My bike performed splendidly, doing about 100-120kmph, giving about 30-40kmpl and 6 punctures !
Thumbs Up if this is your first Loooong ride, but I must say you showed some guts by taking up such a long ride - solo !!! Having said that I must compliment your patience and optimistic attitude where in spite of 6 Puncture you actually enjoyed the whole ride. But again I must suggest you to carry a cam next time you ride as its a good habit of taking atleast few snaps which might be helpful reminding you of those good times and places.

But IMHO, I feel its better to get accompanied by other experience rider when you are an amateur as a tourer and doing long rides which include unknown higways/stateways and night riding.

On another note - You may not be good at putting words together but you don't need a 'cleanest' writing skills to share you experience which might be a good learning lessons to all of us !!!

Avinashi sector is still undergoing road construction; best & shortest way to take will be...

        Chennai - Chengalpet - Tindivanam - Villupuram - Ulundurpet - Kallakurichi - Attur - Vazhapadi - Salem - Sangagiri - Erode - Avinashi - Coimbatore.

+1; enjoyed or not, I certainly respect that patience of yours to keep going with those many punctures.

              • Best route to Yercaud from Chennai?

                Hi,

Which is the best route for Yercaud from Chennai?
                1. Chennai - Chengalpattu - Tindivanam - Villipuram - Attur - Salem - Yercaud
                or
                2. Chennai - Vellore - Krishnagiri - Dharmapuri - Yercaud

I don't mind riding 50 km extra, but I want to know which route will be more fun to ride along?

                Thanks

                  Define fun

Both are highways & you know as always highways are no fun, atleast to me, just they're good for high speed riding & munch miles & good for endurance.

Though I don't know the route condition (which I don't expect anything better) want to try this - Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India to Yercaud, Tamil Nadu, India - Google Maps

Onward through, Route 1 and return through Route 2 covering Yelagiri on Day2 will be a better plan if you wish..

Like start by 4AM from chennai ,reach Yelagiri by 11AM max ,relaxed ride at 70-80kmph..,
Enjoy the Day 1 at Yercaud and halt for the night, next day start early and reach Yelagiri by 9am,start by 3pm and reach chennai by 8-pm...

This time I'm 90% out of ride...

or skip Yelagiri and ride through Route2 on Day2...

If only riding is there on Day2,then consider Yercaud-Tirupattur-Jawadhu Hill(Jamuamarathur)-Polur-Vandavasi-Maduranthagam(Decide ECR or NH45)-Chennai

                      The route looks promising.
Fun for me are twisties. I've heard that there are a few hairpin bends near yercaud. But, not sure on which route?

Dude, please make that 10% into 100%... Its a ~700-750 kms trip and doing it alone is a bit risky! Though, I'll continue no matter what, but its always nice to have company. Moreover, I'd a blast last time...

aargee the route you suggested is better than this route-->Chennai-Vellore-Krishnagiri-dharmapuri-Salem-Avinashi-coimbatore???

And i know that this route will require to much additional 30km but i want to know whether the route suggested by you is better than this.
Coz i did a round trip Chennai-Bangalore-Salem and the roads were so nice but boring. After couple of weeks me too will ride to coimbatore so just want to know the best route.

The only thing is how we reach Salem.. As you said it's a boring Chennai-Bangalore highway..
That's why ,my preference is also Chennai-Ulundurpet-Attur-Salem.,
After Attur, there will be lot of diversions and at some places traffic will be on one lane due to incomplete Highway works here and there..,

But you'll enjoy this route more than Chennai-Vellore-Dharmapuri...

                          Ride safe.

Okay, educate me on how to avoid punctures. No joking/sarcasm, I would honestly like to know.

On a good smooth highway, you seldom find nails; atleast not in the 22.7K odd kms on my CBR. Its either on the two lane roads, pot holed or offroading where one is more prone for punctures. Pot holed roads, I haven't rode beyond 80, offroading...needless to say But again, 6 punctures are quite unheard, attribute to ill luck like I said before.

If one puncture can happen so can six. I did do some offroading between Mysore and Ooty. I was thinking it was some divine sign god was sending me to cancel my trip or slow down. I went ahead anyway did waste a couple of hours at puncture shops but all worth it.

Then, should Hayabusa or car tires should be flat the moment it comes out of garage or what

Hahaha.. No idea, this is what was discussed in the forum. Its a common problem with FZ rear tyre though.

Yes saar, we do, just like you do

This isnt my first ride, did a 500kms solo ride before plus ride with Chennai xbhp all the time, I like solo rides more though, just you and the road nothing like it. I filled air in Mysore with a couple of PSIs extra reached Ooty to see 20 in front and 25 in rear lol again filled air in Ooty and came back to Mysore to repair the next day. Filling air was like twisting the throttle in this trip.

I had a mobile cam, but the settings got messed up and the pictures are all small. I do have a couple of pix. This pic was taken by a tea shop guy. Must say he caught on fast about photography.

As long as you know what you are doing and have taken all precautions necessary I dont see the point of hand holding. Either you should be ready or confident enough to face challenges, even experienced riders started as amateurs ! Plus the route taken by me is time tested, a trucker even offered to transport my bike to the nearest puncture shop to get it repaired, i politely declined as I had just passed a puncture shops a 100 or so metres ago. The only stretch that was kind of hair raising was Mysore - Ooty, the hairpin bends, traffic, riding through reserved forest in pitch darkness and offroading.

Will try putting up a triplog soon. Thanks for the motivation, even my friends want it up as they cant believe someone will be so stupid to do such a long ride on a bike and alone lol

haha.. I left it in Mysore, i stayed in Mysore/Bangalore for 2days with friends. Ooty is only about 150kms from Mysore.. Why do I need bag for that? Bag had nothing, just a netbook(since I was working from home ), tshirt, jeans and some consumables. I've no pix of my bag. It just ruins the shot.
