And the usual basic changes and inspection is to be done.

I am going to try the rimula treatment as the bike is 6 years old and I think itna to banta hi hai .
Ordered the 5 litre can of shell rimula r4 from amazon for this .

For now, there's no engine shut off problem in my bike, so, I am not in a rush to try the earth wire mod.

I previously had a 125 cc suzuki zeus and this bike is way more buttery smooth and the pickup is super.

I am a very heavy biker (5' 10", 125 kg) I will also be checking a heavy biker's compatibility with this sports tourer bike in coming future.

Thanks to this amazing informational post about cbr 250r started by @shv18 and enriched by many bikers such as @psr, @aargee and many more.

I hope to add any useful info that I get while riding this bike.

Thank you so much for this amazing post of Honda cbr 250r.

    Cheers !!!!
Congrats on taking the plunge and going for the used CBR250R . Like you had pointed out Shivang had taken the risk and after some time, had problems to tear at his Hair..But with Honda simple problems become tough , only if we overlook the obvious..Honda is a reliable vehicle manufacturer,...in fact so reliable, that you will soon find the CBR250 boring. ..because it will do what you expect it do and soon your expectation will become more , like more power, which is when you will start to look for higher CC bike..So while you are with the new bike, enjoy responsibly ...
    Good Luck..

Totally agree with you here sir. Shivang has risked it all to make his bike better and better everytime. But then he also did something that should be much appreciated for. Where other people when after getting the work on their bike regarding any common issues don't even care to share a brief information, shv18 here has shared every single experience of his. The amount of patience he has, the time he has dedicated not just for himself but also for us to know and rectify the issues, is worth many many praises.
And after reading his post, there were many times he mentioned about you psr sir. And how you have helped him whenever he needed you. You sir deserve a much huge respect here for helping someone to locate his exact issue sitting thousands of miles away. Huge respect to you both sir.
      Cheers

Congratulations buddy. New or used, doesn't matter. The CBR is as refined as any 250cc bikes can get. Enjoy your ride.

Just an observation of my bike before its servicing and changes :-

        1) Tachometer, tripmeter and speedometer not working. I think these three are inter connected. Hence, the problem in all three.

        2) Fuel section is blinking while showing full tank. According to manual, fuel gauge needs to be repaired.

        3) watch and coolant gauge is working. 😊😊😊 All in all the instrument panel is not completely gone. I think its repairable. Any suggestion?

        4) gear shifting is getting harder. I think engine is calling out for rimula ☺☺☺

        5) clutch, engine and brakes are super smooth. 👍👍👍

        6) Need to change the indicator lights. Front ones are super wobbly. One of the rear ones is broken.

        7) Ceat zooms are in good condition. No need to change.

        8) Brake fluid and coolant need to be changed. Should I stick to OEM or get from some other company? Need to completely read this thread. Possibly it is already answered somewhere.

Its ganapati season. Everything is closed for about 2 days in mumbai. Will check these next month.

        Cheers 😊😊😊

          1. Is the speedo console not doing the self test when you turn on the ignition?

          2. Try using a FI cleaner (something like this https://www.amazon.in/Liqui-Moly-Pet...jector+cleaner)

          3. Please ans question 1.

          8. Its better if you bleed your brakes and flush the coolant system. You can choose to go OEM route to save some bucks. Else you can use RBF660 for brake fluid and MotoCool Expert/Engine Ice for coolant. Do note that you wont notice any difference between RBF660 (or other high performance brake fluids) as the calipers would never reach that kind of temps of smaller capacity bikes. I am using it right now as I had some left over from my Ninja 650 brake line change. Same goes for coolant as well. The CBR has a gem of a cooling system.

Ans 1) The speedo blinks completely while starting. I think this is the self test you meant. I am attaching a photo. Please take a look. Click image for larger version

It just rained, so, there's water on the console.

Ans 2) How good are these type of cleaners? How to look for its effects, if it has done the job?

Ans 3) Will do as suggested for the brake fluids and coolant. Thanks a lot @hellgate

Just wanted to show you all. That's it.

              1. If the speedo console does the self test then issue might be with the wheel speed sensor.

              2. See if the fuel gauge blinks post using that.

                Hi,

would like to thank everyone for participating and also i would like to express my gratitude for considering this insignificant thread to be helpful for all those who wish to learn something more than what is usually told to them by OEM manufacturer's dealers. As i have always said earlier, knowledge when shared becomes much more than merely, "i know better than you!" kind of thing - an attitude if i may call it, i am really not very fond of. I believe the more we learn the art of listening to what your beloved motorcycle is telling you, the more easier it would be to assess and take care of any issues that may crop up over the period of your ownership to make the overall experience a pleasurable one.

Anyways, would like to share a small update...

                NEW RIDING GEAR

My last trip to Bhutan was really amazing and at the same time an eye opener for me. Even though i absolutely love my alpinestars TGPR - Plus Air Jacket, it is primarily designed to be a summers jacket without having any rain or thermal liner. So the short comings became apparent when i was lashed with unexpected rains and the temps dipped quite a bit while ascending towards Thimpu, Bhutan at night. So in the back of my mind i had already thought of having a separate touring spec jacket which will ensure that i get the best of the protection from the elements and at the same time, designed specifically to cater to the touring requirements especially in the season of Fall and Winter.

Thanks o the incessant rains in the North East, all my rides have come to a complete halt. So this is the period which is actually quite dangerous for an OCMD rider as mind starts to wander and results in unforeseen expenses taking place purely out of boredom! So after near about 3 months of continuous sabbatical from riding, i have had it and decided to actually pursue the given matter quite seriously. Personally, i really like this french brand "Furygan" which i have been lusting after for quite a while. When i came to know that it was being sold in India locally, i was quite elated. However, the lack of any customer service response from the authorised e-store (Home - 6000 Miles to The Isle of Man) related to all the query mails i had put forward pissed me off and i decided to check out the offerings of A-Stars from the usual (Alpinestars India | Official | Planet DSG)

Incidentally, Planetdsg has recently revamped their old website and in order to promote it further, has been running a flat 10% discount on all their A-Stars offerings for near about a month. I ended up shortlisting the Andes Drystar touring tech jacket. The Customer service representative: 'Brijesh' from Planet Dsg was very helpful and was prompt in replying to any queries i had related to the jacket. Satisfied with the information i received, i then placed an order for the same and as always it was delivered at my doorstep within less than a week. This is one thing i really appreciate about PlanetDsg: the shipment and courier service is lightning fast.

For those who may wish to know more about this jacket can check out the product demo from Revzilla:

Now i am sure most of your readers may be wondering whats with having two jackets for a single rider? Well for all those hardcore touring personnel, it becomes very clear after a while that having a purpose built jacket saves the rider from a lot of hassles rather going for jacket designed for one specific purpose and then trying to use it in every environment if you get the drift. The touring bug has bitten me for good so i wanted to ensure that slowly but steadily i try and accumulate all the essential gears i can get hold of for rider safety. I must thank @abhimanyu31 for lighting the "safety bulb" in me which otherwise like every other Indian rider i normally wouldn't have bothered at all. Safety is paramount for a motorcycle rider as one is exposed to the same elements which makes it dangerous as well as exciting in case if the unthinkable ever happens. Besides did i forget to mention I have OCMD right!!

So here goes the unboxing and other "essential" pics for the readers:

Pic 1 - 11: Alpinestars Drystar Andes Tech Touring Jacket.

I tried the jacket on me and it is exactly what has been advertised. The quality is absolutely sublime and with the thermal liner provided, i am sure that i can scale the likes of Leh, Ladakh with ease. I decided to go for one size larger (L size would have fit me just fine however XL size was finalised upon) as this will allow me to wear any additional clothing purely for extremely cold environment. Plus i did figure out with my earlier ownership experience with the existing jacket that when one adds the Rear back and front chest protector, the jacket does become more of a tight fit for the rider.

One benefit of owning another A-Stars jacket is i can swap the CE rated II armours for back and Chest from my TGPR Plus Air jacket to this so i don't have to spend anything extra in terms of armour upgrades. This is 100% waterproof jacket with 3 waterproof pockets as mentioned in the demo video link above. I intend to use primarily for my upcoming rides post monsoon to the Himalayas (if everything goes right!!) and shall provide my feedback later.

Thanks to the rainy season, all i have managed to do with my bike is start it once in a week and let it idle for about 15 mins in order to ensure that the battery doesn't run flat and the fuel line remains clear. Since, i knew that a long sabbatical was going to take place, the tank was filled with fuel to the brim while adding System - G fuel additive so that everything remains hunky and dory. Now that my bike has hit 40,000 kms mark i am not sure whether i should let my OCMD win and replace the factory fitted spark plug or should let it be and use it for another 8-10,000 kms as there are no signs of anything going wrong with the item. Anyways, once the riding resumes shall update this thread with more data and my experiences.

                Until then...

                Cheers,

Started the HDEO treatment today. Replaced the oil filter with stock OEM as had one lying around.
Initial feel is that vibrations seem to have reduced by a lot. Its like a complete different feel. You need to experience it to believe it.
Previous oil change was done a month back and I had used Shell AX7 (Semi synthetic). That oil had turned very dark in color post some mere 600kms.
Will continue the HDEO for atleast 1 more cycle post this. Then might switch to Motul 7100 (have 4 bottles lying around).

i am not sure. Everything is getting displayed on my computer. Perhaps other members may check and confirm.

Yup your initial impressions are spot on with Shell Rimula R4. As mentioned earlier, Rimula R4 has higher percentage of ZDDP/Zinc and Cleaning detergents like Calcium Alkaryl etc. ZDDP reduces metal to metal surface grinding and creates a thin disposable film thus, making things run with lesser friction = vibes getting reduced while the component life of the engine may increase exponentially. The other contributing factor is also that Rimula R4 is of 15W 40 grade thus, slightly thicker which reduces vibrations as well. However, when it hits ideal operating temperature, in my experience it acts more like a 10W FS oil as mentioned many times in my earlier posts. Abroad they use Shell Rotella T6 HDEO FS oil in SBKs and that oil has got raving reviews and a devout list of followers: who will put it in everything right from lawnmower, scooters, SBKs to heavy machinery and trucks. You may notice that at the very edge of the redline the engine will be slightly harsher. But under 7500 rpm it will be smooth as silk. You may notice a slight improvement in low end torque and a little bump in FE as the piston ring sealing improves with usage of this HDEO oil overtime.

Compared to Motul i would anyday recommend Shell advanced Ultra 10W 40 FS oil as it has been tried and tested and is proven to be loved by CBR though i do understand that you need to get rid of the existing lot first.

                    All the best..

                    • Re: The story so far.. My Honda CBR 250R

                      Hi guys,

                      Another great post by shv18.
Thank you bro for the high quality infos you provide.

So, here's something from my side. Last time I told you guys that my instrument panel is not working. Just the coolant and clock is working. Rest everything's down.

So, I took my bike to a HONDA SERVICE CENTER. I could see the mechanic was telling the service advisor that he is very busy but on the advisor's insistence, he came to see the bike.

The bike was on. He just saw the instrument panel and said, "Is meter ke andar sensor hota hai wo kharab ho gaya hai. Pura meter change karna padega." He disn't even touched the bike and left from there.

The service advisor told me the tachometer setup will cost 6500 rs and its not in stock. So, I have to wait. I asked him if the sensor is down then why is the clock and coolant temperature is showing and perfectly working? He had no answer. So, I refused to get a new meter and leave from there.

Then, rain god started pissing on Mumbai like hell for 3 days. I didn't get the chance to take the bike to any local mechanic.

Today it stopped raining for awhile. And on my way back home from my office I full throttled on the empty road. Eureka ! Jadu ho gaya 😊😊😊😊.

The entire panel started. The tachometer, tripmeter, fuel gauge, speedometer. Everything is working. I had a thought back in mind and also I have read about it somewhere in this forum that the moisture can halt the working of the bike's meter. Probably, its temporary. I will get this checked to a mechanic once the rain cools down.

But one things for sure the instrument panel's sensor or whatever is working. No need to be replaced. And the service center where I took my bike might be the fraud superstar. Oh, that's 2 things. ☺☺☺☺

Cheers! See you next time guys !

I have resized the images to 1024 X 768 pixels. If it now gets displayed on xbhp tapatalk then i guess probably it was not doing so may be because the original images were clicked @ 21 megapixels by my new phone (got rid of the old one!!) and may be some conversion issue cropped up... not sure i am not the web expert here .

Yes. Maybe the host server doesn't recognize such high res images.

                              Another great post by @shv18.

Eureka ! Jadu ho gaya .

                              hi @bulkyrider ,

if you have ID'd the culprit then i feel the first step to take would be to remove the console from your bike and store it inside an airtight compartment while stuffing the whole storage unit with newspapers or silicon pouches (usually provided long with water bottles or casseroles) and leave the contraption like this for about a week or two. Once, you are done then take out the console, disassemble it and see if there are any seals/point from where moisture ingress is happening. If all the LEDs are fine then re-assemble the whole unit but first by applying silicone gel in between the ridges and then permanently attaching it. If the LEDs need some attention then it is a very simple job to replace them and perhaps paying a visit to Lamington road, Mumbai and getting them replaced with quality LEDs and then re-doing the process mentioned above should solve the problem. However, please take this advice with a pinch of salt only!

i would recommend that you trouble @psr sir since, he is an electronics expert and would be able to guide you better regarding ways to troubleshoot this. My guess is this bike was always parked outside and exposed to the elements or else was covered with a rain cover by the previous owner, which allowed moisture build up inside the bike. Would highly recommend that you go ahead with Earth Wire mod since, you live in a salty and humid environment. Will save you a lot of headaches later. All the terminals and connectors attached to your bike's electrical wiring loom should receive a healthy dose of WD 40 spray to remove any kind of possible rust/corrosion and the same goes for the switch gears on your handlebar clip-ons and battery terminals.

                              Cheers,

This problem started when i kept my bike without any usage for 6 months. Done 1000 kms after that now with new oil (oil flush was also done) ,decarbonization of head, air filter, oil filter, tappet clearance is ok told the svc people, throttle body was fully cleaned. When we try to accelerate quickly the rpm increase taking small pause in between at the midrange of the rpm. https://youtu.be/r8ZwCdSAVcc
