Yup, me too heard about kukkal and been to munnar via Mathikettan shola forest twice once in cage and the other on my Apache but not allowed inside the forest as none will return safely after entering the forest coz everybody forgets the path once they try to access it! lol

I believe there is a road via Reserve Forest from Caps Valley, Shola to Munnar however, the road was long closed as it pose danger to animals and man. The route through the forest has no proper tarmac or broken far from recognition as informed by Forest Guard. I doubt it is the same road you are referring here.

Kukkal is situated after Mannavanur while trekking from Berijam. There's beautiful Kukkal lake and is recognized for eco-system which is beautiful and preserved since it is accessible only with Forest Dept. permission.

Yes, it is a very dense forest that even the sunlight can't perforate. I saw a board stating that ppl will get mental disorder if entered that specific forest! Hence the name "Mathi-Kettan" lol Also heard from the guards that many foreign tourists who infiltrated had never returned!

Been there till Berijam lake but not to Kukkal as had no time. kukkal is just about 40kms from berijam lake and it was a serene place. The Forest Dept. has restricted entry to Berijam Lake area between 9.30 a.m. and 3 p.m.

ISG2G team has come up with an option either to have the meet in Ooty or Valparai. Thinking practically Coorg/Chikmagalur might to be very difficult for KL boys esp TVM to do 700kms in a day. CBE guys might not be in favor of Ooty and also Chennai group had been there at least once.

Interested riders, kindly share your thoughts if we can consider Valparai option.

The most recent feedback about valparai from MG was most of the not so visited sight seeing places are closed for public.
I am not much intereseted in valparai and also not against the decision. It's sure has an absolute tarmac and bliss to ride polachi-aliyar-valparai. Corner maniacs will be delighted with the ~48 hairpin bends.

Adding to that i also heard from some locals. At first hand Valparai did not have as much options to see like ooty or munnar. Now the very few places which were the top spots are falling into the anaimalai tiger reserve. So entry into them is banned! Though 'bribe' is always there, it cannot be fruitful for such a huge group. . Only place that still continues to be the 'destination' in valparai is the Valparai- athirampally forest route. Anyway I am happy that valparai is out of the poll!

I would be interested in zeroing to Chikmagalur dist as it has various places to look around like kemmangudi, Hebbe falls, kudremukh, Mullainagiri instead of so commercialized polluted Ootacamund. Am open to The Scotland of India too. Bulls eye on the date now!
