Yeah, X1 is a nice phone but at Rs. 40k +, I don't recommend it to anyone. I mean, NOT because it's expensive but because the features are low, compared to the price. It's NOT Value for money by any Angle!

I recommend these, for the features you need :--

Samsung i900 Omnia:-- (5 MP Autofocus Camera, Touchscreen, Good audio quality, 32 GB Memory, Windows Mobile, GPS, WiFi, etc.)

Samsung INNOV8:-- (8 MP Autofocus Camera, Excellent Audio Quality, 32 GB Memory, Symbian OS, GPS, WiFi, etc.)

Omnia is about 39,000 and INNOV8 is about 45,000. Both are better than Xperia in every way. 32 GB memory means you can store 8000 songs on them both.

The 8 Megapixel Cam of INNOV8 matches Digital Cameras in terms of picture quality ... You can search on Internet and compare these 3 sets & you will know...

Despite my experience at Mobile Sites as MOD, I can't find one reason to specially purchase Xperia at that price ...

There are some reasons that make me feel that X1 is the best choice for me. I need a phone with a good web browser, large screen+touch interface, large storage, GPS, QWERTY keyboard, good audio quality, 3.5mm jack.

            I had shortlisted some models-
HTC Pro - Good Phone. Fulfill all requirements but sound quality is not that good and doesnt have 3.5mm jack
HTC Diamond - same as htc pro but without QWERTY keyboard.
iPhone 3G - Good Sound, good screen but lacks in basic phone features(I know the can be obtained by additional apps) and doesnt have QWERTY keyboard.
i900 - No QWERTY keyboard, no 3.5mm jack.
INNOV8 - This was the shortlisted model but saw after samarth referred. This phone doesnt have a QWERTY keyboard and didnt like the looks but still great phone.

I am a Sony Ericsson user since many years(T230 for a year then W810 for more than 2years and am still using) so I am more familiar with SE phones. X1 has got all the things that I need so it is a perfect combo for me. X1's build quality is just great. It feels very rigid. The only cons that I have heard about X1 are that it is overpriced(right price according to me is 30-35k) and is a bit laggy.

Firstly, in iPhone you can't install any additional apps to help you ... For your features list, you should wait for Nokia N97 ... It has everything you need now, and Nokias are competitively priced now-a-days (exception- N96).

In fact, it has possibility for 48 GB Memory! Please see it's features list and let me know :-->

Nokia N97 - Full phone specifications

and Nokia will price it better I suppose ... you should have told you needs earlier, I would have suggested accordingly, like I did now!

In any case (even if you take X1), you should wait for some time like 2-3 months. Mobiles' Prices will decrease very soon I warn, due to various "market" reasons!

              • @ samarth. The only problem I find in N97 is that they are still giving S60 for such a great hardware but still I consider this model before making the final decision. Also I didnt mention that I am going to buy the phone after 2 months so X1's price will also drop till then.

@all anyone who has used an X1?

                Thanks.

                • @DriftKing: Am close to buying one when am back home. I'm a big SE nut, and can't wait to buy it. Although I am having a few doubts about getting it now when the price is steep. Couple of months later, it'd have dropped by around 5% or so, I'm sure!

                      • Guys going awry about the iPhone and the phones with great gigs of memory some pointers for you to ponder about

                        1) With great powers comes great responsibilities...:
With all that storage, you get free issues
                        - the Symbian OS S60 v3 is not 'smart' enough to manage that much of data... throw in a 1000 msgs and watch the OS slow down in trying to index your data!
                        - Windows Mobile platform... Duh you cant blame it... its winDOZE... wait for windows 7, thats a completely redeisnged OS made for mobile

                        2) The camera Megapixel myth:
The more the better... Bull crap! Most cameras do a very shoddy job, thanks to thier default picture settings... personal opinion.. go for a mobile which has offeres you features that you are likely to use!

                        3) What good is a phone that cant do well what its supposed to do
Some smart a55 once said that the mobiles would kill the mp3 players and the cameras in the distant future... having said that basic features like calls, msgs, mails have become synonym with a phone... however the badly designed and memory loaded battery intensive applications are drianing the juice of the cell like nobodys business...!
Its killing your ability to use the phone as a 'phone'

PS: You can add a lot of apps in the iPhone, officially via iTunes or unofficially by Jailbreaking it

BTW I am a SE fanboy too, but currenlty using a HTC TYTN2 with decent enough cameras for those 'special' surprises in life... and an iPod touch/classic/nano (depending on what I am doing) for listening to music

The X1 is also made by HTC for SE and is the continuation of the same TYTN form

                        • @ Satyenpoojary: I would like to assist you in breaking some myths, if you allow. My say on your points :-->

                          1. After having used some 8 GB Sets, I'll disagree to this fact. You say 1000 messages, I say make it 2000+ and still OS will be fast, provided Apps are not too many in number.

Much now depends upon Processor & RAM. Moreover, Symbian OS v.9+ has been updated almost 4-5 times. These issues are gone. Do handle a Firmware updated N81 or N79 and you'll notice the Service Pack Changes made to Symbian.

                          2. 100% True .. To others: Megapixel is Just a level of Size & Detail. It has NOTHING to do with image quality, brightness & contrast...

                          3. True to some extent. Well, I have an N91 and yes, Battery Life is low @ about 1-2 days. But, with better audio quality than some MP3 Players, I have a nice time when I'm alone. and I come home every night & charge it regularly ... So, battery hardly matters.

Reg. Phone Apps, they are under my control. So, no problem there ... From my experience I say, World's best Music Player CAN be in a Mobile (in fact, already is) ... But, World's best Camera CANNOT!

Woah ... disagree to a fact... lolz! Brilliant!
                            Nevertheless,
I have been using the Nokia N & the E series for a decent while before this, then finally moved to blackberry which is by far the best business phone i have ever used... and the best mp3 player setup that i already spoke about ensured that the n93 (and n95 fk i made the same mistake twice ) would rest in piece... as a paperweight .

The problem is simple most of theses OS were never designed to run on those hardware platforms... which is why certain OS appear snappy as the developers knew precisely what goes in from a hardware point of view... (read iPhone, BB, to an extent SE)

A lot of these generic OS... read windows mobile and Symbian, because of their closed source stature becomes extremely painful....

That leaves the Hardware superiority argument down in dumps... if it doesnt then read these:

Driver trouble makes angry mobile owners rush castle HTC with burning torches - Engadget Mobile

For the people working at HTC - xda-developers

This is the phone that I have bought despite knowing the fact that though it comes with one of the best processors etc, it sucks because of the lack of an OS designed for it.....

Then Why Did I buy it

Waiting for Android to hit the market.... a open source software will mean two things
                            1) A device customized by the brilliance of a community...
                            2) Closed source software producers will become more focused for different hardware platforms.... (hopefully)

                              let's get some things clear

                              1. yes, it is a SE phone
                              2. It does not run Symbian + UIQ3 or the native OS that T230 or W810 uses.
                              3. It runs windows (6.1 I guess)

So it will be laggy as all windows phones are and the xperia shares nothing in common with the previous SE phones. I suggest a UIQ3.x phone.
