Re: Choosing a Royal Enfield? Ask here...
Go for the one which you like more. By choosing TBTS definitely would have some extra benefits like a more useful console, rear disc brake, a better swing arm etc but then you would loose nothing as such if you go for Classic as well as still in 2014 the RE is not about gizmos and technology, it is just about the sheer pleasure of riding itOriginally posted by Vikram Vijaykumar View Post

Re: Choosing a Royal Enfield? Ask here...
Hey friends am back, well the vacation got screwed because of some work commitments.
Anyways, a twist and an update, i am still out of luck. Couldn't meet the electra guy as he is again out of Bombay. But then i thought I'll just check the RE store to find out things(i was avoiding that till now so as not to take an impulsive decision
.) Anyway the point is, visited the showroom and the Thunderbird took my breath away..wife also liked it very much. Now the wait period here for TB350 is 2-3 months and classic is 8 months.
The mind now is in a dilemma of which one to go for..TB350 or Cl350? Some help guys? @gyan_recl350 any tips please?
Thanks!
Cheers,

In bumper to bumper traffic, which will be easier to ride Electra or Thunderbird?
On rough roads will thunderbird ride better then Electra?
Whats the advantage of better swingarm in Thunderbird?
since Thunderbird carries more weight will Electra beat it in 0-60 runs?Don't Honk Unnecessarily

On bumper to bumper traffic I think Electra would be a bit comfortable than TBTS but seriously it doesn't matter at all. Once you tame it, you are used it you would find comfort in whatever Bull you ride.Originally posted by Satyamzma View PostI got few more questions..

I have no experience of riding TBTS on rough roads though I have ridden Electra and does well like all other Bullets.
A better swing arm means better stability at rear wheel while braking and cornering
To be honest why you are worried about that fraction of difference which may or may not be there when electra and TBTS both compete for 0-60 run? We all know Bullets are not for racing and neither they are judged on the parameters like 0-60 is x seconds, 0-100 in y seconds.
Buddy you take test ride of all, take it extensively and go for the one which you liked and which your heart call for

Friend I would say again, you like TBTS go for it. You already have got answer for your dilemma as you said "visited the showroom and the Thunderbird took my breath away..wife also liked it very much" . With TBTS you would have more useful console, a rear disc brake, a better swing-arm and above all you liked it already.Originally posted by seeker View PostHey friends am back, well the vacation got screwed because of some work commitments.

Trust me it is all heart call, choosing one over other as they all share the same engine and power figures so it all boils down to cosmetics and few extra benefits and comfort.
BTW if going for TBTS do check the console thoroughly as many complain about it later, you can read the TBTS thread here but having said that it is no showstopper from being buying it
Now since you have asked me I have to throw my choice. If I were you, I would always choose Classic or may be Electra or STD just because (pardon me) I never liked the TBTS. I like Classic, Electra and STD for it's vintage Bullet looks and I always loved that headlight and tiger lamp assembly
, the upright sitting position . But again it is personal choice.

Re: Choosing a Royal Enfield? Ask here...
Thanks a lot Gyaan.. Visited showroom today & watched a variety of 500cc bikes there..dealer told me if you want fast i can give you any 500cc model within a week..
tried a Bullet 500(green)..& it was awesome..Fat tire,dhug dhug exhaust note,big & comfortable..
what are your views on Bullet 500?
will spare parts availability may be an issue in future?

. It has blend of all. A carburetor setup so that if things go wrong then can be easily fixed and then we all know how much we can play with carb and re-jetting etc, has got power with that 500cc engine, has got that vintage old Bullet look and a wider and better tyre at rear. So it has mix of all. Honestly had it been launched the time I bought my Classic, I would have gone for B5 for sure
. So if one is not bothered about mileage much then B5 is one beautiful machine to own. I don't think spares would be concerns in future as we still get spares for CI Bullet and there is no spare as such special for B5 which may dry out.

but that was great fun and very enlightening.
Made up my mind,Whew! No actually that wasn't a tough decision to take. Am going ahead with TB350. In all probability would be booking it this sat-sun
. I think with the waiting period of 2-3 months i should be able to take it to Leh in August right?
Also i had a question, is it ok to ride the new bike for a 100-120 kms thrice a week..of course I'll maintain the speed limit for the run-in period but will that cause any issue on the engine? I am planning to travel to work on it as much possible and thats almost 50kms away from where i reside-one way. Is it wise?

Yes in 2-3 months your bike would be pretty ready for leh, just make sure you are done with 2000 kms running period but even if you don't do no issues. Running period completion so that when going to Leh you can take the bike above 80km/h of speed that's why.
BTW it is safe to travel 100-120 kms thrice a week before the first service and before running in but only thing you need to make sure is, do not cross 50-55 and take break of say 5-10 mins after riding for 30-35 mins. This all sounds so lame but this rituals are important for letting the engine break in properly. For a new bike if you expose it to prolonged heating then chances of engine getting seized is more hence this break in between. Else it is perfectly safe if you follow this.
All the best, do share the pics

Re: Choosing a Royal Enfield? Ask here...
Hey friends thank u all for your valuable inputs. Had a hard time choosing between classic 350 and Thunderbird 350, both are great bikes but after all the enquiries I finally booked the classic 350 silver. TBTS 350 seat for pillion is too small.... That's one reason I chose classic over it. Waiting period is 3-6 months hope I get it quicker than that

Re: Choosing a Royal Enfield? Ask here...
I wanted to own a Bull for quite some time now. Finally booked the Desert Storm on 16th Feb. Official waiting period is 6 months but, well let me put it this way, knowing the owner of a showroom has its advantages.
Hoping to lay my hands on the beauty in a months time. Will definitely post a ownership review later. Just wanted to ask 1 question (not sure if this is the right thread for it!). Which exhaust should I go for considering I want a decent thump, which I won't get from the stock long bottle. Want to pick from 2 options: RE upswept (off-road) or the Short bottle (Indore) silencers. Don't want a very loud note but a decent thump, so not considering the Megaphone, Goldie, etc. Please suggest.
Thanks in advance.sigpic

First of all congrats in advance. Now you know what it becomes very easy to suggest exhaust to guys like you as you are so clear with your requirement as you don't want LOUD and want decent thumpOriginally posted by manasmahajan View PostI wanted to own a Bull for quite some time now. . You know where does the problem starts? When they say "I want loud thump and it should sound like CI Bullet
LOL "
Without thinking too much Indori would be best for you, has got very sweet and nice thump. But don't change it immediately. Change it after at least 1500-1600 kms, est after 2000 kms

Hey thanks gyan for the quick reply. Yup lets say I'm a guy who has a clear thinking and friends who have bulls fitted with all sorts of exhausts.Originally posted by gyan_recl350 View PostFirst of all congrats in advance. I heard the thump of the RE upswept as well and frankly quite liked it. As of now thinking of getting that one fitted from the showroom. A little skeptical of getting an aftermarket one. Have done all sorts of mods to my earlier bikes and plan to keep this one as stock as possible.
Just for information, do you know any good and reliable chap in Pune who does the exhausts? I know of Shakeel who makes the Pune version of goldies but does he provide indori as well?

BTW don't change the silencer immediately after buying the Bull, better let it complete the running period of 2000 kms
