Hi Shv18,

This is very impressive. Can you give more info on the wire and how did you make it or is it available somewhere. Also I need to connect the cable from the Negative of the battery to the RR box right?

I am planning to do this mod irrespective of there being no issues just as precaution and to enjoy the benefits as mentioned by you for better low end grunt.

Regards,

Hi,

please check the post : http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/general-...ml#post1168052 and subsequent posts after that. In order to keep it reader friendly, all details have been mentioned there in the simplest manner possible along with pics for reference. The wire gauge is 8 - 10 mm (inverter to battery wire) and battery crimps are available in any battery/inverter shop. Max cost 100 bucks, if soldered and weather protected then another 50 - 100 bucks that's all.

Cheers,
Planning to get this done tomorrow. Also wanted to try the rimula r4 but went to couple of shops in abs around my house in Mulund, Mumbai, no one stocks that oil, all have only advance and ultra. In a fix where to find this oil... Do you know any dealers in Mumbai

But my preference will be to use it in any Diesel/Petrol car engine no more than 5,000 Kms. Shv18's experience also suggests that at aprroximately 2,500kms in CBR and 4 K Kms in Car the R4 no longer keeps the engine smooth....Like I always say , no one lost an engine by replacing engine oil early or at less Kms than recommended...but had engine gumming and sticky internals due to prolonging the change interval.
The Shell R4 is a Mineral oil and there is no point in expecting it to perform like a FS..The R4 survives as it does and gives better performance mainly due to the increased presence of ZDDP....which over time and use gets used up in the engine, and engine roughness slowly starts to show....
So stick to 5,000 Kms change in Car engine and 2,500 Kms in a CBR250
Please do read up on using Diesel oils in both diesel and Petrol engines to get a perspective..as also the MSDS of R4
Just my thought.

Shell Rimula R4 exceeds the API CI-4 and ACEA E7 limits for piston ring and crosshead wear. In particular, it exceeds the crosshead wear of API CI-4 requirements by up to 50%.

Tata suggests API-CI4 drain interval at 10k km for sumo, indica ( all version) indigo as well.

I used mineral oil from Servo for my Sumo for the past 18 years at intervals of 10-15k kms. The 1998 model 1998cc engine still running at 1.08 lakh kms. Only problems I had was solenoid conking off and radiator leak, clutch change which is not dependent on engine oil usage AFAIK.

Hi shv18 / PSR,

So finally I got to complete this thread right from start to end. I must say, This thread is the most informative thread that I have seen till date. The way you have been explaining everything for your bike, mods - I can see that you are in love with the CBR.

I must say the CBR is in very good hands, from being with a person who neglected her to the person who is the best man to take care of her with the TLC that she needs. It reminds of the movie - Daraar - Where Juhi Chawla marries Rishi Kapoor after running away from Arbaaz Khan. Shv18 is Rishi kapoor here. No points for guessing.

I am interested in some of the mods that you have done and will be working on them for my CBR very soon. Due to office work and Ganpati Festival, I could not do the negative wire mod today, but will do it when I am able to get the Rimula R4 for my CBR so that the panels are not opened so many frequently. For the Yamaha FZ oil filter, do I need to tell them something specific and do I need to look out for something specific.

shv18 - where are you from and #PSR where are you from, would love to meet you guys in person and if you are not far away from Mumbai, I might just drop in to meet you guys.

shv18 - can you give me more details on the stintered Brembo disc pads as I might want to change over too. What's the price, where did you get it from?

Even on my CBR the front suspension is very soft and hence the number plate for hitting the front mudgaurd - so I did a desi jugad, heated the pipes and bend them a little so that it does not hit the fender any more.

I thought Shiv did say something about Pune. Though with the CBR Assam and Chennai is not that far off too.... Planning to anyways do the GQ next year so I might just drop in at both these places.

Age is just a number and many have proved it. You are also one of them.

I will certainly drop by when I am going through Chennai next year during my GQ.

Update:- I have done the following two mods on my Bike.

1. Shell Rimula R4 Oil added to my Bike. I was able to source the oil somehow from Shell today and went ahead with the change. I also used the FZ Oil filter instead of the OEM honda. When the oil was drained from my bike, even though its colour had not changed lot, It was very watery. I will check the oil after every few 100 kms to see if the life is not deteriorating. Will keep the thread updated with my findings too. I am also planning to use Rimula for atleast 2 oil changes as the Kms when I got my bike were only 4463. By the way the mechanic kept on insisting that this is diesel engine oil and I should not use it in Petrol Bike. I was stubborn.

2. Earthing wire. I was in search of a good quality wire for this and hence roamed many shops to see if there is something that's available off the shelf and of good quality what can work in the Battery Wire mod. Found this battery wire and used it.

I have not driven the bike much after this mod so cannot say anything right now, but I did notice that the knocking sound has reduced a lot. Will surely give my feedback later.

Hi all,
Had issues with coolant level dropping in my 5 month old cbr. Found that there was some white milky substance under the oil filler cap. So registered a complaint with Honda, they opened up the bike and found that water had entered the air filter. They told me that there was no sign of coolant leak and the water from air filter had caused this. So they flushed out the coolant, filled new and also replaced the oil. I got the bike today but i have told them that i will not declare the issue as solved for now and i will observe the level for 2 weeks. I have a doubt here, how can the water from air filter enter the crankcase and mix with the oil? Is it possible via the crankcase breather hose?

Good to know that you are doing the Earth wire mod.....for the wire itself , you can get it from any Electrical shop....ask for 10mm ,multistrand ,insulated wire and they will be able to give it. You need about 18 inches and you can buy 1 meter length and cut to your requirement. For the end fixing connections, you can buy the Pulsar Battery connection terminals and use it....With the Earth wire mod whether you see improvement or not, your future experience is safe ie., engine will not have sudden loss of performance, stalling, and refusing to start...Like I mentioned in earlier post this problem is common in bikes across most reputed manufacturers.
Good Luck.

Unless your bike stands unprotected from rain and there was heavy continuous rain ,and water level reaching upto Air filter level , there is no way you can get Water into the Air Filter...The other possibility is when the SVC uses High Pressure Water wash and inadvertently splash water into air filter inlet ,while spraying under Petrol Tank/ Seat...
Like you said water can enter crankcase through the breather.
SVC may be trying to side step the issue, and save themselves from a possible engine re-work/ replacement, if they are questioned by Honda.. I am guessing because from day one you had problem with reducing coolant level for which SVC or Honda has no answer. The fact that they ordered for the gasket kit from Honda and waited for it, speaks of their trouble shooting capability, if it was only water from Air Filter..
Let us hope they had fixed the problem and you start enjoying the ride...

Hi @sanjaynk15

Do check out the post of @Iam_Hoodi_CBR in the CBR 250R ownership thread: http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/motorcyc...ml#post1189181 The credit goes to this gentleman for explaining the issues he had to witness and how he managed to recover his bike from a catastrophic seizure due to a possible engine hydrolock given the circumstances he had to ride his bike through.

Coming back to your issue, have you recently had any such incident where you had to take your bike through knee deep water or even deeper flooded zones?? If not has your bike being pressure washed with the rider and pillion seat been taken off and then the cleaning guy happily did pressure/jet washing of the interiors?? When the SVC guys inform you of this situation, did you ask them to remove the air filter and show it to them if it was wet???

If none of the answers to these questions is "YES" then in my humble opinion, the culprit is most likely leaking cylinder head gasket. Please find below the following screen grabs explaining how the LC system works and a list of possible reasons behind coolant leakage/vanishing from your CBR as per the Honda's CBR 250R workshop manual:

Pic 1, 2 & 3: System flow pattern of the LC set up and the common identified issues behind coolant leak in a Honda CBR 250R

Otherwise i don't think there is any other way the coolant would play peek-a-boo and vanish in thin air. Secondly the engine oil inspection window on your bike would show the tell tale signs of coolant mixing with engine oil especially the ones you have described.

The next time you visit the SVC either show them the following screen grabs or if they happen to have the workshop manual refer to the following pages and have fun watching their face turn pale. When they know that they are dealing with an informed customer usually the excuses runout and then the real troubleshooting begins.

All the best..

Hi,
I will check that thread out, thanks a lot buddy!
I have not taken my bike in deep water. Not sure about the pressure wash at svc during my second service.. they said they have the image of water inside the air filter. I will be asking them to forward that. If the coolant level drops again, i'm going to ask Honda for engine replacement or else i will be taking this to the consumer court. I have already warned them through mail.
As of now there is a little amount of condensation which is visible from the oil window.. so i hope its just water.. this should clear after the engine heats up considerably.. lets see after 2 days. The coolant reservoir is full now and I will be monitoring the level regularly and if it is constant after 2 weeks of riding, will report the issue as solved.

I am really glad that i'm being guided through this by you both psr sir and shv18! Thanks a lot guys!
