when you are satisfied with its performance.. Why change. If someone gets to take out 2500 kms from a mineral and is satisfied there is no reason why he should go for a ss and still do 3000 kms.. Both oils are equally good in engine protection so stay rest assured that no other benefit can be taken from an ss oil except comfortable, smooth ride and gear shifts. Which is being fulfilled by your elf.Originally posted by arjunb25 View Post

No. Paper filters are not meant to be oiled or washed. [Even if its a viscous type filter] Just blow compressed air from the opposite side (cleaner side) and its done.Originally posted by muztariq View Post
Btw, one should replace it early if ridden in dusty conditions.

No , don't even think about thatOriginally posted by muztariq View Postcan we put engine oil in the paper typre air filters present in fz series from yamaha?
www.xbhp.com/talkies/do-yourself/14574-cleaning-air-filter-fz.html
the air filter is supposed to be replaced every 12000 kms on an fz
. But if you wish you can replace the paper element in that filter with a suitably cut foam element (from another bike's foam filter element), and make it reusable in that way . PSR'jee has already done that on his Karizma .
Replace paper element filters at 80% of it's life in Indian conditions .

Try Shell AX7 10w40 semi-synthetic oil. Alternatively, Elf Motogold 20w40 or Gulf Pride 20w40 are also good choices.Originally posted by Samshalu View PostHi guys,,i have a Blaze scooter, have been using Castrol Active & Indian Oil Servo for my scooter till now..so i wanted to know some high performance good engine oil for my scooter...its a165cc engine,4T & grade is 20w40...so guys pls do recommend some good engine oils suitable for my scooter..

BTW, great to see a Blaze owner.

sl is inferior to sm.. But both are active. For bikes jaso is what you should look for. Jaso ma, ma1, ma2 are all interchangeable.Originally posted by murlidhar View Postbtw what is the difference between API SL and API SM ?
also can JASO MA2 be used if the specifications mentions JASO MA ?

Best FS for 2003 Karizma and 2006 CT100
@ Muztariq
what is the best Fully synth engine oil you can recommend for a 2003 Karizma and a 2006 CT-100 .
i want to feed the best engine oil for my two bikes , Also please specify the oil grade (e.g 10w40)
i do long distance travelling every month , 250 kms to and back 250 .
thanksLast edited by octane_fx; 07-19-2012, 06:39 PM.- Truth is stranger than fiction - MC .

ok googling a bit about MA MA2 MA1 and MB i found that MB offers lowest level of friction and is hence not recommended for wet clutches. now MA2 highest level of friction with MA1 is low friction side of MA.
look at page 6 of the pdf.
now the case. in cvt scooters where there is no wet clutch involved JASO MB is better when compared to others ? least friction means piston will freely move.
for bikes i think MA2 is better.
i know for sure the oils are a vast subject by itself but this is what i think about them in layman terms.
please correct me if i am going wrong somewhere.Last edited by murlidhar; 07-19-2012, 02:17 PM.

generally speaking motul or valvoline or gulf are good. but look at the grades recommended by karizma and ct100. and then you can decide from the above mentioned companies.Originally posted by octane_fx View Post@ Muztariq

now comes the practical aspect. you have to try different oils in the same grade and decide for yourself which one is best for yourself cause grade A might be best for a bike and at the same time it can be below par to other bike.
just make sure that while testing these oils the number after w is same ( e.g AwY , BwY , CwY )

Thanks Murli ,
i was under the impression that FS oil for a CT100 may be overkill , Is that true ?
i want to try Shell ultra advance FS first and then Motul 300 V FS for both .
some of them told me to stick to Semi Synth for CT100 .

if one does not have a engine oil lubricated clutch, go straight for the best car engine oils.. Less friction, high mileage, more engine life.Originally posted by murlidhar View Postok googling a bit about MA MA2 MA1 and MB i found that MB offers lowest level of friction and is hence not recommended for wet clutches. now MA2 highest level of friction with MA1 is low friction side of MA.

you are over concerned about your engine oil grade.. A good mineral oil is as protective as a synthetic in normal usage.. On a 100 cc fs are waste of money.Originally posted by octane_fx View PostThanks Murli ,

I remember buying a lot many pens and checking every one and its impact on my hand writing before an exam.. Just wastage of money and time. More of an obsession. The best pen was not the costliest!!
Keeping a good mineral engine oil and changing it regularly is all what you need on both of your bikes.
If you are still obsessed with 'giving it the best engine oil' go for motul 300v 10w40 with both machines you have.. Otherwise after a week on a shell your obsession will still pop up that the 'best engine oil' is still not achieved. Motul 300v is the best bike oil (atleast in India).
Offtopic: Buying the costliest gym equipment doesnt make a man an Arnold or a Sylvester.. Its an obsession which after sometime fades off and the equipment can be found lying untouched at some dirty corner in the house. Hope some guys will agree.Last edited by muztariq; 07-19-2012, 07:40 PM.

you will not find too much of difference in performance in a 100cc engine with fs oils. like i said. nothing wrong in it. experience is much better teacher.Originally posted by octane_fx View PostThanks Murli ,

try it once. personally i think ct100 should be given ss usage. you will most probably use in cities so the engine won't get too hot too soon.
regarding karizma which i believe you are taking it only in weekends a fs is fine with it. every six months you have to invest for an fs oil. which i think will come to be more efficient than mineral oils.

My friend is using Motul 300V 10w40 on his CT100. It's been 4 months since he changed the Oil and the CT100 is still smooth even after 5000kms.i was under the impression that FS oil for a CT100 may be overkill , Is that true ?

If you are looking to fill the oil and forget about it; go for synthetics.
