I followed the method to get riding gloves:

        1. Call Cramster, find out the availability
        2. The bank account details are given in the website(cramster.in), transfer the money including the shipping charges.
        3. Send email to them with screen shot of your payment made.
        4. Expect the courier within 3 working days.

I always prefer ebay to save some money. cramster people will ship immediately if they have stock. may be in the evening if you buy afternoon. which will reach DTDC chennai head office near little mount. Go there and get it . you almost get it next day if you are in hurry

i got knee guards, balaclava , gloves all from them through ebay.

@ Sriram . your new avatar is superb.

You are welcome to G2G meet. Please avoid dots(...), SMS language and too many smileys while posting.

For knee guard you have lot of option, check 'riding gears' thread. Also, you might want to check with Cramster for knee guard. (Cramster.in).

Pre-Ride is where we go a short distance to get familiar with roads, fellow riders and group riding etiquette. It enables to understand a relatively new rider of his riding style with other riders and vice versa.

For the ride, you will need to adhere to the safety norms such as helmet, riding jacket, gloves and knee guards as already said by Ananth.

@ The newbies wanting to get gear - it all depends on your budget. Senthil has provided you with the websites, so all you need to do is get cracking.

For gloves and knee-guards expect to pay about 1000/- and 1500/- respectively for Cramster which will be the entry level gear. You can get similar priced gloves from DSG too. Obviously if you have bigger budgets, you can go for Rjays (starting Rs.2500/-) which are mid level and for top end, you can try Joe Rocket/Alpinestars.(starting Rs.4000/-)

For armored jackets, Scoyco, Cramster and DSG (3500/- onwards) offer the entry level options while RJays (6000/- onwards) are mid level and Joe Rocket/Alpinestars (11000/- onwards) form the top end of whats available in India. Please note that if your riding jacket is not armored - like a regular leather riding jacket, it would be a good idea for you to pick up a pair of elbow guards too as added protection.

Boots are expensive (6000/- onwards), so a lot of members opt for multi-purpose trail shoes like Woodlands, Adidas, etc., Your regular sneakers offer next to no protection in a fall and will most probably get worn at the toe-shifter area too. Chat with some of the senior members to get advice if you're confused.

The best local helmets I have seen are AGV's and LS2's (2500/- onwards), though more expensive options are also available. You can check with Senthil if you opt for higher priced helmets.

Oh, and if you don't like to stink up your helmets with sweat, then purchasing some liners would help too - though most riders don't use them cause they don't look cool.

Hope this helped a bit. Cheers!

As for as helmets are concerned, we have more options in India.

1). Rjays - Starts around Rs.4000 (Not a well known international brand)

2). Sparx - Well known budget brand (Should start around Rs.6000/-)

3). KBC - Well known brand (Should start around Rs.7000/-)

4). AGV(Original) - Very well known brand (Range Starts from Rs.7600/-)

Sparx & KBC are available in Performance Racing store. AGV & Rjays are available in Bachoo Motors.

                              Certifications/Testing for Helmets:
                              ---------------------------------

There are two major international certifications for Helmets. DOT (for USA) & SNELL (Europe).

DOT is an voluntary certification, where the manufacturer will test themselves & report to Department of Transportation, USA.

SNELL is an independent, autonomous testing agency & they will test all helmets themselves.

It's much more tougher to get SNELL certification, so it's obviously better the DOT.

To verify whether the model you are buying is SNELL certified, please check their official website for the exact model name/number.

                              http://www.smf.org/certlist/std_M2005.html - Older 2005 list

                              http://www.smf.org/certlist/std_M2010.html - Latest 2010 list

A properly certified helmet will hold it's own in most situations.

Last but not the least, Helmets should fit your head properly. There are no two ways about this aspect.

Dileep, i'll take an educated guess that Size-M should fit your head snugly (AGV sizing). Different brands have slightly different sizing charts.

Hope this will help you out.
