The figures are in mph and not kms. You should select the metric system from settings in the tool bar. It will give figures in kms.Originally posted by shv18 View PostOnly a biker knows why a dog sticks his head out of a car window.

Well: these are the (poor) results on a stock bike. We all know this bike is grossly underpowered, to a level I cannot understand, actually. "Lord of the bicycle lane" would be more appropriate!
When will be the (long promised.....) ones on a (nearly) fully "Joelled" bike??? I am really curious to see what objective figure you come with, and will try - not so "scientifically"! - to get similar comparison figures with my 205cc. bike. It is a shame that Mad Mik has not only diseappeared from here since he now has a much more exciting Ducati Monstro, although his extremely strange public aggression against me and my mechanic (that he does not even know) has made his presence not that desirable as far as I am concerned. Would not that be, it would have been even more interesting to add to the "super tuned" FZs his one, with bigger valves and carb, and his videos with his Go-pro camera.
However, I promise I shall try to get as good as possible measurements done. Top speed: maybe not (where???) but at least 200m, 400 m and 0-100 kmh. timings.
Hope to SQUASH you down
!!!
When I do something stupid, my consolation is to know that I'll do the worse one only once!

I cannot help but agree with you. The stock engine simply doesn't do any justice to the looks of this bike. And no i am not just talking about me and a few bunch of eccentric kids going crazy over hot roding it.. in general people have the same perception about this bike. I believe a 180-200cc mill will do justice. May be when Yamaha is bored of sticking new coloured panels and vinyls they may consider going for a major upgrade. They already have the recipe just need to add the major ingredient that's all!!
Well my friend i am trying to finish off my work asap.. Get the greens and start off right away!!

Would request both of you gentlemen not to start a flame war on this thread. If there is anything, any misunderstanding then please do settle it by PMs or outside this thread.
Anyways more or less my dates for starting the build are set. Just that since, a few days I have been busy. Now I am shamelessly changing my sides from bikes to supercars. :P
Will be busy giving company to Lambo, Ferrari's, astons and others in an upcoming event in organised by Cannonball supercar club in blore this Sunday. And no I ain't the lucky rich kid to own one (Baah I wish!!). Just me, a bunch of friends enjoying the deafening musical opera to be performed by V8's and V12's
Once I am back the build will start. So finally after almost a year of prep and planning and anxious waiting, the birth of Fz-X shall take place. All the ingredients, parts and technician are in place.. So stay tuned folks.

Unfortunate that I have to delete the posts of two members who have contributed a lot of information on this forum. Please do not indulge in pointless negative arguments.
ThanksBiking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

Hi Luke/Shv18/Johnmao,
If you remove the camshaft from the equation. How would you rate the big bore kit from Joel (Race Concepts).
A carb without TPS also seems unreliable.
Any inputs / Advice ?

With the camshaft out of the picture.. You will still get the power however the way it gets deliver to your bike will be different. Th mild lift cam does what it promises.. Giving you a surge from 3k till redline however at the expense of the annoying clicking noise that everyone has reported on other threads so far.
I am yet to get a first hand experience of the noise myself in a few days so shall give out my report along with the pics on the build and how we went by it step by step. So if you can wait a teeny weeny bit you shall get my experience mentioned on this thread. Now that i have an access to prosumer video camera, i can shoot and provide you a recorded video of the same describing what exactly is this so called clicking noise. Although i hope that i am not one of the guys who has to go through it :P. Frankly all i care about is more power at my disposal if i want the speedo needle crossing 120 kmph easily without so much struggle a stock bike has to go through.
@PSR: as always Psr ji many thanks for being supportive and contributing so much to xbhp.

Ride report
Hi folks,
My bike with the BB kit has completed ONLY 2000 km till now partly owing to my bad health which will be like that for the
foreseeable future. So the reason for not riding would always be this same thing.
Ok now earlier I put the P180 jet kit consisting of pilot jet 17.5 and main jet 117.5 in the BS29 carb.
The idle rpm was kept between 1200-1400 rpm. The BS29 carb was set to 2.5 turns for the fuel screw.
After starting the engine for first time and the engine warmed up nicely then the engine dies.
Also riding some 20 km on highway the engine used to die when slowing at traffic lights.
Basically the engine wouldn't stay alive if I didn't keep the throttle blipping slightly.
So i replaced the pilot jet to 15 size and now the engine does not die when idling and it starts with one touch of a button.
Earlier with the 17.5 pilot jet it never started at first crank. The main jet is still 117.5 and now i take her out for a spin.
After a ride of about 20km on the same highway and traffic signal I slow down, then the engine dies again.
All this time the engine stutters while riding above 4k rpm as if its flooding or choking. Dont know exactly.
So now I have again changed the main jet to size of 115 and now there is heavy loss of power but it does not die anymore.
Even if i ride for about 20km or 50km. It starts at the first crank and idles after proper warm up and also does not
die when I stop at a traffic signal after riding for 20km on the same highway. But now it makes a popping sound
while decelerating.
Now the engine is 'running' fine but with a lot less power and after all this trial and error I am still at a loss to understand
what to do to get power from the engine and also keep it from dying on me at the traffic signals.
I would really appreciate if you senior guys help me with your suggestions. Thanks.
cheers...

^^If you're running a high lift camshaft, the solution I've been using for a long time now is to run a higher idle, mine runs between 1600-1900 rpm on my R15, this is due (IMO) to the lumpy idle that you get on most high lift cams.Beware of Bread, don't say I didn't warn you!
More than 98 percent of convicted criminals are bread eaters !
Statistics show that more than 75 % of violent crimes are committed within 24 hours of eating bread !
Bread is known to be extremely addictive. Subjects deprived of bread and given only water, actually begged for bread after just two days !
Bread has been proven to kill. Scientists have now uncovered alarming evidence that 100% of the people who eat bread will eventually die !

Tried that too...kept the idle between 1600-1800 rpm. Even then the results were same.
Engine used to die after a short ride also.
Actually at the above rpm the engine braking reduces considerably. I dont know the technical reason but
the engine seems to be running on extra fuel or air with no braking at all.
I hope you are understanding what i am trying to convey here.
That is why I am seeking recourse here as to what needs to be done further and in what fashion.
Thanks really for you time and please continue your support.
cheers....

^^hmm, then just check the usual, spark plug for any fowling, check spark plug cap for proper connection (I was suffering cold start problems, the connector was a little loose from the HT wire, can also produce other symptoms) it's also worth changing this periodically along with the wire, air filter is clean?, check with Joel as well regarding which spark plug to use, he recommends for R15 to switch to CR9, this also helped with the stalling issues, if I recall correctly, just make sure the spark plug is the exact same size.Beware of Bread, don't say I didn't warn you!

Hi stefanm,Originally posted by stefanm View Post^^hmm, then just check the usual, spark plug for any fowling, check spark plug cap for proper connection (I was suffering cold start problems, the connector was a little loose from the HT wire, can also produce other symptoms) it's also worth changing this periodically along with the wire, air filter is clean?, check with Joel as well regarding which spark plug to use, he recommends for R15 to switch to CR9, this also helped with the stalling issues, if I recall correctly, just make sure the spark plug is the exact same size.
I checked the spark plug cable and connector along with the electrical.
The battery terminals have also been cleaned and air filter thoroughly cleaned including the AIS.
After you telling me i kept the idle at around 1600 rpm.
Now the thing is if i ride the bike above 5-6k rpm and then slow down at a traffic signal then it dies by rpm slowly coming down.
This is unlike the stock bike which used to idle at even higher rpm than usual.
But if i ride her below 5k rpm then engine does not die when slowing at traffic signals.
Is the main jet the culprit here for allowing more fuel and eventually making it stop???
But if that is so then i changed the main jet to size 115 from the above 117.5.
Now the bike is woefully underpowered. So I am totally confused with the engine behavior here.
And come on guys, I dont think stefanm is the only senior who is trying to help me out.
Where are you other people now when I see you active in other threads of the same sub-forum. I cant hijack other threads.
I am sure you guys have definitely come across similar situations.
Cheers...

There is another parallel thread started by me - There I have given my detailed ownership experience on the big-bore kit. Please do read and come back. I'll be answering you if you have any specific questions.
