OK. Actuallt whenever you reply, you reply without quoting the comment for which you are replying so I/anyone has to keep an eye on this thread and keep checking as we do not get notification in through the control panel or email

Had to part with it due to unavoidable circumstances. Bought the CL 500 in Dec 2011, clocked 25K till Dec 2012. I think it was sometime during Jan this year i noticed the fuel pipe with cracks, replaced the fuel pipe. Within a days time the crank pin broke, since i had already exceeded 10K kms warranty on the bike had expired. Fixed the issue and sold it. Moved on from REs and bought Duke 200. During these 10 months relationship with the 200 I have thoroughly enjoyed the riding experience - good, bad as well as ugly. Purpose of shortlisting the Standard 500 - 1) retro looks2) carb 3) rider and pillion seating comfortI can live with the small niggles, the FE, weight, braking etc etc. I have a few questions;1) can the rear wheel be changed from 18 inch to 19 inch, is it a direct fit or should there be any modifications done to the swing-arm in order to fit the 19 inch? 2) rear tail lamp, would like to know if it can be swapped to the one on Standard 350. RE has thrown the classic rear tail lamp assembly on the Standard 500. I personally don't like it.I will be visiting the showroom sometime today and book it, wish me luck Cheers!!

hey ronit, i have had mixed bag experience with the D200. i had to unlearn the riding experience that i had gained riding the REs and learn riding again with baby duke.

Few things that i would like to point out:

            Things that i like:
            1) handling of this bike is excellent, its lite and nimble. cutting through traffic is easy.
            2) it has power, raw power, you can redline in each gear.
            3) brakes are good, i wish they come with ABS as stock (i did check with the service guys and was told that it would cost 26k to have ABS installed on the 200)
            4) the MRF tyres are good, they stick well but are prone to punctures (had to replace my rear tyre since a file cut through the shoulders and there was nothing much that could have been done except for replacing it)
            5) riding seat - some how i like the rider seat, although it isn't as soft as the REs, i feel it is not too hard. I have enjoyed it both in the city as well as the highway.
            6) service - i have had a positive experience with the service till now.

Things that i think could have been better:
            1) fuel tank - i wish KTM/Bajaj does something and bring in a bigger fuel tank. IMO the 9ltr tank isn't big enough, however i manage to get 300 kms on every full tank.
            2) lights - the front head light isn't powerful, the view is of very short distance both low and high beam (i don't have the numbers yet, will post up soon).
            3) horn - reminds of the road runner "beep beep" .
            4) fuel lock cap - this things makes noise, although it doesn't annoy me but this is something i don't like.
            5) gear shifting - this bikes needs constant gear shift. i am able to cruise at 40kmph on 6th gear at the same time touch 3 digit figures. i don't if this is a boon or a cruse.

overall i am satisfied with the bike. hope this helps you in making up your mind to buy this bike. this bike may stay or i may upgrade to its elder brother 390 in the near future. buying the RE coz i miss the long single .

            Cheers & all the best!

Thank you Ronit!! Happy Diwali to you too!! putting myself into your shoe, i would pick the 390 over the 200. IMO moving from the 220 to the 200 would just be a change. my experience with bajaj is very limited. coming to the durability and running expense, i bought the bike in Jan and have clocked over 15K kms, here's the list for your reference:

                1) dropped the bike 4 times - had to change the handle bar each time, cost around 1.3k for each replacement. its a one piece handle bar and i don't think removing the bend would help handling. each time i had to change the crash guard too. crash guard cost Rs.200 (one side).
                2) rear tyre change - i think i had clocked 8.3k on the bike a file pierced through the centre section of the rear tyre and came out via the left shoulder, had to change it since repair work wouldn't help. also note that these are medium to soft compound tyres, would last 14-16k kms. I will be changing the front tyre short, should be around 3-3.5k and the rear tyre replacement cost me 3.8k. I opted for the stock mrf tyres. now the metz are available, however they cost a bomb.
                3) clutch cable - clutch cable gave up at 10k kms, changed it at the service centre, i think it cost around Rs.400.
                4) front disk plate - i once hit an auto rickshaw (my stupidity ), bike took the beating. i had jammed the front brakes very hard to evade the accident but to no vain, service guys told me that the plate can be used for a little while, however i decided to change. cost of the disk plate 1.5k.
                5) radiator fan - at 15k kms the radiator fan went kaput, thankfully the warranty covered it.
                6) other consumables - i have been using synthetic oil, oil change cost 1.8k since the service intervals are in the range of 6k kms after the 1st service i think it is justifiable for using the synthetic oil. during the radiator fan change, i changed the coolant too, cost me Rs.390. an idiot cabby had hit my bike while i had parked it in office, the RHS rear view mirror broke, cost Rs. 250 for replacement.

there are 3 free service coupons that comes with bike, i don't have the exact break up of the free service cost, however each one cost me close 2.3k, oil, oil filter change, chain cleaning and lube, bike wash etc. i am getting ready for the 1st paid service should be sometime soon, i'll get the exact breakup then.

how about waiting for the Triumph, they should be here in 25 days..

                Cheers!!

Sure, I booked the Forest Green Standard 500 at Sai Ram Auto Craft on ORR, paid 5k for booking. While i was on the service road riding toward the showroom, noticed a GT in the opposite direction. Upon checking, i was told that the GT will be launched end of this month. No info on the price yet.

I have been told 3 to 4 months waiting period for the Standard 500, the wait beings...

                    Cheers!!

I just hope this determination stays with me during this waiting period. I always wanted to own the CI and Mach 500. The CI is a completely different machine when compared to the UCE 500's. I was neither sad nor happy with the CL500 due to quality issues. The fuse went kaput after 6k kms, then the fuel pipe issues, later the crank pin broken. I don't know what other challenges i would have had to face if i continued to own it. I took good care of the bike, serviced it every 3k kms (oil change, oil filter change, extensive check up of all electricals etc..).

I have heard people say Standard 500 is the best that RE has launched in the recent years, however keeping my fingers crossed .

                              Cheers!!

I seriously feel when it comes to RE you can't put a bet and one good reason for that is inconsistency, a good percentage of the body is still hand made and there is always chance of same two bikes being not the same. Like in my case, touch wood I have not faced any issues at all but at the same time many classic owners are complaining as well for small niggling issues. Whatever but one thing for sure RE has to induce a strong, really strong quality control and make sure all the same model bikes are consistently same. High time.
