That could be the reason why we'd like it to be priced less than 2 L.
A sec hand SBK for 3.5 lakhs !!! Where, when, how ??
But seriously, there will be SBKs for tat money but they'd at least be pre-2000 vintage! And that'd mean dated styling. Even now a days you can see 1990-00 CB400 et al, quoted for 4lakhs and all !!

Also in realistic terms there is still a difference between 2 lakhs and 3.5 lahks !! I know I can spend 2 but 3.5 will be overstretching it.

Also its like owning an elephant, we need to consider service/parts bills into the total cost of ownership.

The thing is, there will always be pple hu will only buy a super-600 bike and there will be pple hu will go for the Ninja. I only hope that there are enough numbers of both the types so that both the markets exist !!

Coz, seriously more that Ninja neeing India, India needs Ninja !!!

@mindgrinder - bout waiting to see how many pple actually buy her, we can always have an indication via a Poll ere on xBHP. Not a poll like, 'yes, i'd have bought a Ninja if I were to have 2.4 lakhs, but YES I'll buy one' !!

Kawasaki Ninja : Because lazy sunday afternoons should be despatched at 160 kmph!!!
Hyosung Aquila : Because sometimes you need to look cool while riding at 40 kmph and you can do that only on a cruiser !!!

        • With the skidding sales and dropping rankings, Baja better launch some good bikes this year if they have to even think of reclaiming their lost glory.

              • @sukant & bandhav : 3-3.5 L for a bike (600's), hard to find but yes possible if you look hard enough. And I hope you won't be assuming it will be in mint condition.

for eg. in 2007 jan/feb I had found a gsx600 for 3.5 , ok condition , done 40000+ on the odo(which wasnt working).and a fazer (semi fared) , running but not in good condition for 3L .both 2000/2001 models.didn't look at their papers so don't know if they were clean/good imports. It seemed as if the owners didn't keep them in good shape.

But the real question is , is the 250 R worth more than 2L ?

                  Yes it is!

Anything from 2-2.5L with pure Kwacker only parts and a decent service backup would be good deal!

Considering that it retails for 4.5K$!

But then who wouldn't want something a little cheaper!

+1. Lets reconsider the thinking here. It is a CBU that retails around Rs 205000 in Thailand. Wouldn't you expect it to be 2.5 when they bring it? Considering the YZF-R125 costs about the same, I think Ninja would be a really good deal at 2.5L.

                      • guys i have a doubt abut importing ninja as a cbu. AFAIK a bike under 800cc cant be sold through the CBU route .. this ninja is 250cc so unless the government has changed the law it cant be brought by bajaj through cbu . am i right.?

Irrespective of the fact what rumors suggest, i strongly believe Ninja will be brought through CKD route.

i agree with BANDHAV. it doesnt make sense what the bike india article says. it says it will be a CBU but also goes on to say it will be more than 2 lakhs . AFAIK a cbu will cost more than 3 lakhs due to duty( its 100+% isnt it.?).

I guess the worldwide production base for the Ninja 250 is Thighland (sic ) !! And thats where Bajaj plans to get the Ninja, from. India has a free trade agreement with Thailand and hence it can get the bike (CBU) at a lesser rate of 30% I believe.

But personally I'd like it to be a CBU (unless CKD knocks of a lots of money from the price), coz that way there will be less touching and fiddling by Baja mechs.
