I just undertook the earth wire mod on my bike today and I am happy to report that it helped to a good extent in restoring the quick initial throttle response which was greatly missed when I bought the bike. It turned out to be a very simple job and i am surprised that such a simple DIY can transform the way bike responds to throttle inputs. All in all this thread has been a great learning curve, many thanks to Shiv and other senior members for sharing their valuable inputs from time to time

Happy to see many owners getting the benefit of the secondary Earth Wire mod...As I had explained before, it is not just CBR250R alone but many bikes from Honda Yamaha etc., suffer from this at some time or other...The Chassis powder coating and Aluminum oxide formation are the prime reason...though by good electronics/ electrical practise, all negative return must be to the main negative point ,ie., battery terminal, manufacturers do try to use the chassis as negative return as it is simpler, reduces wire length(cost reduction) and generally thought to be reliable..
Good Luck..

I have been reading this whole thread for quite sometime. An awesome write up by shv18 which loads of useful information and mods. Thanks a lor for sharing the same.
Recently I was in the market for a used bike as my Ninja 650 had met with a crash and it will take bare minimum 3-4 months (if not more) to fix her (if its possible to fix her in the first place).
Reading this thread really gave me an insight as to what kind of maintainance I was looking at.
So at the end picked up a Oct 2016 registered Black CBR 250 (STD) for 1.10. The bike had only 5600kms when I picked her up.

I have already done the earth wire mod and it sure has helped improve the midrange.
Yet to do the HDEO stuff, have got the FZ oil filters.
Changed the headlight to Chinese H4 LED (with driver). Costs meagre 550 bucks and light is quite good. Seems to be quite similar to the Osram H7 HIDs that I was using in my Ninja.
The stock tyre for sure suck. Need to get them replaced.
Which one should I go for Michelin PSR or Diablo Rosso II?

Sorry to hear of your Ninja 650 crash..Hope you are doing well without any serious Injuries..

It is Good to see that some of the findings in the thread of Shivang are standing the test of time and use...

The Secondary Earth Wire mod was done to solve the Earth problem in Shivang's CBR250 ...and it had proved to be a boon to many CBR250R owners/users ....It is surprising that a 2016 which is hardly a Year Old could develop Earth /Negative Return problem and could benefit from the mod..
Thanks for sharing your experience here..

The FZ oil Filter was suggested ONLY as a stop gap one ,in place of OE filter, since the same was not easily available at that time...Again Shivang, the adventurer/Learner he is, had used it for nearly 20,000 Kms (ofcourse with periodic filter change at every oil change))..Please remember this is an experiment though proved to be good replacement..use caution with the FZ filter. The HDEO oil Shell Rimula R4,must be changed at 1,500~1,800 Kms of use, since it is a Mineral oil...

Keep a replacement headlight bulb with you, since Chinese LEDs are prone to failure...

The stock tires are not the ideal ones for CBR250...The PSR ones are supposed to be good VFM..However Shivang and other actual owners/users are the best to give a Valid Opinion on this, since I do not own a CBR250R.

Good Luck

Tyres should be chosen based on usage.

1, Michelin PSR - medium life, medium compound tyres. Good for touring and generally has a life span of 20k+ km. Offers decent grip.

2. Rosso 2 - exceptional grip, soft compound tyres. Good for track or going corner craving. Has less life, about 10~13k km max. Goes for this or Metzler sportec if all you require is gripping the tarmac.

Thank you for your kind words. When this thread was started the end goal was always to ensure that it becomes something much more than simple blabbering of an OCMD motorcycling cartoon and i guess slowly but steadily this thread is taking that direction.

To answer your query, well if you have checked out an early post on this thread (https://www.xbhp.com/talkies/general...ml#post1280509) the video link of Ari Henning (Motorcyclist magazine): he clearly explains that any tire, brand or quality is always a compromise between grip Vs life. When it came to choosing rubber, i was very clear on what i wanted on my bike - a tire which can offer me good grip when doing high speed corner carving sessions while going the extra mile when i am on touring mode plus the added plush feeling when going through horrendous roads. In my humble experience so far the Michelin Pilot Street Radials have not disappointed me one bit and as i have mentioned it many times before it would be very difficult for me to part from this brand of tires unless the market offers something similar or better. Pirellis no doubt make some of the best tires in the market with the stickiest rubber one can find however, the life won't be that great. So the main thing to consider is do you really need so much grip on the streets? If 70% of your ride is only going to be within the city premises can you justify the "Cost Per Km" that you will incur? Is it so that More Grip and Less odometer life is ok with you? How many kms you intend to clock per year - 10,000+ kms or under that figure? If you know the answers to these questions well my friend i need not elaborate which tire make or brand should you choose right?

I am happy to note that you are willing to try out FZ filter on your CBR. However, as rightly pointed out by @psr sir and the disclaimers mentioned many times on this thread, it is my duty to remind and caution all the readers and owners that this is still to be considered as an ongoing experiment! If you decide to follow my footsteps, know this you are doing so with your own independent decision and free will. As per my ownership experience so far, i am yet to find any engine problems or engine internal components failing. However, whether this experiment is repeatable or not in all other CBRs is something which is yet to be tested. If the respective readers/owners are willing to try it out and report their logs/ experiences on this thread.. we will then have more concrete data available on this thread to decisively confirm whether this experiment can be deemed safe for all Honda CBR 250R owners or not. I will continue to log my reports as the kms go by with my FZ filter experiment.

It is not a dry type chain lube. If you check the image of the Yamalube, nowhere it mentions the same. It is usually available at any authorised Yamaha SVC or Yamaha Spare parts shop or online sites like Amazon etc.

All the best..

Hello everyone!
Even I have done the earth wire mod on my bike and it surely has improved the mid-range torque mainly in 2nd and 3rd gear now. As shv18 pointed out, the bike happily pulls from 3k rpm in 3rd gear without lugging! And the engine has been running a lot more cooler (the fan doesn't kick in frequently) I am very happy with the mod and would like to thank shv18 and psr sir for this! Also, I've been using the FZ oil filter with shell advance ultra as of now. [emoji4]

On the Ninja 650, we have been using oil filters ranging from a R3 to a Santro/Lancer. Thereasons are multiple:
1. Availability of stock filter (next to none).
2. Price (costs approx 700)

Till now, not a single user has reported any issue.
I have used both R3 and Lancer filter and have clocked 15k+ kms. 95% highway runs with speeds north of 160kmph. Didnt face any issue.

The reason I asked the question regarding the tyres is for the fact that I was using Michelin PR4 on the Ninja they offered exceptional wet grip and being 2CT tyres, last quite long (20k kms). However its not available in the size that CBR needs.
Since you are using PSR, can you please check and let me know if its a 2CT?
My friend is using Rosso II in hi Ninja and so far he has clocked 8k kms on them and they still have approx 50% life left. What I am not sure is if the build quality is same as the difference in ptice is huge.
110/70 Rosso II is 4.5k
120/70 Rosso II is approx 12k.

Given the 250cc, 26 bhp engine with a maximum capable speed of 135 kmph (GPS tested) on a 250R, you don't need to go and spend sky high on rubber as it would be an overkill. You need to set your priorities regarding utility Vs cost and then make a call on procurement. I would prefer MPSRs simply because it has been tried and tested on CBRs and owners have given only positive reviews. I have procured "H" rated ones even though my CBR would never be able to reach those speeds ever... You can refer the Michelin India website: Michelin Pilot Street Radial Tyres for any specs or clarifications you are looking at.

Rest you may take a sound call based on your own deductions.

All the best..

Good to know the protection gear did their job and you are ok...The reason for warning on alternate oil filter is being emphasized often is due to the fact that not everybody is tech savy and maintain their bike well. I had on many instances seen bikes with sludge meeting their end, and on inquiry found that the bike had been serviced regularly at the ASC...Many times the ASC tops up the oil and does not change it, eventually leading to engine issues later..Under such circumstances, there is every chance for the the owner who experiments with spares to run into bad problems, which will be pointed to the alternates tried....So to ensure that variables are taken into account and, should a problem occurs, fault finding is made simple if the engine remains stock(also ensuring extended warranty), the warnings are given...Those who are aware of what they are doing will understand..

I am Happy to note that you had tried alternate oil filters in your Ninja 650 successfully. .You must definitely be knowing your dots from dashes. Kudos to you, and it was good of you to share the same in this thread for the benefit of all of us... In fact I use a Santro oil filter in my Lancer with no ill effect...The Lancer OE is 900/- while the alternate is 100/-..and does the same job without issues...Ofcourse the Lancer oil filter is no longer available..

Good Luck.

Hello everyone. This is a oil sharing experience. Just wanted to share my 6k experience on my cbr250r white color which I got 5 months back.
On the first servicing itself I changed the oil to shell advanced ultra 4t 10w40. And I must say, what an amazing feel. The butter smooth engine and gear shifts just won my heart. But the only problem was when I would try to redline my bike, I was not satisfied with the performance then. Not that it was some issue, but then being a lover for redlining the RPM (the CBR made me the hooligan :P) I wanted more of it. Anyways, just did my second servicing a couple of days back. I changed the oil to Motul 7100 10w40. And WOWWWWW!!!!! I JUST LOVE IT. One thing that I experienced is if you want a smooth and calm ride, the shell advanced is best (Hands Down). But if you are a sucker for redlining, go for motul.

And now I have a question for everyone here so it can help me. I had changed my rear brake pads at 2400 kms and now on my servicing, the guy when he was cleaning the brakes using 3m power brake cleaner, he told me that my rear brake pads were almost a goner and my front brake pads are with the same lof span. Just needed to confirm if the brake pads die this soon.

Since mine is an C-Abs version, is there any other brake pads that i could find for a cheaper price? I found one online from zadon. How good are the zadon brakes? Also I would request psr sir shv18 and other experienced riders to put your input please.

Life of brake pads mostly depend on ones riding style. If you break too often or drag your brakes then you cant expect much life out of it.

Please do not go for cheap brake pads. Brakes are one of the most important part of your bike and safety. DO NOT compromise on them at any cost. Atleast get the stock OEM pads if not better.
