  • [QUOTE=powertwin;798516] I have this>>

What a lovely beauty it is, when I was studying in Mettupalayam, I had one of my school friends who used to sneak his uncles RD....I had went around this bike everytime he brings out, was too small to even try on that bike then. DREAM BIKE FOR ME!!!

    I want this?????

    Pls pls pls...

No other bike has thrilled me like this, when in college had a chance to ride this, one of my friends had this in pristine condition in Periyanaiken palayam.

The next bike which thrilled me was the roadking cdi, I had mine which was sold without my knowledge, couldnt get one after that.

Muthu - Anytime if you wish to sell a RD350 or a Roadking CDI, pls buzz me I would want to get it. I have a CL2 in coimbatore only, not in a great shape, one of my friends is using it. RX100 / YBX / Lightning 535 are still with me in very good condition
Never Give up on something that you can't go a day without thinking about.

    Cheers

After reading this post, i went back to mid 1980's and one incident came flooding back to my memory, one day when i was zipping through thick traffic on my RX-100 its around 7 PM, a bike very similar to M-50 overtook me in a flash and i really had tough time keeping up with him. in those days the RX was the king in 100 cc class, so there is a blunt rule that no other bike can match with it when the engine enters the POWER BAND. So, at last i caught him when the railway gate is closed, and to my surprise, its a Pearl Yamaha, i asked the rider that we'll exchange the bikes for a few kilometers, he agreed and i rode the bike and surprised again to find its super zippy in the traffic.

Surprised because this bike has a clutch-less Toe & heel shifter (first time in India)
....Frank: I request you to squeeze your brain and confirm whether the Pearl Yamaha, you rode was a " Clutchless"
If it was a Clutchless one , then it might be a 50cc MF1, Pure Jap machine(notalso a Pearl Yamaha 50 cc.)
( for time being plz keep this with clutch or W/O Clutch for some time and do concentrate on the other aspects ( from the pics of M50 & Pearl

Nobody can beat your memory & the indepth knowledge of biking...

Hardly could I find time to source for RD's around

Saw 1 in Chennai (AP Registered) the bike was in perfect condition, the problem was that there was no book, but still he asked for 65k

Have moved to Jaipur and had seen 2 bikes and both had some different problems

Surprisingly 1 was a KA registered with NOC, but the problem was with the engine, could hear the rings noice & a humming sound (I have seen & ridden a wonderful bike in Coimbatore where it was very clear) & also the bike is known for its power, but couldnt see that in this machine but the outer work is great

the other 1 which I saw was a Punjab registered one, the bike was good (decent) and also the book was there, he quoted 80k but the engine serial number was damaged, the bike is in black (repainted) the original as per book is red. doesnt look genuine.

There is a mech in Punjab whom I spoke to he has few and quotes around 70k to 1lakh for a good bike with clean papers, have to meet him some time during may. Not sure if I can make it there, but will still try

                Have PM'ed you...pls help

Anna, i'm sure the bike i rode is a Clutch-less one, 50 cc, but not sure whether its a "Pearl Yamaha" or pure Jap Yamaha MF-1, it belongs to a Mechanic here, not sure if its still in existence. does the Pearl Yamaha and the original Jap MF-1 look alike?

frank may be you have rode the second one yamaha mate or V50/70 since it overtook rx100but you need to recollect wheather it had seperate mounted handle bar or the single combination with headlight.

                        I am bit
If it was V80, b'coz this was the Bike which can be a close contender to your RX100....it had all the qualities not only power, but also butter smooth handling, which will demands very less from the rider unlike her elder brothers including my Pearl Yamaha MG2 (75cc...to be precise 73cc)
If it would have NOT been a such a close ratio gearbox, obviously with 4 speed for sure it would have been very close contest even at Straights!!
Here are the pics of Yamaha mate V80 of my Friend Venkat ( he to a Yamaha Boy like Frank, who has couple of RD s & a R1, apart from this V80 (1982)>>>

But still this Pearl Yamaha discussion is not over, need you guys to compare the frame structure &other technical features of Bajaj M50 & P.Yamaha and post your views...have to clear some myths!!

                        • frame structure rear shock absorber and mount angle is diffrent on Pearl will give better suspension.

front fork structure design is diffrent compared to bajaj M50, only half frame fork and only connected at wheel end with mudgaurd.

technical ??? Pearl has auto lube, inclined engine(cylinder), gear shift with foot pedal vs Hand shift,

How many variants of Peral Yamaha were manufactured/sold in India? i thought there is only one variant which pissed off my RX, i guess this happen due to a close ratio gear box of the pearl Yamaha or the Power band may have kicked-in before the RX at that speed.

How can we compare the M-50/80 with a truly classic Pearl Yamaha? In the Bajaj variants, the Frame/chassis is a direct copy to the Step-throughs of that era, engine & gear-box were built from the vast parts-bin of Bajaj scooters. just check the Gear-box, its a Selector type which does duty in all the Vespa/bajaj scooters, The handle bar/head-light assembly/switch gear directly picked from the Bajaj Priya.

There came TWO variants....one is MG-1>>>
Came came across this a few years ago....engine was removed from the bike, but while tried opening that..almost every aluminum part broke into bits
But nevertheless the owner was asking insane price..hence the deal was droped
                                Thank God!!
