you can fit easily with Thunder bird new model rear disc setup. it is direct fit. but it hard to find. and takes lot of money.

      • Which Bullet shall i buy for MUMBAI ROADS!

        Hello,

        First of all.
I have hard Bullets break down ALOT and are like elephants, they break down every month.
        Is it true?
I don't ride rough, i dont speed up like a maniac, nor do i stress on the engine. FYI

i went to RE showroom today, Sakinaka.

Had a test drive of the Thunderbird, Classic 350.

I'm gonna get the 350cc for sure, and I'm ok with the standard one, or shall i go for the electra? i dont mind the kick at all, im ok with that.
But front disc breaks? is standard bad with breaking? They did not have the 350cc of standard.

I also wanted to ride the continental gt, i like it, if i buy that, i will replace the handle, so i can get rid of the posture.
Yes! i know that's the whole point of the bike! but well, thats me.

I will mainly travel in the city 70% and 30% highways, its like a secondary vehicle, since we have a scooter.

Also, i am concerned about the mileage
can i expect 30-35? cause i drive around 40-60 ONLY.

Which one should i go for city use and bit of highway?
        Are these bikes reliable?

I am also getting offered an old bullet, not the UCE engine one.
the old ones, with the gear on the other side, are they better? or shall i opt for a new one?
        Mileage and RELIABILITY MATTERS ALOT.
so which would be better? old or new?

        HELP

Short answer - NO. It doesn't. On the contrary of the normal feel, RE's of the modern era is a very dependable machine, provided you spare *some* caring time. mine is almost 44k on the odo in around 2 years and all I had to change are the "consumables" like the rubbers, brake pads, air filter and the likes. The problems I faced were 3 punctures, lol.

My bike gulps Motul instead of that pathetic oil from RE and the gear shifts are butter smooth, plus has very nimble vibrations till 80+kmph, above which the ride doesn't stay enjoyable anymore.

But one thing is to be kept in mind, in case you wish to whip your bike occasionally with sudden accelerations and crank the top speed, be sure to hear the famous engine clattering skeleton dance. ROFL.

Electra has a kick as well as a electric starter. Every bike of RE has the same setup, sans the basic Std model. As for braking, Discs are better than Drum. end of story. for an almost 200kg metal, using both the brakes together (front and rear in 70%-30% ratio) is the call. Too much pressure on the rear, and my bike tends to lock up.

I also wanted to ride the continental gt, i like it, if i buy that, i will replace the handle, so i can get rid of the posture.
Yes! i know that's the whole point of the bike! but well, thats me.

Personal suggestion, Don't get the Conti then. It is the best possible "as it is" bike in India. Everything is just in perfect proportions.

I will mainly travel in the city 70% and 30% highways, its like a secondary vehicle, since we have a scooter.
City --> Classic or Electra. Classic has a flatter handlebar and Electra has a raised one which could be comfortable to ride, but then again, you can change the handlebar with around 500 INR.

Also, i am concerned about the mileage
can i expect 30-35? cause i drive around 40-60 ONLY.

I used to get above 45 kmpl till around 30/32k. now I get around 39-40kmpl.

Which one should i go for city use and bit of highway?
            Are these bikes reliable?

RE bikes can be categorized as - i. Bullet, Electra or the Classic - Retro Street. ii. Thunderbird - Cruiser. iii. Conti Gt - Cafe Racer. iv. Himalayan - Adventure Tourer. Choose for yourself.

I am also getting offered an old bullet, not the UCE engine one.

so which would be better? old or new?

UCE is better. by miles, heck - by light years. The only gripe is the engine noise. It comes because Aluminium is used instead of Iron as the casing for the engine which doesn't mask noise as well as Iron, but is more compliant to the stringent laws now effective in the automobile industry.
            Read this:

Comparison of UCE and CI engines.

Thanks for the amazing reply. That's pretty much changed my mind. Lengthy and good answer!

But now I am stuck again. the only reason I didn't get the Thunderbird is cause I heard its hard to ride in the city. But after I took a test drive, it changed my mind :P

              So the mileage seems good.
              Comfortable.
              Reliable.

              All checks.
              Maybe Enfield it is!

                Hi guys...
I am confused between thunderbird 350 and Himalayan. Till the time Himalayan was not on roads, i was sure i am going for thunderbird but Himalayan has made me skeptical.

Secondly, i read a news item that said RE will be upgrading all its older models with its new LS411CC engine. Is this an authentic news ? This has further worsen my dilemma 😉

Himalayan is not a full fledged choice for me as my earlier experience with offroader like impulse is not good. Especially, in rains where water from front tyre shoots right on the legs, also rear tyre water flashes on pillions clothes. Is it the same with Himalayan?

                Can you guys guide me?

You don't ride off road wearing jeans and trousers. Get proper gear and then go off road.

The price quoted will be same in all places in your city, be it RE Brand store or a Dealer showroom. But in my case I booked from RE Brand store, i was given a 45 days approx waiting period but the bike was allotted within 3 weeks. The issues started when the Brand store (even after submitting all documents and proofs and filling up the RTA forms correctly) made a blunder in my Name in the Temp RC and then I had to chase them to get it corrected. Towards the end it was me who had to spend time, effort and 1000INR in DD to the RTA for getting name corrected and all in all it added one whole month for a process that could have been completed in a single day had the name been correct originally.

                    Now, the thing is:-
the Details Were taken by RE Brand store.
The RTA Form which i filled up (correctly) was given to me by the RE Brand store and it was also on their letter headed paper.
The Temp RC formalities were also taken up and completed (at the first iteration) by the RE Brand Store.

And after all this too whenever i approached them for any follow up for this episode, their dialogue used to be "Sir, we are the RE Brand store and not any RE dealer outlet to help you with your RTA work. You have signed a Disclaimer with RE so we are not responsible for RTA stuff."

So i feel if i had approached the Dealer for buying a bike as opposed to the Brand Store, atleast the dealer would have been nice and courteous to us when we needed their help.

Now, as i said this is my personal experience and advise, and that too from a different State. I would suggest to check the response to whichever outlet is closer to you (will help in follow up trips during your documentation/waiting period) and Also check whoever has the best reputed Service centre that you will visit later onwards once you have the bike with you. These are the only two decisive factors i feel.
ya i feel that too. so i went ahead purchased RE TB 350 from RE brand showroom jayanagar. They were quite helpful, but ya bit attitude was visible in their tone and behaviour that they are not any dealer. but all in all it was a nice experience. Got my bike in under 1 month, that also due to my cheque took quite some time to get cleared. Had first service also last week in brand service center in btm, was a bit lengthy process, but here too i was late to the party and it was weekend and they had lot of bikes, it was quite crowded. Really nice experience with my RE till now, i am in love with my blue bull. Happy thumping.....

                    ----consecutive posts auto-merged-----

Broke my footrest front one on gear side. Can you guys suggest where should i get it replaced, as i have just bought it last month and got it serviced last week. Shall i go to authorized center or can replace it anywhere will it break warranty. and can i replace only one and how much will it cost??

Hello to all xbhp members.iam here because last month I booked Royal Enfield standard 350 and would be getting its deliverey around July end .
As before also I was confused between STD and Electra and till date I am as the showroom people don't have STD for test ride so I am not sure of its braking power compared to Electra with disk as I know that i can live without electric starter.
But what I want to know is about the braking power of those drum brakes in STD ,I love STD as compared to Electra as also I have ridden a lot on tbts 350 one of my friend has it but don't like the newer tbts as per the looks.
Finally I want to share your experiences on STD as mostly I would be doing city driving but also would be doing occasionally long tours on it...
Please help I today I went to the showroom they told me to start the payment process so my bike would be delivered around 15 July this month.
Would love to hear all your views for the same .

If you ask me, for a touring bike, which would weigh about 250 kgs ( with the rider of course ) disc brakes are essential. Drum brakes might be good enough inside the city, but on the highway or on the hills, the drum brakes would face quite a lot of brake fade as the heat generated increases.

Best is to get the Electra, as it is almost the same in the other aspects, and still does better in the braking department.

                          Thanks for the reply auto
I personally like STD more compared to Electra and I know Electra would be what you should buy looking everything compared to STD but my heart is with it only.also as the quality of RE bikes I know the more complicated it gets more chance of it getting you stucked are more so I dont want no extras I just want the bike as simple as it could be
Also to mention my friend had 2012 Thunderbird twinspark which I have also ridden a lot and that's the bike I wanted but nolonger available so I thought to get STD 350 my only doubts are that as you told also about the breaks I would only move to Electra if those brakes are so bad that you can predict it's breaking power while driving.
Also just want to know that my dealer has asked me to do the full payment and said that he will give the bike to me around 15-16 July can I change my bike to Electra if needed.... please help I am waiting for your reply as mostly i would be driving it in city only but also be using it for touring purposes also.
I also read somewhere that STD 350 and 500 have same crank and that would mean low vibration apart of all the 350 range of bike ... please elaborate on this also
                          Thanks in advance.......

This question I am always asking my self since past one month. It is not long I have bought a bajaj avanger 150cc street. But want to buy a classic 350cc in next year. Should I go over bajaj and buy this bull. Or leave it. As the one which I am riding at the moment is giving the peace of biking from my last set of purchase. I have been keeping a good eyes on the thread of classic 350 but as this thread came up just wanted to put in some words for cross check yes or no.
My friends have classic which has been purchased along with me in January 2016. Well so far as they say they are very happy but when I ride there bikes I am not happy. As there are few things that one's you keep ridding bikes you learn it or experience it a you ride. Like for instance one of my friend who has the bull his tappet was so loose that I could hear it clearly told him to but he says that It is normal. How can that sound be normal.
I am a bit confused here please guide me as the booking here for a bike waiting period is 4 months. For a silver classic 350cc. Is it actually worth spending 1.75 lcs. With rto and insurance. Please guide. Thanks
