If only on cold starts then no need to worry I guess, it's fine until and unless it is way too abnormal.

Here is another query that will help me figure out a feasible plan for my CI bullet Electra.

I changed the primary chain, clutch case packing, clutch oil, clutch plates and tensioner, tappet cover and also did a carb tuning. Chain sprockets, wiring and fork/disc servicing in pipeline.

            # there is whining/humming/grinding noise right from 1st gear and persistent across all gears. No whining or crying at idle. What could this be?

            # there is this 'tak tak' or tapping noise. Some say it is rocker and few said it is cam issue. I am hesitant to let mechs work on it without confirming from fellow bull owners

So what are the indicators of bad cam and rockers? How do I read/confirm?
Would it do good if I change the rockers and latest adjustable cam gears altogether? Would latest cam be compatible on CI Electra.

Thanks in advance for all pointers

Getting angry at somebody is the same as getting angry with a bike that just won't go. You should stop and start thinking.
A good mechanic will let you watch even without charging you for it. |
It is funny to know that we've been imitated and copied so well
and surprising when we notice our mistakes are copied as well.

Go for new DS since anyways later you would shift to HD so till then you should be buying a bike which is more reliable, powerful and for which spares are easily available. So go for DS

One thing is sure since this whining/grinding noise is coming only after applying the gears that means only when the power transmission starts this sound is appearing so my guess goes here to clutch here (may be clutch plates).

This tak-tak sound can be there for rockers but also check if the cam gears have got any backlash, even if small backlash is there this sound could appear and I assume this sound won't be there when RPM is a little high?

I would say go one by one. Don't change the rockers now, first check if any cam gear backlash is there and then move to rockers and before even moving to anything first make sure the tappets are adjusted properly

Thank you again for helping out mate. Appreciate it

The clutch plates are new OE including clutch chain and tensioner. I will check for clutch plates, cam and then rockers. Tappets were recently adjusted.

Immediately after your reply I went to my mechanic who has asked 3days to sort this out which I dislike
                    Wonder I could do.

Meanwhile the carb was adjusted and the occasional dying of bull at idle has disappeared. Fixed the wiring part. Fork cone is on cards today. I gave my bull a quick detailing

It is a VM24. I haven't opened it for cleaning yet. I had the rust cleansed out in battery casing and cover. Painted the cover. And sure I will update appropriately. Thanks again

Sorry mate. That noise is very much evident at lower rpms like you said. As the rpm increases I hear just 60% of the noise.

                                Hello Friends,

Newbie here, just joined xBHP but have been following it for many years now.Taken the plunge finally.

Need advice from the experts here.

I am a bit confused between 500 and 350 models. Can't decide which one to go for. I currently own a Pulsar 150, been riding it for the past 13 years now, have completed more than 1L+ kms and thinking of upgrading to a bullet. This has been a long lasting dream by the way..

My current usage is around 15kms daily and weekend usages of approx 40-50kms. However i intend to do long trips on it and keen to take up the Leh circuit this year.

So the bottom line is which one 350cc or 500cc, looking at the classic series.

Also, the situation is that an acquaintance has a booking of CL350, delivery expected in March end-April. For 500cc I would have to wait out the waiting period and am not sure if i will get the delivery by Aug-Sep, thats when the Leh trip is planned. I also have an option of going for the used ones but not comfortable. Any advice on this front will also be helpful.

                                Please provide your inputs.

                                Cheers,
