If you are referring to Bangalore Bikers ride on 7th, then as policy of BB, one should be a registered member to join for rides. (I know you are a memberOriginally posted by Divya Sharan View PostThere's a ride to Yelagiri hills on April 7th. Try to join in.

Need Help from fellow Bikers
Hello Mates,
I hail from pune & am not a very active member of x-bhp(or any other site) due to office timings
Need you people's help for a ride.
I am planning to ride from Pune to Bangalore & then to Hassan(will this be shorter distance or is there any alternate way to Hassan?).
Need your inputs on road conditions & best routes to take.
Never been to Karnataka before, had been to Hubli but that was long time back.
Also would like to know if anybody here from Malnad College of Engineering in Hassan?? If yes, please PM me need some info from you
Regards,
Ride Safe.

You needn't ride all the way to Bangalore if you have to get to Hassan. There are direct routes from Pune. Consider riding through Chikmagalur. It should be a lil on the way for you. Very scenic but current road conditions am not aware though..Originally posted by Fear_The_White_Menace View PostHello Mates,

There aren't any known anti-social elements on the routes like naxals etc, but then with every night drive/ride the element uncertainty is always there. Plus since you don't know the roads, it will be easy to get lost on those narrow state highways!Originally posted by Fear_The_White_Menace View PostHello Maxzma,

The least confusing route would be Pune - Sira - Banawara - Belur - HassanLast edited by Praful; 03-14-2013, 04:17 PM._________________________

Took this route last around 6 months back. As of then the conditions..Originally posted by ramalochan View Postcan i know the status of the road. is it fine or some road widening is happening over in this route.
Bangalore - Tumkur - 4 lanes so no worries
Tumkur - Banavara - Initially some diversions and construction for a few kms. After that superb quality 2 lane roads without much traffic. You will pass through some villages. Be lil careful there
Banavara - Chikmagalur - Have never taken this road to reach Chikmagalur. So cannot comment. Once it was through Banavara-Halebeedu-Belur-Chikmagalur more than a year back. Roads were bad! Once it was through Banavara-Tarikere-Chikmagalur. Ok quality roads but very scenic. Heard from a friend who went a couple of months back that this road was closed for construction.
Chikmagalur - Belur - Again brilliant 2 lane roads
Belur - Hassan - Little wider than the regular 2 lane roads. Very nice and tempting to ride on without much traffic. Keep an eye out for a few speed breakers which come unannounced!
Hassan - Bangalore - Few kms of 2 lanes. Then construction was on for some more. Then boring 4 lanes all the way to Bangalore!
I suggested this route because it'll be scenic. If you are riding at night it is better to stick to the highways.Originally posted by Fear_The_White_Menace View PostHello Maxzma,

I will also suggest the same route as outlined by Praful. Reason being I know for a fact that from Pune to Sira the road is superb, no worries anywhere at all, did this two days back (in a volvo) while coming from Bombay to Bglr. Secondly since you want to travel at night time then this route will be 1) least confusing and 2) relatively safest and fastest. The route is also lined by most number of sign boards with reflective writing in English (elsewhere in K'taka many boards often are written only in Kannada so they aren't much help at all). You will probably see at least 10-15 volvos doing the same run and that is always comforting. Best thing to do will be to simply choose your desired volvo and tail it 50m behind, works pretty neatly once you settle into a rhythm.Originally posted by Fear_The_White_Menace View PostHello Mates,

Further going in from Sira I am not sure about the road condition but in general the road quality everywhere in K'taka is miles ahead of anywhere in Maharashtra so you should not worry much. You can turn for Hassan from Halebeedu, road from Halebeedu to Hassan was slightly bad last time I had been there (last August, in car) and so expect it to be just as bad now as well.
Both Belur and Halebeedu are prominent tourist destinations so you should find sign boards in English.---

Regarding buses, can't help much man..! Hope fully someone else will pitch in.Originally posted by Fear_The_White_Menace View PostHmm.. Got good suggestions

However as far as buses are concerned nothing beats the raw speed and comfort of a Volvo. I was once in a Volvo which covered Bombay to Bglr in 13 hours flat with one 20 min dinner break, average time though is 16 hours (14 hours for Pune). It was mad! Unfortunately you can only board Volvos from Bangalore, Davangere (for VRL generally) or Hubli (many but not all travels), so that complicates things. Not really sure what your options are apart from state transport. Am pretty sure there won't be any direct buses which ply the Hassan Pune route, redbus doesn't seem to have that, so mostly you will have to take atleast 2 buses.
So worst case scenario, take Hassan bangalore state transport bus, then take volvo to pune. If you are feeling adventurous, take Hassan Mangalore state transport bus then take volvo to pune... basically whatever works cause YMMV..!!
Cheers!!
