Sorry to barge in again but I just thought of another reason why people might prefer to not wear riding gear inspite of even having them. That would be "Mumma will find out that I am taking the bike out of town. I don't want her to know. I ride 80 km daily in the city, why would I need gear to go to Lonavala which is not even a 150km round trip !!" What if this guy slips inside the patch of oil inside the e-way tunnel and breaks his leg/something else. Who has the heart to break the news to his mumma. Bikes are getting faster, People are buying Dukes and CBRs as their first bikes and we here are discussing a retrograde step.

And FYI, Pune people are no longer sent back for lack of gear. Nobody has the heart to send people back. The only one I know of who was sent back was Rakshas(on one of his early rides). We provide them gear to ride along. They have to wear it even if it pisses them off (I have seen someone like this one too). The last incident when someone was not allowed to ride their bike was at G66G (over 1 year back) it was KTJ and that was because he didn't have insurance. Still he came as a Pillion on a Ninja which I think is waay more fun than riding a Dio all the way.

Hey i would like to .... this would be my first ride with xbhpians ...if u guys permit .... tell me about the basic gears i need to have ... recently bought a fox armour jacket and riding gloves .... hope that will do ... well i never step out without a helmet .... thats for sure ... any suggestions ???

While in some cases cost might be an issue, I think in other cases its more of an issue with attitude. I think the point the peeps are trying to make is that while its OK to establish mandates for helmets which are required by law, any additional mandate for gears is frowned upon / looked upon suspiciously / looked upon cynically / critically. My personal issue would not have been one of cost, but one that would go something like

"Is it worth spending 1,000 bucks (basic) on buying alien looking stuff that I will probably not wear beyond one ride and that too so I can have the "privilege" to ride with a few xbhpians I do not know? What if I don't like riding with them? What if I discover they are snoots or horrible riders? I mean, I'm an excellent rider, I've been riding for years, why would I want them to dictate what I wear or don't wear? Why should I spend so much money on all this then? I'm never gonna wear this in the city!".

But that changes once you ride with a co-ordinated group. I've see perceptions change very quickly once they've had a chance to witness the right way of riding - the feeling of safety, being cared for, riding without an ego (very important) on the part of very senior members who could probably ride circles around you if they so choose to, epic cornering sessions, machines to die to for - that culture is hard to resist and investments follow swiftly if only to "look the part". I know that sounds shallow but perhaps such is life and such are people and that's OK so long as they do the right thing in the end.

And I agree, it is painful to ride with noobs who do not understand the correct way of riding and endanger themselves and others in the process but I'd rather work with them and at least attempt to correct them (I would separate them from the group for sure) instead of sitting on the sidelines and watching them get hurt/die in the process and claiming that they probably deserved to crash for being so stupid. Nobody deserves to crash/die and given there are lives at stake I think it is soooooo worthwhile to attempt to reduce the ignorance and perhaps expose people to a culture where each one that rides with you is as good as family and his/her well-being is in your hands. That I think will reduce the desire to compete against each other and foster a more 'parental/brotherhood' based outlook to riding where you watch out for each other - stupid or not.

Frankly after such a heated debate both on and off the forums I feel like riding solo for the rest of my life (which would also explain why I'm still single ). Ahahahahhaahahahaha! Jokes apart, if you plan something, let me know, I might drop in last minute! I'd like to see LONOvala too

perfect, should be enough. a knee guard will be an added advantage for sure. It has saved me a lot of times!

It seems most of you are or will be bachelor on this weekend... So what's the plan for the bachelor's party ?

I might try to join you guys for the ride which will also be my first ride with you guys in these offline Mumbai meets. The only problem is that I don't have a knee guard as of now but am handy with most of the other protectors.
