You are extremely lucky, extremely so. This part of Maharashtra is indigenous to the saw scaled viper and the common krait, two f the most poisonous snakes in the world. The krait especially is aggressive, foul tempered and bites at the slightest perceived provocation. Its venom is so toxic that it almost dissolves skin and bone. Had it been any of these two beauties, you would have been a stiff within 10 minutes flat. And the place where you slept is the most favourite spot for these guys. I am surprised that you did not exert some basic care when out in the bush...
Your fotos bring back the fondest memories of my camps in the National Defence Academy and Indian Military Academy and long range patrols in the Northeast. No dearth of snakes, scorpions, lizards, leeches etc. But we used to undertake one simple drill - beat the ground around for some time, flatten the bushes and keep away from crevices in rocks. Spread some kerosene/diesel around - the smell puts off the snakes. Shake all boots hard, beat them on the ground well before putting one's foot inside - standard drill in Rajasthan (boots are No 1 favourite bed time spots for scorpions)
Perhaps the vibrations from the bikes and your feet dispersed the snakes this time. Next time, you may not be so lucky.
Take care.
