Oil,oil filter, air filter, breather pipe, petrol lock, gear springs, gear oil, speedometer wire/drive were changed. A missing taillight was fixed,a side-indicator was replaced and it was as good as new. Oh yeah a new seat cover too. Total cost incurred was 2700;1500 for the parts,500 for labour,400 for seat cover and 300 for wash and polish.
Rode to the office. The thump is old variety. Not too loud to irritate and not too muted like the newer models

Great. Well even the new ones sound really well just after the change of super restrictive stock silencer. Just s regular short bottle would do the deal, anyways. Hey buddy show a pic at least

gyan_recl350 and others... after a lot of wait I am finally for it. I have paid advance today and taking delivery of a 2005 Electra tomorrow. The price is 65k. 2nd owner and all papers intact.

1. I need technical specs of 2005 Electra?
2. How much does a electric starter motor cost? The guy said solenoid is working. When he pressed the switch there was a clicking noise. Battery is good.
3. What is a decomp switch that I saw?
4. The guy adviced me to get the tappets and rocker arms serviced. What could be the damage?

Bulleteers, appreciate your views. All pointers would really help. My family is more excited than I am. After a long time my dream is coming out real.....:thumbup:

First of all million congrats buddy and welcome to the family. So is it 4 speed or 5 speed? (I guess 4s). Left side gear or right side gear?.

Well below are my inputs:

1. I need technical specs of 2005 Electra?
See the below links. If you think model is not chosen correctly then choose from the options:

Royal Enfield Electra 4S Technical Specifications

:: Royal Enfield Workshop Manual-I ::

:: Welcome Enfield Bullet (350 CC & 500 CC) Workshop Manual ::

2. How much does a electric starter motor cost? The guy said solenoid is working. When he pressed the switch there was a clicking noise. Battery is good.
No idea

3. What is a decomp switch that I saw?
That must be the manual decompress-or. Nowadays the Bullet comes with automatic decompress-or.

4. The guy adviced me to get the tappets and rocker arms serviced. What could be the damage?
Well probably he was referring to get them adjusted as the older Bullets used to come with solid tappets which comes loose over the period of time and need to get adjusted/set. Due to the solid tappets in older Bullets the valve lifting would not be ever consistent, so the owner might have been referring to get the checked/adjusted.

Please post a pic, would love to see the beauty and do keep us updated

Cheers!!

Thanks a lot mate. It is a 5-speed and left side gear. BTW, is this AVL or CI?

I guess this should be an hour's job. I thought it might need replacement. Relieved now.

Sure. I do not have pics at the moment. Just few more hours of waiting and I.....

AVL engines came only with older Thunderbirds. Electras came with CI and now all the RE models have UCE.

Your are welcome buddy and do post the pic. Yes imagine how painful it is to wait for months and months.

OK so yours is Cast iron Electra 5s. Also do let us know what does it "THUMP" . BTW how much on odo?

Decomp switch is to decompress the cylinder... The way to gauge it is to see if your battery meter reads positive or negative... If its negative apply the decop switch and slowly press the kick lever down till the battery meter shows neutral... only after that do you kick the kicker to start the vehicle... manually.

I am giving a spa treatment for the bike now. Pics coming up soon....
Ah... the thump is so loud, especially upon revving. But I guess it is too loud. What is the OEM exhaust of a CI electra?
The odo reads 7849kms. Maybe they reset the meter after the rebuild.

Thank you Vykier. But the ammeter on mine has never read negative or positive. It just fluctuates. Is that normal?
However I press the decomp switch, pump slowly for 2 times and kick slowly after releasing the switch. It starts but I need to practice more

That is the greatest fun one can have on bullets.

May be the exhaust is tampered with, to make that loud sound. Bullets are never annoyingly loud with the factory fitted exhaust. Its really disheartening to see people tampering with the exhausts for increasing the performance and for the loud note and ripping on the streets. The real fun is to ride it in leisurely pace.

You mean when you turn the ignition on and pump the kicker holding the decomp it fluctuates to both positive and negative? If so, you're over-doing the pumping just a tad bit (dont do it 2 times)... press the kicker holding the decomp for just about half a kick (you don't necessarily need to depress the kicker fully, depress it half, slowly until the pointer in ammeter shows neutral) release the kicker, release the decomp and give it a proper full kick...

I'm pretty sure you'll get the hang of it in a jiffy... its fun.

The ammeter is neutral irrespective whether ignition is on/off or even while using decomp. It fluctuates a little only when I use horn.

Any idea on OE exhaust for a CI Electra? Any pictures somebody?
