As the kms adds up with years , so does the internal tolerances and gaps in the engine owing to normal wear. So with engines run for high mileages a heavier base oil like 20w40 is more suitable . Your's is just midway . So if you are curious , you can try a good 10w30 oil like the HeroHonda 4T . Even more interesting is the new synthetic Gulf Synth 4T 10w30 going for just 300 Rs for 900ml bottle .
But , but ... do keep an strict weekly eye on your oil level on the dipstick .. and top up as needed . I think you'll do fine .

Read experiences of ppl using FS oils.. all have to say that oil started to become dark brown after around 2000 kms and was working fine till 4000-5000 kms. Oil becoming very dark in less than 500 kms on a fairly young bike is oil issue/clearance issue. The same bike will not show similar oil darkening in FS oils.

All oil (used in petrol engines) comes with 0.5-2% dispersants. FS oil contain more dispersants. Mineral turns black sooner but FS doesnt.
at 500km oil just starts to change its colour towards light brown its not dark at all. And at 1000kms oil drop on dip stick end is not dark black. But dark enough to call black, its kind of 'light black'
and one particular oil retained its red colour till 1.2k kms and when i changed it at ~2100kms its colour was red-ish-brown.
P.S. Its all about mineral & SS oils have never used FS in my bike

          Hi,
I bought Pulsar 200 NS. The recommended oil by company is Bajaj DTS-I 10000 [Grade : 20W50 API 'SL' or JASO 'MA'].
I got my first service at 451 kms. They used Bajaj engine oil.

But some how I seriously doubt the quality and durability of this oil. So, I was thinking of getting my oil changed at 1500 kms. And then go for 2nd service at 2500 km and then the oil will be changed again. Will this process be good for the vehicle ?

I want to know, Which Engine oil should I use @1500 and @2500 kms ?

This is what I'm thinking, I guess
@1500 km - Same Bajaj Engine Oil [as it will last 1000 km or so.]
@2500 km - Fully Synthetic Engine Oil [ Please advice which one? ]
Even I wanted to use Motul engine oil but the service center personnel kept repeating that it will void the warranty if the bike is under warranty. If you are going to use a different brand of oil then it will void the warranty. I confirmed this from Bajaj and they mentioned if you are ok without the warranty then you can use any brand of engine oil for your bike.

          • I recently filled Shell Advanced Ultra 10W40 FS oil in my RTR 180 ABS(recommended is TVS TRU 10W30 SS) ,the odo reading was 12.2k km during the change..Now at 14k km the engine oil leaks from the cylinder head, what could be the problem..?? I visited service center & got all the bolts tightened & the mechanic is sure that the gasket is fine. But the oil leak continues..I & the Mechanic(s) are unable to identify the source of the leak..What should be my next step to stop the leak..?

            • Some say it happens in bajaj and tvs bikes, I'm also using fs motul 300v 15w50, so far so good. Let's see what happens..

                    • Mobil Delvac 1300

Sometime back I posted pics of Mobil Delvac Super 1300 15w40 which is a diesel engine oil but used extensively on wet clutch bikes like ours around the world.

Today I got the opportunity to put this oil in my Fazer 153.. Here is the one line review -

Best Pure Mineral oil I have ever used.

Would suggest it to anyone using w40 grade oil... I got 5 liters for 1300 Rs. i.e 260 rs / liter.

The oil is API SJ approved.. Looking at the smoothness this oil has, it may have some friction reducers.. but not a big amount.

This oil is a Group II oil. In this price, getting a Group II oil from Mobil is a decent deal!!

Here are the pics of the oil.

                      • Its not an oil for bikes.. Bike oil should be JASO MA certified / approved.

                          Not necessarily..

(this last one is quite a good explanation of using heavy duty diesel engine oil in bikes)

I am not the only one using this oil in this big world! Looking at the quality and price factor.. I would love to continue using it forever.. I would say much better oil than Yamalube 20W40, Castrol (all grades), Servo 4T, Hero Honda 4T SVC oil, Mobil super 4T etc. etc. Though lesser than Shell Ultra (FS). But comparing a pure mineral with FS is unjustified.

                          • Thanks for info buddy. But I am a "why take chances" kind of a guy. When there are specific oils available then why use others. Thats my personal point. Because I personally have experienced clutch slip when used car engine oil in my previous bike. Its a personal choice though.

                            • Fellow XBHpians, Please suggest 20w50 Mineral oil for Duke.
The bike by default comes with SS bajaj 10000 DTSI oil, which i changed at 65 km at ODO to again bajaj 10000 DTSI oil and SVC guys had just this and fully synthetic motul 7100 oil .

I have been suggested to use mineral oil for Running in instead of Semi Synthetic as suggested in KTM's user manual

Hence please usggest me a 20w50 mineral oil and also its online availability so that i can order it online .

Your quick replies in this matter will be appreciated as after reading several post on internet i can not seem to find any online source for the oil as well a good suggestion for Duke

i have read about these oils but can not find them online

                              MOTUL 3000 4T 20W50 mineral oil

Shell Helix 20W50 most probably mineral oil need to be sure!

                              Comment

                              • Again my personal opinion is not to go for shell helix since its a car oil. Motul 3000 is the best bet in mineral oils.
