Never mix SS & FS oils even though they happen to have same number (15w50 etc). Their chemical properties are completely different and Motul FS is double ester where as the SS are technosynth. I might not give molecule level explanation however, to my year of understanding is that, Mineral, SS and FS oils are classified on their chemical properties present.

Amit- Don't even think about doing on your bike. You can change the oil completely and run but don't mix them (only on the rocks!).

Since your bike has run decent distance, and if you are keen on shifting to synth's, then the best option would be to go for SS first 5K Kms and based on your feel you can upgrade to FS. FS/SS are good when it comes to city conditions.
I asked them they said don't use any other oil just stick with Honda Miniral

if i switch to SS or FS oil what are the pro or cons of doing so
my usage is 80% city mumbai traffic conditions

            Umesh.
I had owned Unicorn '05 model and sold it recently. Coming to your point. I don't see any harm in using stock (Honda) oil for your bike. However, the life of the oil always depends on riding style and environment. For example:- If the riding always been in predominantly in higher RPMs, then the life comes down. Also, riding in city conditions would involve, frequent gear shifts and speed. So this also contribute to early wear of the engine oil.

You may shift to Semi-Synthetic oil (SS) and there are many in the offing from Shell, Motul, etc. I have used Fully Synthetic(FS) and Semi Synthetic in my bike. Both have performed exceptionally well during long rides. The oil change interval is slightly longer than mineral.

I would recommend you first try SS and see the difference. I'm sure you'll love the smoothness and reduction in engine vibes. Don't go by number of kms for the oil change. Oh yes! you'll need to regularly check the oil level and it's color. It should not turn dark.

Some of the recommendations which have already tried and tested on Unicorn:-

            Motul 5100 (SS oil) - 5w40, 15w50
            Motul 300v - 5w40, 15w50
            Petronas (FS) 5w15
            Shell FS - 5w40

ROTELLA NEWS: Will I Harm My Engine By Mixing Synthetic Oil and Mineral Oil?

              Valvoline.com > FAQs > Motor Oil Car FAQs > Full-Synthetic Motor Oil

There is a lot of useful info in Valvoline's FAQ..

A synthetic oil contains more uniform smaller particles of oil ,and hence will leak past worn or ill fitted , or old oil seals, and gaskets.....With heat when parts of an engine expand , the resultant gap will allow Synthetic oil to flow through , causing oil leak and oil consumption in engine.
A mineral oil contains Base stock with Wax which helps to seal and not allow this to happen...

the 5100 is a good oil but does not even last for 2k kms. i have used the 5100 for 6k kms and each time the mech said that the oil was gone, even after just 1.8k kms...

as for the 300v, i fell the price is too much. i felt the moto4xt tech FS 10W50 much better than the 300v and the price is arnd 650/-,that oil if topped up when required can be pushed to 3.5~4k kms. as for the 7100,it is meant for the thumpers (as illustrated on the bottle),i guess it can also be used for any othe rbike, but i returned that bottle and went back to moto 4xt tech.

Try a thicker oil like 20 w 40 or 50...RTR is a rev friendly bike, Air cooled,....and also generates heat....On long drives with sustained higher RPM there are many reported cases of engine oil being consumed leading to engine seizure.

Dont jump! Complete atleast 6000km on the odo before you can think of SS or FS oils.

FYI.. It is recommended that Mineral oils be used for 5-6k kms so that engine is set properly as there are many moving parts which mineral oils would actually act cooler than SS and FS.
