Oh yeah, reagrding your yardsticks.. Pulsar is more into creating categories rather than competing with existing ones. Perhaps you remember when P150 came in it did wipe out competition, but for bikes such as P135LS/P200NS there is no competition as they are unique. On price, you may end up comparing with some bikes, but on performance you again need to look for a different set for comparision.

Do you remember, when Bajaj first acquired stake in KTM back in 2008 or was it 2007, immediately they displayed Race & Stunt concepts based on 125cc engine, you think KTM developed them just like that? those were completely developed by Bajaj. Once they entered into a binding agreement, these products got push and they decided to develop bikes on this platform, when I say platform i'm talking about engine. Of course the chasis/frame used in Duke are from KTM, but in Pulsar Chasis/frame are different to that used in Duke. So, they share basic engine block, head is apparently different in both bikes and probably transmission.Originally posted by HarishK View Post

@HarishK
u still not getting it.
P135 and P200 are different segments altogether. What didn't work for one might not be the case for other.
Moreover, i feel, P135 was too good/sporty for the avg commuter and a bit less appealing for we enthusiasts. Again im not saying tat P135 did not do well in the market.
Anyway, let's wait and see how P200 fares

Okay, use your accurate Yardstick and tell me what are the bikes that fall in the same segment as P200NS?Originally posted by niranjanvaidya View PostThank goodness, none of these companies have product advisers like you.
FZ and the P135 fall in different segments although the power figures have a different story to tell.
Going by your yardstick, the Honda Dazzler and other 150 CC contenders are totally useless since the FZ rules this segment with it's variants.
Any why is Mr Bajaj announcing that the new P200NS will compete with R15 and CBR250? Hope they are all in different segments?
The point is, even with those breath taking pricing/power/mileage figure on papers the P135 was merely like another XCD135 in market.
Lets see how the P200 sustains.

Looks like a lot of folks don't know this.
Bajaj owns a big chunk of KTM.
Bajaj is bigger than KTM. Bajaj earns more than KTM. Bajaj sells more than KTM. Bajaj > KTM.
Bajaj put millions of dollars in KTM. It's because of bajaj, ktm has class leading products such as Duke 125 and 200 (who initially started as stunt 125 and race 125 on paper).
Lol People think of this as Hero and honda relationship. Hero is not the owner Honda. But Bajaj IS one of the owner of KTM. Bajaj put a millions of dollars in KTM and in trade they are getting tech and know how, nothing unfair.
Apple sources most of the components from Samsung and LG. Dell uses hard disks from seagates. Tata safari feature digital clock which is mainly made by Samsung. Asus graphics cards use chipsets from nVidia and AMD. German Skoda and VW imports CKD from Mexico and sell them here as German cars. All BMW Bikes use gear bikes which is made by Hero Moto Corp. Corollas and Almost all other old Jap cars started their life by reverse engineering German/europium cars. Intel used AMD chipsets and sold as Geniune Intel mobo. All apachi engines are suzuki fiero at the core. All use bearings from SKF. Motorola sources display from Samsung.
Nobody in this world makes products from ground up. Most of the times companies are dependent on competating companies for raw parts. It was like in 2000 AD they used to make products from scratch.
It's just pure business. Here I'm not a fan of Bajaj's but a rational person.
@sefanm: get the facts right before posting rubbish. Keep the quality of forum.
Looks like we have too many minors between us.

Apart from the engine head everything below is the same as the KTM, including the block, bottom end and transmission. Even the oversquare bore stroke ratio is the same as that on the KTM.
Pulsar makes these power and torque ratings with a three spark plug configuration when the KTM uses just one.
Moreover there is a bike called Pulsar 135 - World's 1st 4 Valve DTSi bike, 68.1 km/l certified by ARAI.
With 13.5hp @ 9000RPM it did outperform most of the 150CC bikes which includes the FZ16. But practically did it make any sensation? I dont think any potential FZ buyer would have ended up with P135. It even failed to make an impact on 125CCs Sales chart, still the 8yr Honda Shine 125CC is the best seller in its class.
NS looks perfect on papers, like the P135 did, Not sure how the NS would steal the market.
It would be better if Bajaj makes their Pulsar product line a Static one like Honda, Yamaha, than dynamic.

Some folks said that it follows KTM design-line which I again have failed to see. When spy pictures came in I suspected it was gonna be another ugly looking BMW. Bajaj surprised the hell out of me.
Look at the tank and engine bay it looks like the pulsar was inspired by not a certain BMW but by naked BMW mortared product line in general.
I'd say 200NS is a better looking BMW. It's a very lovely design. More I watch it more I fall deeply in love with it.
I think you are talking about CB 1000 R or any smaller hornet kids.
Probably not CBR 1000RR.

About p200 NS:
Business is business, when you have something good in hands (D200-read that 40% of KTM is owned by bajaj and D 125,200 is co developed with bajaj) why should they waste time effort and money to climb all the steps again?(like going back stone age and inventing a wheel again
)?
Everybody says everything is same as duke 200, but:
Engine head, both suspensions, brakes, wheels, rubber, and most importantly the frame are different(forget the cosmetics and lamps)
Indian automotive manufacturing dont have the history or heritage that germany or japan have, so dont expect Bajaj, Hero or TVS coming up with
an all new type of frame or any other major engineering.
Unless Yamaha made R15 and FZ 16 Indian bike industry may still have lived with pathetic flexible frames and excessive weight.(if there was no competition why should indian companies push themselves?)
I am expecting some nice stuff from TVS and Mahendra as well. However no hope in Hero, (may be an impulse++ with 16.5 hp detuned motor from karizma)
Now on p135 LS:
P 135 is not only good on paper but on sales and performance on real world.
and it will not fit in 150 class, thats why p 150 co-exists(that is how indian buyer's mind set is)
and the shine is for another kind of people altogether.
Any way we are getting better bikes.. what is next? Apache 250? p250 ? R25?

Ok, so Duke & Pulsar share basic engine block & transmission. Why should it be a problem? Yamaha is using same engine/transmission in umpteen models, so is Honda. You wanted Bajaj to be like Honda & Yamaha and don't want them to share even a bolt with KTM?? Why do you bother about it as long as you get good VFM products with cool pricing? After all, most of the work on Duke is done by Bajaj's R&D, remember it's co-developed.Originally posted by HarishK View Post+100 to that,

So, selling 30k units per month is not a sensation according to you
, by the way how much does FZ sell, you got any number? not even 10k per month. A product's success is based on it's own sales, not on whether other product's sales are affected or not.
