Guys,
I am planning a few things for Bruna. List is below.
1. Xena Disk Brake Locks.
2. Thin Film cover for Fairing
3. Small Convex mirrors(like in car rear view mirrors to avoid blind spots)
4. Teflon Coating.
Regarding these, what exactly is teflon coating? I used to drive before I became a rider, and before we got the car, we gave it for teflon coating in the underbelly of car. And when we got the car, I saw underneath, it was all black. So I assumed teflon coating meant blackening of metal areas to prevent dust from road and rust to settle in. But people told me we do teflon coating on the fairing of bikes. If so, what is teflon coating? Is it just another polish thingy?
And is it better to get Xena disk locks from abroad? Is the higher price in India justified?
Besides this, is there anything more that I should be looking into for keeping Bruna in pristine condition? Maybe Ninja owners can comments something?
Is there any specific wax/polish you want me to get from abroad(specifically speaking, Saudi Arabia, not US as my friend can bring only limited stuffs from US).?
And do we get this thin film to be fixed over fairings from India itself? Any specific websites in US you want me to order from, so my friend can get it from there?
Any help would be great in this regard, as I am in a hurry.
And see you guys on Sat/Sun!!!

Teflon coating is a rip-off. Its a coat of clear film sprayed onto the painted surface to resist scratches, paint dullness and paint damage due to bird poop. Costs quite a bit and doesn't actually do the job as well as it is described to do.Originally posted by ajaymanohar View PostGuys,

Wax polish will retain the shine and gloss and finish on your paint job better than the teflon coat, trust me
The coating on the underbelly of the car is a rubber anti corrosion coating to prevent rust. Its not teflon coating.
Best wax polish would be the Meguiars. Costs a bomb but worth every molecule that you paid for. Also buy the clay bar, mitts, chamois, scratch remover (swirl mark remover), microfiber cloth, etc. Next in line would be Turtle Wax.
Xena is not available here in India AFAIK. You have to order from ebay.com
You can get paint protection film or carbon fiber sheets for stickering the fairing and other scratch prone areas at JC road. I'll take you there over the weekend if you want. There is a shop i know that does a good job.Last edited by n_aditya; 05-05-2011, 11:25 AM.ATGATT - Because hospital ceilings are boring !!!

Those in bold, what is the use of them? Chamois leather I have used for my car, its that leathery cloth that turns like a soapy cloth as it absorbs the moisture when u dry the washed car/bike right? Its helpful in removing water and drying easily right?
What is the microfiber cloth then?
What are the other things you mentioned? The reason I am asking details is because I need to convey the same to my dad. He will get it.
If not Meguairs, then what other compounds/brands should I use? Turtle wax we get in India right?
And scratch remover, well I remember a TV Shoppe ad, something like a marker, that u need to rub over the scratch and presto it vanishes(not really, it thins the paint surrounding areas to get a even scratch free look).
And what about shampoo? People advised me to use simple hair shampoo diluted with loads of water for washing. Is it good practice?

A clay bar is used for detailing the paint finish and helps in removing deposits on the paint. It also helps in making the wax polish job easier. The swirl marks remover will remove the circular scratches which are caused due to an abrasive cloth.Originally posted by ajaymanohar View PostWow, that was fast. Thanks a lot adi. Microfiber cloth is used to buff the painted area after a coat of wax polish is applied. This is highly recommended as it wont scratch the paint. Chamois is used to dry the bike without damaging the painted surface. Absorbs a lot of water... a lot really. Once you use it, you wont use a cloth ever to dry the vehicle
Meguiars is the best in detailing industry. see this - Car Care Products: Car Waxes to Leather Cleaners, Meguiar's the Leader in Car and Surface Care since 1901
Next comes Turtle Wax. I can help you with Turtle Wax products such as polish, chamois, microfiber cloth (mitt is almost the same but softer and provides a superb buffing action), shampoo etc. A friend of mine has a shop near Indranagar (i have posted his details on the ninja thread, you might have to search for it).
Never use hair shampoo as it has detergents that can dull the paint over time. I use ArmorAll wash and wax shampoo which has genuine carnauba wax (carnauba wax is the best wax in the world and is a natural product derived from a specific tree in South America).
This wash-n-wax does a superb job of not only cleaning the surface of the painted areas but also provides a long lasting shine. You dont have to wax the bike after this for months (but if need be, you can still wax the bike).
Dont ever use the magic pen that is advertised on TV. Its mostly a clear coat paint but its not as easy and as effective as it looks. Have tried on my car and it doesn't work even half as good as on TV.
Ride with us on the weekend and i'll explain more to you. I'll take you to the shop where all these turtle wax products are available.Last edited by n_aditya; 05-05-2011, 12:48 PM.ATGATT - Because hospital ceilings are boring !!!

IIRC the S is for stainless steel. There is no difference between the SS one and the Yellow one. Only the color and finish varies. The only probable issue with the yellow would be paint chipping off with regular use which wont happen with the stainless steel one.Originally posted by sudeepnbr View PostI had checked in eBay.com. Looks like this weekend we will be going for a shopping ride

!!
Adi, thanks a ton for that info, I have forwarded the info to my dad. Hope some of the things are also available there. The chamois leather he got me from there was awesome. I tried for the same here in Bangalore, no luck, mostly inferior stuff. Sure thing, lets all ride to this shop of yours. Hopefully we all might purchase something...

LOL. Its not my shop. The owner is a good friend and a member on a popular car forum and his specialty is car audio and car accessories.Originally posted by ajaymanohar View PostLooks like this weekend we will be going for a shopping ride

Will take you guys to the shop on Sunday after our ride. Prices are not very high too.
Turtle Wax Super Hard Shell Wax Polish - 240 bucks for a tin
Turtle Wax set of 3 microfiber cloths - 560/-
ArmorAll wash n wax - 350 something bucks for 475 ml (it has lasted me for over a year and i have few more washes to go before i buy another bottle... and i wash my bike every time i return from a ride)
Chamois Leather - 250 bucks
If you can get Meguiars, nothing like it. But only the wax polish tin will cost Rs. 1000/- Clay bars etc. are very expensive but these are a detailers delight. You get them here but lots of fakes in the market so its easy to get conned.
