Re: Choosing a Royal Enfield? Ask here...
Oh no , I don't think you can compare them at all. The riding position on the CBR is comfy , I haven't taken any long rides on it. But it definitely feels more comfy than the GT. But I guess its the design of a Cafe Racer.Originally posted by Old Biker View PostHow would you compare it to a CBR 250? I Come from Japanese bikes so have no direct experience of RE problems or character traits as you may prefer to call them
I have ridden the Himalayan and liked the brakes on it. The rear brake actually has feel unlike all others I have tried ( among Indian bikes).
"character traits" , You'll be getting a lot of those. But I guess it the problems depend on each person. My bro owns the GT, drives it a bit rash and it does give us problems from time to time. My UCE500 hasn't given me any hiccups , but its pretty new and I don't rev hard.
Himalayan is really fun
Put it through every pothole and bump I could find , it took them all and never bottomed out. Even with 2 persons weighing a 100 each :P
If you like the feedback you get from a long stroke engine , look no further than an Enfield. Unless you can afford Harleys or Triumphs

Re: Choosing a Royal Enfield? Ask here...
I was at the triumph showroom on Saturday and the guy there was telling me that the Himalayan was every bit as capable off road as the tiger. Only in terms of accelerating did it fall behind. But that's to be expected.

I've got a test drive booked for the Street Triple , they're asking for a credit card - Got any idea what's that about? (I was a bit sleepy so never bothered to question them) and the test drive rules are bit over dramatic :/ Even premium cars don't have such rules.Originally posted by Old Biker View PostI was at the triumph showroom on Saturday and the guy there was telling me that the Himalayan was every bit as capable off road as the tiger. With the impending in monsoon season in Chennai , I really wish I had an off-roader
But I think you're underestimating the Tiger a bit, starts at 12L, there must be something

Re: Choosing a Royal Enfield? Ask here...
Hello guys!
Or shall I say family?
Cause I love this thread.
I've read every page, and now am little upset that they're over.
For me it was like a novel to read and damn it was an interesting one!
After deciding on getting a KTM Duke, gixxer, apache, man it all comes down to only one mean machine! Royal Enfield.
(I know I posted before here too, but I can't help, but be part of it and get myself one Enfield!)
Thanks to this thread the steroid type thinking of "Royal Enfield's are not reliable." Has gone. Sure they might have some issues, but hey which bike doesn't? Just yesterday, my hero maestros speedometer cable got spoilt and the bikes not even a year old!
BTW
I'm 22, lean, weight 60.
(I'm planning to build up muscle now!)
I'm sorry and I say it again I'm sorry!
The dilemma of which Enfield to get is hard to answer.
Even after reading the whole thread, I can't make-up my mind.
Im pretty much sold on the bullet 350 cause
Simple
Seems like a tried and tested bike.
Heavy crank? A lot of people talk about this and some people suggest this since it pulls better.
Electra seems good, but will it look too big on me?
Also my brother told me it has electric start issues?
I'm not a big fan of the classic 350
But I feel since Its smaller compared to both it would suit me better?
I live in mumbai and mostly will be doing city travel.
My concern is in start and go traffic will I miss the electric start? (If I get standard)
How good are aftermarket electric starts?
I know I should rather get the Electra but I will lose out on the heavy crank.
PS. I'm no speed demon, I ride slow.
I'm really sorry guys, I'm still confused can someone help me pick a suitable Enfield for me?
I did do a test ride of all three
I found the classic uncomfortable
I liked the bullet, I could kick start it with ease and the Electra was also good.
Yet I am confused x_x

Re: Choosing a Royal Enfield? Ask here...
Well as for me I am sailing on the same boat as you are but yes I have made my mind on the classic 350, but this is going to take 1 more year to go. Maybe it might happen in 2017. I have just purchased a brand new 150 avanger street in January this year. Hence I might buy a bull either in 2017 or in 2018 but yes the last bike for me would be a bull now.Originally posted by Hollowback View PostHello guys!

As for the confusion I was very convinced with the classic as both electra and classic are in my group of friends here hence I know what it feels like as I have done a solo riding on the both the machines for 100 km each.
I was very much happy on the classic as in city as well as on the highway. Even I don't ride fast I am happy ridding my machine in between 40 and 50. Well what a bull for this is the best speed for the bike to ride. As been said if you want to ride fast then I believe buying a cbr 250 at the same price as a classic.
As my friends bike have got good cousioning done on there said bikes so that made the ride more comfy. I am 5'7 weight is like 82.
Trust me classic is a better bet than electra.click me

Well, you can practice all your skills on an avenger till then.Originally posted by arjunb25 View PostWell as for me I am sailing on the same boat as you are but yes I have made my mind on the classic 350, but this is going to take 1 more year to go. That seems to be a very practical bike, I too had eyes on the avenger.
But, royal Enfield just feels ageless.
I also love the fact that its more of a DIY kinda bike.
Well, I too won't be purchasing it right away, but in a few months.
Congrats that you're finally out of the dilemma!
Why do u say classics a better bet than Electra.
I was at the showroom the other day and the worker their suggested don't go for any bike apart from bullet or Electra they're the best.
Can someone please answer my questions from my previous post?

Re: Choosing a Royal Enfield? Ask here...
I don't understand on what basis mechanics suggest Electra or standard.
All the Royal Enfield bikes has UCE engine and no difference between them other than body.
Rest the choice is of customer that which bike looks better to his eye.
Electra, standard, classic all are different by just looks. If you are asking about 350 only.Regards

I'm only looking at these three and the 350cc segment only.

Re: Choosing a Royal Enfield? Ask here...
Classics are shorter i mean wheelbase wise and electra and standard has a bit more wheel base , but it has skinny tyres . the classic has more retro looks and some facilities like electric start and disc brake which will not be there on the std , mainly the difference is whether u want a retro looking classic which a teenager would look good riding or a std or electra which has the looks and charm of a true royal enfield bullet . :-)

Re: Choosing a Royal Enfield? Ask here...
Query for Electra & Standard 500 & Classic 350 owners :
Since your bike is carbed version, can you kickstart your bike when the battery is dead?
Somewhere i read that in carbed version you can (never in efi engine) but somewhere it says no.
Anybody has any experience?

Re: Choosing a Royal Enfield? Ask here...
Well, I have been reading it for last 1 hour or so and could sense passion of RE owners. However, after reading this article, I am not sure if purchasing RE makes sense -
6 reasons why I would never buy a Royal Enfield! - RiderZone
Is there a discussion on xBHP that tries to counter this perspective?

Actually everyother people has some kind of view regarding Royal Enfield bikes. Some of them are very passionate, while some are equally negative.
Unless you own one or ride one for a considerable time, why should you believe every word of others. It is as simple as that.
(An no, i do not own a RE product. Just my two points)
Ride safe and have fun.

I agree - I love the way TB looks - but little apprehensive because I keep hearing/reading about these problems.Originally posted by nadz11.ns View Post@manishh

Re: Choosing a Royal Enfield? Ask here...
To put it in a simple way,if you are okey with investing time and money on the bike on regular basis then only think about buying a bull.otherwise stay away.
rest all is good.i am a tb500 owner.
P.S. anybody know what would be a good price to sell 2013 TB500, 24k on the odo.Last edited by demon_speeding; 09-02-2016, 05:16 PM.
