Re: Choosing a Royal Enfield? Ask here...
Is it true that CI engines cannot be driven continuously... say like for an hour or more??
I hear a clanking noise from the bottom left side of engine at idle. No noticeable clanking while driving though...
Can the tappets adjustment be a DIY? I called up an Enfield service center and they openly said they do not have mechanics for Old bullets. Still they would a week's time to do a general service.
Is there a way to arrest oil leaks at all?
Apart from the above I have identified that the fork needs tightening or cone replacement. Fork oil replacement along with other fluid replacement. Wiring to be corrected-the pass switch is connected to high beam indicator and high beam seems to something else. Starter motor reconditioning as I just get clicking sound when using it. Rust treatment and finally an OEM exhaust or add glass wool to existing one. Considering to change side stand to avenger ones and chromed mud guards. I am not sure how many of it will be done immediately though.

Getting angry at somebody is the same as getting angry with a bike that just won't go. You should stop and start thinking.
A good mechanic will let you watch even without charging you for it. |
It is funny to know that we've been imitated and copied so well and surprising when we notice our mistakes are copied as well.

Its not that it cannot be ridden continuously. CI engines are not rev-friendly and needs to be taken gently. They are also very notorious for breaking down all of a sudden for no reason.Originally posted by petrolhead_chn View PostIs it true that CI engines cannot be driven continuously... say like for an hour or more??
Tappet adjustment can be a DIY, I remember seeing a video on You tube. Will try to find it and will post a link.
edit: here You go, a beautiful explanation on how to start a bullethttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=41igYhb_XDg
I am not able to find the link for the tappet adjustment. Try to find more videos from the same guy.Last edited by Ri$hi; 01-23-2014, 10:56 AM.

The Bull looks absolutely neat, 65K appears to be a good deal.Originally posted by petrolhead_chn View PostIs it true that CI engines cannot be driven continuously... say like for an hour or more??

It is somewhat true that CI engines cannot be driven HARD continuously, the biggest reason being their poor oil circulation and the second reason being the inconsistent tappets. Add to it their non-reviving nature.
Tappet adjustment is absolutely DIY job. You can search for Youtube link, their is one. You need to open the tappet cover and tighten the nuts I guess.
Oil leaks can be somewhat arrested by using better gasket seals.
Switch to OEM short bottle exhaust (Indori, it has S shape structure inside) for the gorgeous thump

Re: Choosing a Royal Enfield? Ask here...
Thank you mate. I managed to adjust the tappets. The inlet was loose...had up and down play. Corrected it. Managed to adjust chain slack, refill clutch oil. For now i have used 20w40 for clutch. Will change it to 10w30 soon while changing clutch chain. Still the noise appears to come from the top portion. Maybe rockers need replacementOriginally posted by gyan_recl350 View PostThe Bull looks absolutely neat, 65K appears to be a good deal.

I wish it could be a DIY as well. Any bullet specialist that I take I go to says he will need 3days minimum for servicing. Wonder what they would do?

I think with spoke rims you cannot move to tubeless tires. You need to first change the rim to alloy type.Originally posted by Feel_Like_God View PostBooked RE CL350 last week.
Is there any option to change the tyres of Classic 350 to tubeless ones.If yes, then any idea how much would be the approx expenses.

IMHO Bulls look awesome in spoke wheels rather than the S-alloys or even any other design.Originally posted by Feel_Like_God View PostBooked RE CL350 last week.

Re: Choosing a Royal Enfield? Ask here...
I too agree with you, rim looks THE BEST on bull, and especially on Classics the alloy does not look good at all. Well but I think the new RE CGT comes with alloy spoke rims and tubeless rear tyres. So that can be doneOriginally posted by petrolhead_chn View PostIMHO Bulls look awesome in spoke wheels rather than the S-alloys or even any other design.

I am currently trying to clean the spokes using some vinegar and soda combo plus the brasso.Originally posted by gyan_recl350 View PostI too agree with you, rim looks THE BEST on bull, and especially on Classics the alloy does not look good at all. BTW, is there any way that the sound or thump or a bull gets low just by replacing the spark plugs and carb boots.
If it might help, the previous owner had the spark plugs of a tvs xl or Scooty :banghead: and the carb boots were torn. I replaced them. The air filter to be replaced. Any specific direction that the filter should be bolted?

I did not get that spark plug and carb bit. Anyways please use the recommend spark plug only as the heat range should be proper.Originally posted by petrolhead_chn View PostI am currently trying to clean the spokes using some vinegar and soda combo plus the brasso.

Re: Choosing a Royal Enfield? Ask here...
Thats wrong. It can be ridden continously....but not at higher speeds
Oil leaks can be adjusted 100%
Find a gud mech who can work on CI engines
CI u need to have patience

Re: Choosing a Royal Enfield? Ask here...
Hmmm... Let me try again. I replaced the old spark plug to bullet's Bosch. The bull was running on a TVS XL or Scooty plug in it which was wrong.Originally posted by gyan_recl350 View PostI did not get that spark plug and carb bit. Then I replaced the carb rubber boots as it was torn.
Now, after replacing these two, I notice that the thump has reduced. I mean the bull sounds like any other bike now. The 'dug dug dug' is missing. Hope I am clear.
Did the replacement have any effect?

Re: Choosing a Royal Enfield? Ask here...
Hmm got it. Actually it should be opposite, the Bull should sound better as we assume with better sparking, the fuel would burn better hence more exhaust gases and eventually better sound. Now you need to figure out if the spark plug is firing all fine or not? Also check if the boot is fitted properly.Originally posted by petrolhead_chn View PostHmmm... Let me try again. Do you see any loss in power or symptoms of Bull dying at idling or difficulty in cold starts now as compared to before?
