Bulky Rider , please do the earth wire mod ASAP and feel the difference...I believe your Earthing at the RR unit is causing you electrical/electronic problems.

Hai,

I am so inspired by the posts and constantly look for any updates. Now I want to try my own experiments though I am a full DIY person. I own a CL350 with 38000 kms on odometer. The oil recommended is 15W50. Can I use Shell HX5 15w50. It is ment for diesel and gasoline engines. Will it behave or clean like Shell rimula. Please advise psr and others.

Cheers

The MSDS for the HX5 15w50 is a bit vague in that it does not mention specific contents and values...Still the description says It is s Mineral oil with additives to prevent Sludge formation, and cleans engine while keeping the internals clean during operation and also maintains it's viscosity....Sounds more like the Rimula R4, though R4 MSDS clearly states that it contains ZDDP and Calcium Alkaryl , Two important friction busters...

I guess you can try the HX 15w50 mineral oil and observe the difference...

Most Rimula series oil in India has max of w40 only...Alternatively try Mobil 1 15w50 which is a good alternative...Available with a oil retail shop which is located in the lane next to Royapettah woodlands hotel..
He is a retailer for most company engine oils and is trustworthy.

Hi Bud.

I live in Malad too. You can get this from K.k. Auto Parts,

The address is K.k. Auto Parts, 16, Vishal Complex, Opp N.L High School, S.V Road, Malad West, Mumbai, Maharashtra 400064, India

There is also a My Yamaha service centre on Chincholi bunder road. They should have it too. As well as Bhagwati motors on the same road should definitely have it.

Cheers!

Posting my experience regarding earth wire mod after around 15 days of usage post mod.

Firstly i would like to clarify that i carried out mod using a wire of 6mm since it was lying with me. I thought that it would not make much of a difference if i use thicker one so i just picked the one lying with me.

Now, to be very frank I didn't feel any phenomenal difference in the performance. Only thing that is noticeable for me right now is slightly better low end (under 3k rpm).

And yes!! I have not faced shutoff issue since i did this mod except for once when tacho dipped below 1k rpm and engine stopped in a gradual manner.
So i am thinking of getting my fuel filter checked too.

I am still observing the changes post mod and will update here if any or will upgrade to a 10mm wire if i felt need to.
Thank you gurus and fellow members for helping me with mod

Sir, do you feel a 50w oil is a bit thicker than the cbr250 engine oil galleys can take?

I may have remembered this wrong, since it happened 4-5 years ago, but I recall that aargee's cbr250 had 20w50 engine oil poured in after first service. In one of his early posts on some forums, he mentioned that 'and oil was changed to 20w50 which the service centre assured can be used in place of 10w30.'

Soon after, he redlined the bike, and, as we know the engine got seized. I had a theory then, that the 50w oil may have led to engine oil starvation at very high rpms.

W50 is not so thick as to stop flowing through galleys...Aargee's bike had Honda recommended oil which was 20w40 or 10w40 at that time..The seizure was not due to oil and only the inlet side of Piston touched the bore...still he could ride at 100 Kmph with engine noise. You must remember that a thicker oil makes it difficult for the Crankshaft to rotate easily (Crank shaft sits inside oil bath), and is the reason why engine will not have quicker acceleration..Hope this clarifies your doubt.

Hello everyone,

Just got the servicing done for my bike from a local mechanic.
I have a lot of things to tell you all. Some stupid, some bizarre and what not.

So, let's begin.

I gave the bike to the mechanic. He is the one who used to service my previous bike, Suzuki Zeus.
He immediately asked me if I had sold the Zeus. I told him I left it in Chhattisgarh.
He was shocked to hear that I rode that bike for 1100 km to Chhattisgarh from Mumbai and that too alone.
He kept asking about the journey and it took 15 minutes for him to sunk in the fact that a 125 kg heavy man rode 1100 km on a 125 cc bike.
I told him this is not something special. Many have done these type of journey.

1)So, after servicing, I noticed the bike looks more cleaner and runs smoother.

2)He was not agreeing to add shell rimula r4 in the bike but agreed after I told him to trust me.

3)All the coolant, brake oil, brake pads, cables, clutch plate were in good condition. So, no need to change.
But the bike was getting heated up a lot. He told me the oil changed and the cleaned radiator will also help in that department.

4) Then, he said something weird to me. He said, the "Orum" or "Orim" and a the cable needs to be changed.
This will solve the problem of meter function. But its not available right now, it will take 2-3 days to get the parts. Then the meter will start working.
I didn't ask more about this 'Orum' thingy because he said it will cost 1000-1500 rs with the cable. I was happy to hear the price
as the SVC mechanic said I have to change the entire meter which will cost me 6500 rs. Comparatively, the job will be done in much cheaper price. Let's see what's this "Orum" is. If anyone know about it, let me know.

5) I showed him the pics of shv18's post of earth wire mod, he agreed to do it on the day when he will repair the meter.
So, that's on the way and it will be done by the end of this week.

6) He had never seen a K & N filter. Maybe he services less high end bikes. So, I told him about it. He had also cleaned it too with petrol.

7) And then the bizzare one. I had brought a yamaha fz oil filter to get it changed in place of the old one. He said, "This bike doesn't have any oil filter." So, there's no need for this. I was amazed to hear this as daily I am seeing videos and photos of people changing the oil filters of cbr 250r. I didn't say anything to him as I was getting late for my night shift. I will show him the video on how to change the oil filter on this bike on the day of doing earth wire mod.

8) Also, he poured in 2.5 litres of oil in the bike. I read in this post that it takes 1.5 litres. So, I asked him about it. He said, "It takes 2.5 litres." Again I was shocked on what he was saying. As I don't have the bike manual, so, I had no way to cross check him then and there.

Please, comment on this weird experience with the bike mechanic. Should I change my mechanic as he seems to have lesser knowledge about this bike?
Or am I the one who needs enlightening?

Do, let me know. Thanks everyone. By the way, I am loving every moment of riding this bike after the service.

Hey,
Cbr has an oil filter and it is recommended to change it when you change the oil.
2.5 litres? Are you sure buddy? How did he fill that much? The cbr only takes 1.5l along with oil filter change and without oil filter it is 1.4l. After the whole engine disassembly it takes 1.8l max. Get the oil filter changed and drain the oil and fill in only 1.5l.
