    • Hello all, my knowledge about helmets isn't much hence this query.
What is the difference between 2-3 grands priced helmets and the ones we get in malls (Big bazaar, Star bazaar etc) for 600-700 bucks, which I currently use.
I am asking this because I plan to upgrade my helmet because of these two reasons:
      1) It gets very hot during slow moving traffic and I sweat like anything, my hair becomes all wet like I just came out from a bath
      2) During night time I get lot of glare from opposite traffic. The lights appear like bright rays, but it appears normal if I slide the visor up. May be its because of the scratches on the visor.

Will a high quality, more expensive helmet solve these issues for me?
If yes, then please suggest me some nice options that will go well with my Lava Red FZ16. I am OK with 3-4K price range.

      Thanks

Stanley, most of the cheapo helmets u see in the malls are Indian Makes and aren't ISI approved unlike (Studds, Vega, Steelbird and now Aaron). The more expensive and good quality helmet you buy, the better it will help u to keep your head safe. With a budget of 3-4k you can get plenty VFM helmets like the LS2, Cross and even SOL (only 1 model in that budget). You can even manage to buy a Cross with the Pump in that given money. Remember, you can't trust your head and life on a brand that ain't trusted by the Testing Authorities itself! I suggest you try out AH Helmets and AA Helmets at Andheri if u live anywhere close by that area.

Hey! Nice lid! Did you check stitched ECE mark on the straps of the helmet?

Thanks, will checkout the shops you have mentioned.
But will the helmets mentioned above perform better in these areas:
              1) It gets very hot during slow moving traffic and I sweat like anything, my hair becomes all wet like I just came out from a bath*
              2) During night time I get lot of glare from opposite traffic. The lights appear like bright rays, but it appears normal if I slide the visor up. May be its because of the scratches on the visor.

Will be very grateful if you shed some light on it if you can.

              Thanks.

No there is no ECE mark on the straps, just a sticker of ECE at backside and only some numbers written on the strap as you can see in the pictures (Fourth Picture from left). Now that's my only concern that there is no embedded mark of ECE on the helmet, so can't make it if the helmet is genuine or not.

A good quality visor will obvsly help u see better in dark with much or nil glares from the incoming traffic. Some of the mentioned helmets Like the Vega Boolean and any LS2 makes are equipped with ventilators on top and mouth area and trust me it does a decent job to keep u cool when u r on u r move. But because of the Humid Mumbai climate we cannot actually do much about the heat when stuck up in a traffic. Its just that U can slide up the Visor when in Traffic to let more air in and rock it back down when cruising again.

Just my personal thought though. I know someone with more experience can help u better.

Here is a look at my LS2 strap with the ECE marking. Is it the same that you got or is it any different? Post a similar photo to help us see better.

Thanks so much, that helps a lot. Currently SOL has my fancy, but confused between SF-1 Acme Red and SL-68S Dragon Black Red models.
The website says AH helmets as their authorised resellers, so will visit them and check it out. Will most probably buy after this month's salary as already spent a hefty amount on my HID mod this month

                    • My new Airoh Speed Fire Race Red..
                      The story-
I instantly fell in love with the graphics, its vents, the mercury visor and the glossy finish to name a few,so much so that I found myself having bought the Vega LS2 Dragon lid without even checking its size.It was a whopping 2 sizes bigger for me so had to wear a balaclava or a kerchief every damn time I rode..!Moreover, it had a fall, which broke the attachment of the vent with the shell. This directly exposed the structure lying beneath the shell, appearing as if I broke a chunk of the shell.I was sad, knew that I have to get a another helmet soon.Days passed by and I started researching.Didnt have a rigid budget limit, but a helmet within the range of 10,000Rs seemed okay given that my income is nil as I am a student. So, had the KBC range, the Sparx Paw and the Airoh Speed Fire helmets on the list. The Airoh was instantly available, so went for it.

                      Fit-
Fits nice and snug, though moves a bit only when the head is shaken.A balaclava ensures a tight fit.Atleast, the need to torture handkerchiefs and to summon the balaclava for running a short errand is eliminated! The padding is copious, cheek padding is comfortable too.Weighs only 1300 gm.

                      Fit,finish and style-
Extremely well done. The graphics do not appear to have 'stickered' on to the helmet. They just feel so natural.Has a thermoplastic external shell. The visor is quite clear, it can be mistaken many a times to be open.Though my LS2 dragon looked quite wicked, this helmet too looks rather fetching.Turns heads for sure.Red and black color sceme gels nice with my jacket and my bike. Now to get a opaque visor, which I am quite a big fan of.It makes me look like a masked superhero..

                      Fogging-
Though I got the helmet well after the monsoons,I feel that fogging will be minimal.Sitting without motion doesnt produce mist of the exhaled air.It has two hidden sort of vents, one beneath the visor and the other one above it.They seem to work well and fine.

                      Noise-
Avoids all the unwanted noise, leaving you enjoying the symphony of the engine of your motorcycle. You realise this the moment the visor is opened and when all the harsh noise rushes in.

                      Safety rating[s]-
Has a 4 Star SHARP rating, meets or exceeds ECE 22.05 safety standards. Also, it feels much stiff than the old lid, while keeping it on a solid surface.

                      Price-
Rs 7800.Quite a deal if you ask me..
                      Some more pics.
Nasik sees me like this most of the times..

Haha! SOL are indeed everyone's fantasy these days! I spent a hefty amount buying my Bike this month and SOL was so out of my budget after that . SF-1 Acme Red is a very popular model by the SOL and looks really good. Haven't seen the SL-68S in person so can't comment on that yet. I didn't want to use my old (Studds Ninja Half Face) helmet with the new bike so I bought the LS2. If you don't have any urgency you can very well wait and get the EPIC VFM SOL lids!

                        • Oh, boy, saw the SOL metal man series helmet the other day with a friend who had just bought it, i must say it was not impressive in the pics i had seen online and had wondered what was so great in it , that everyone saw it, when i saw it in flesh, i fell for it. It was uber kool.
But i did have another doubt, so many vents , doesnt it hamper the integrity or rigidnes of the helmet and the open close snaps for the vents on top seemed a bit mmmm...lets say fragile.
Dint try it on. But apart from that , its one sexy looking helmet.

                          Cheers

                            • Hi All,

I was planning to buy helmet and read many reviews of different helmets, then today i went to Karolbagh at Chopras to select one, my first impression of the person there is that he is a very generous person, i looked different helmet of Brand LS2, Cross etc, then finally i looked the YOHE Helmet which has dual Visor and graphics looks very cool, the helmet seems study and build quality and interiors are much better than LS2 and Cross, and LS2 was only available with tinted visor instead of plain visor, finally after carefully looking i selected the YOHE helmet, it is some Chinese brand but quality is really good, below is the link of the helmet which i bought.
                              YOHE HELMET MANUFACTUREING CO.LTD

You must be thinking about it price, initially he quoted me 4500 for this but after trying my negotiation skills he agreed on 4200. This helmet comes with very good sleeve for protection.

Along with this i also bought a pair of pro biker gloves.
