Guys I got a little doubt. I have been thinking of getting my lid painted, read up couple of DIY's but no where did I find any mention by anyone as to the doubt I got.
Well so my doubt is: to repaint ones helmet, the current paint is removed using emery paper, does the use of emery in removing a layer of the helmet, compromise the helmets safety?

Glad to know that your helmet is not affected in hotspots, but even then, structural integrity is always a matter debate especially if the helmet has taken a blow. That being said, it's not a problem to use the helmet, since I can suffice from the pictures that the helmet has taken side beating pretty well. But hey, spending another 8k for a helmet is a nightmare altogether and I understand the sentiment. But for time being, I guess it can be used, but the sooner you get yourself a newer helmet, the better off you'll be.

PlanetDSG. PlanetDSG : Motorcycle Riding Gear, Accessories, Apparel and... Beware there are lots of fake Alpinestars that are out there. Make sure you get the right stuff, from the right vendor, even though paying a little extra. Numerous cases have been registered where people have been fooled into getting themselves a genuine A* but indeed they were counterfeit products of the pilot.

Aftermarket helmet paints such as paints used in common household stuff is a big no-no to helmets. Water-based paints specifically designed for helmets are out there for helmet hotrods. One should not use the paints that sold off-the-shelf in most stores out there, they are acidic and they can/might/will corrode the compromise the shell of the helmet. Consider hotrodding only if you're sure about the paint used and the reputation of the guy who does the job.

Never paint the helmet unless you have *fan base* who cheer up each time you ride, I hope you got the moot-point.

Cheers!

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
The girl said, 'NO!'

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

Well thanks a lot, that did help a lot. I had a look at water based paints and if I am to go ahead with idea would definitely only consider them.

The only reason I want to paint it is, I find its current state too flashy and I want to go for a pure black matte finish. One might ask why pick up a flashy one in the first place, the reason is lack of choice, urgency and perfect fit.

I am very much against the idea of tampering with the helmet in any manner but just wanted to know my options. Wonder if matte black vinyls could do the job

I like the first two. They have nice ventilation as per reviews. But I have read in a review that they are not very aerodynamic and a bit shaky at high speeds. Please provide me first hand reviews if someone has or is using these. Don't know much about the third and the fourth one.

Will be buying from Delhi, any suggestions would be helpful.

I use a SOL 68S and have done 120km/h constantly. Owing to the multiple vents, wind noise is noticeable (but bearable) but have had no stability issues, thanks to its snug fit on me.

Matte stickering or for that matter stickering in general is not a bad idea, but make sure the sticker isn't with any air bubbles as such, because I've seen guys stick stickers on their helmets and getting peeled a week after or air bubbles in the sticker job, which reflects a clumsy sticker job, and removing it is a real pain in the arse. So make sure you take all these into consideration.

Just so you get the point, the helmet, shell, all the goodies that go into all the helmets you've posted above or ditto, except the LED in the 68S and no LED offered in the 68SII and all are off different colors. So basically you're saying the first two color scheme of the same helmet is good and the latter scheme is not known by you. I hope you're under any medication.

But 68S and SII are both good helmets, basically the same stuff with an added LED which serves as a *safety feature*. No helmet is 100% *noise proof*, or aerodymamically perfect. Apart from buzzing noise above 80 KMPH, I've felt in both the SOLs both the helmets are real good at at an affordable price.

Cheers!

Here are the features for these helmets as per their website:

1. SL 68S
SPC Full Face Motorcycle Helmet

.19 vents. 9 intake vents and 10 large exhaust vents to get the hot air out. Max air flow is
achieved through shell/styro comfort liner vents.
2. SL 68s II

SOL Helmets continues the success of the 68s with the new 68s II!
A Premium helmet with features and functions not found on more expensive helmets!

.18 vents 10 intake vents and 8 exhaust vents to get the hot air out. Max air flow is
achieved through shell/styro comfort liner vents.

You can see the difference in the number of vents.

If you see them carefully enough, you can see the difference in the shape of the vents in the front portion. Thats what concerns me for the SL 68S. Somebody had mentioned that its shaky past 100km/h.

My medication is working bro, I hope your does too.

Cheers!

You didn't read my post clearly. The difference is just a vent or more on both the models, as they do not affect the performance much. I've personally liked the 68SII for it being a little ligher than the 68S. Both of them whistle post 80 KMPH and the 68S does whisle a tad more, but not very significant to be concerned though. But that's almost inherent in most helmets out there. Again, it's like asking what's the difference between a Maruti 800 and Maruti 800 5 speed, got the moot point!

These points are from what I've experienced trying both the helmets. Remember riding position can induce or decrease the given noise, *shakiness* as you've pointed out. Crouching helps to an extent, upright riding position will induce sideward wind jitter, wind induced noise, booms etc.

Cheers!

SDS17, I use the the SOL Dragon, personally I was interested in the sf1 (the inner sun shade visor appealed to me) but lack of availability and my urgent need gave me no option other than the Dragon, and except for the flashy nature of the helmet I got no issues with it.

I just used the very same helmet on a 2.3k kms tour and I found no major issue with it , there is a whistling noise post 80kmph but its very manageable. Very stable at high speeds too. I did an entire 65km stretch at 120-124 without any trouble. The ventilation is superb, not once did I feel suffocated.

Do let me know if there is any other specific thing that you would like to know, would be glad to assist

@SDS17 ............. you can use ear buds to manage whistling noise ........ I guess they are avlb from SPG at an affordable price of 90/-
