I've the same question. Whether to go for octane or jetstream since the price difference is negligible.

I searched the forum and found your post asking the difference between the two but nobody answering the post.

    Do let me know.
Tell you what, different people have different views of jackets. As they say when you buy a bike or related gear, go by your instinct and not by word-of-mouth, trust me it works out just fine.

Firstly there is tons of gear brands out there, so all of them, do one thing in common and that is to confuse us, consumers

Now regarding Octane or Jetstream, considering Jetstream is just a few hundred bucks more than the Octane, I'd say go for the Octane. Being owning myself for a pretty good time, it's held up remarkably well. And ventilation, oh man, crazy ventilation, I guess far better than the Jetstream. As I previously noted in another comment for a fellow xBhp member, if you observe closely, Octane is a 80% mesh jacket, compared to Jetsream and it is basically to offer adequate protection and good ventilation and the jacket does it spot on.

Now, Jetstream on the other hand too is a mesh one, but has the textile component to it significantly, so I guess it won't be that much comfortable as Octane, though both have the same removable liner.

Now the CE component, give or take most brands out there, offer back CE protectors only as an aftermarket accessory, unlike some very less foreign brands which offer them as standard, but then 90% of the time, it's an accessory (CE approved back armor that is). The Octane and Jetstream don't come with CE approved back protectors, just a plain foam pad, like most brands and the company website have entered it wrongly as a CE approved. Only elbow and shoulder are CE certified, not the back protectors.

So to sum it up, I'd suggest go for the Octane, good jacket, can save you from most downpours and gets you home safe and sound

    Hope this helps!

    Cheers!

Small threads from the stitching keep poping out (there have been many so far) and the push button for the adjustment in the arms are too weak. It almost came off when i tried to open it and so i stopped messing with it. I immediately told Zulfi about it but all he said was to cut the threads when they pop and get a velcro stitched in place of the button. i dont know if its normal with the Octane. Guys using it may put some light? Is the 'Made in China' tag now responsible for it?? Other than these small niggles, the jacket feels absolutely comfortable to wear on an all day ride even in this hot weather.
Yup I faced the same issue regarding popping threads .. Had this feeling in the back of my mind that it would have been worth spending 2K more and getting the Phenoix from Joe Rocket. I assume the quality would be far better.

      • Jacket confusion

        Dear All,
I'm planning to buy a riding jacket & riding pants for myself & my wife. My usage would be for touring purpose as well as city rides.
I've shortlisted a few, but am not able to make-up my mind. Can you guys help me with it?

The list is as follows :-
        for myself
        1) Rjays octane with Rjays all season pants.
        2) Joe Rocket Pheonix 5.0 with Pheonix pants 3.0
        3) Joe Rocket Atomic 4.0 with Atomic pants
        for my wife
        1) Rjays Swift with Rjays all season pants
        2) Joe Rocket Cleo with Cleo pants

I liked the JR Alterego, but again it costs as good as double than the ones I've selected.

If there is any other option which I'm missing out, then please let me know.

        Thanks in advance

I've been owning the Octane for close to year now, regular washes in washing machine, I do it my way, never see the tags on how to wash and stuff, so far the jacket has held up remarkably well. Regarding the threads, it's just the excess from the threading and stitching that's gone into the jacket. I've known a friend who had a renowned brand jacket, and it's stitch was even worse.

Now I'm not brand-praising RJays, in any way. Even I see, some excess threads that are there unnecessarily, I've cut some myself many a times, but haven't had an instance where a buckle or a button is ripped! RJays are a gamble, sometimes you get good ones, sometimes you don't, can't help it though!

Honestly I love the service offered by Zulfi, but then when it comes to after-market, he gets a real thumbs down, he just bluntly says, to take care of stuffs ourselves, and to top it, no warranty whatsoever, unless something big the size of @#$#

          Cheers!!

Real good to know people equally caring for their wives +1 for that

            For you!

Indeed, both Octane and RJays all season pants are fantastic for summer and winter (considerably for Octane). Both come with removable liners, and superb ventillation, liner removed especially you get phenomenal air flow around, which can keep you going on and on and on, all day. With liner on, it gets pretty heated up for both pant and the jacket, but gives considerable cooling effect on the move.

But I'd strongly suggest, in summer to remove the lining off the pant, cos it gets real sweaty in the pant with liner on, liner removed, it's just a bliss to wear the pant, superb airflow, and you always feel secured with this pant.

            For your better half!

RJays Swift, one of my buddies owning one for his wife, is a cheap and best all rounder jacket, considering if your wife is only a pillion, it just adds more than adequate protection coupled with the RJays AS Pants as I mentioned above. In all, RJays is a good VFM money product.

If you spend some more, you can go for the JR stuff, I can't comment on JR since I've not had much chance to deal with JR stuff, only occasionally here and there, maybe others who are on JR can comment on this one. But one of the best you can get at, lesser than the price range of RJays.

And don't forget to buy a good helmet for her

            Cheers!

              Thanks VJ

The helmets & gloves are already been bought. For the shoes, I'm buying Orazo for my wife & Axo for myself. The only confusion was jackets. But I guess as you say Rjays is VFM, so probably would go in for it.

                  • Hi everyone , i am reviving an old thread. I will be off to leh in may end. So i was planning to get some ankle length boots. My budget is Rs 2000 and cannot exceed a rupee ( student you see ). I saw the orazo boots but they are above my budget. Do i have any other option. I have also heard about some boots ( or army boots ) which cost around Rs 1000 - 1200 and are good enough for riding and comfort. Please let me know what can i go for.

Lastly , i will be in delhi from the 11th of april till the 16th, so was planning to buy the boots in that period itself. Please let me know if there are any places in delhi where i can buy them.

                    Thanks

You can go to the Army Cantt area (after Dhaula Kuan - towards Kirti Nagar) ask any defense person way to market, you can check some boots there. As per my knowledge the cheap ones are not water proof.
