  • Thicker wire = more current
    Thinner wire = lesser current

but the thing is, thinner wire can be wound more number of times on the same pole.
so it turns out to give more voltage.

if you use a 35 guage wire (very thin), and wind it across your bullet's stator, the bike can produce 230v with ease, but the amps will be very low.

similarly, if you use a thicker wire, the voltage would remain around 12 and it can give you 10 amps.

use 18 guage wire, it will do the job of running 2 hids with ease.

BTW, your battery is not a 5 volt battery, its 12v only.
its rated 5 amperes, not voltage.

and if you wish to run 2 hids, you'll have to change your battery to a 9 amp one.
Giving a lot to a fiero.
Expecting a lot from a fiero.

    • Thanks for the explanation nano, talked to "Jaf" in pudupet, he said that he can do the conversion (30 min job as per him) and it'll be only reconnecting the coil wires, no rewinding needed. Not sure if this'll work though. How do I verify that its generating enough current? (which contacts to check with multimeter)
      edit:
I'll be replacing the battery with 9ah 12V sometime later. Is it a plug n play job or do need to mess around with electricals :P

      • sreeni / doc, sorry to disturb you guys. But was stuck in between. Anyway, here's the update.

Found an auto electrician who actually understood what I wanted him to do. He'll be winding it with 18AWG wire in a continuous-alternating way. I'll ask him to do it more than 12 feet per pole, but am not sure if stator can accommodate that much wire. Is there a way to determine the length of wire to be used? I know I'm asking too much.

I asked him about APE RR and he said you can't fix it in a bull since bulls have magnets on the internal side of the stator core. I saw that in case of bull, the coil is wound on the internal side of the core, whereas it is on the outer side in case of other bikes. But how does it mean whether APE RR will be compatible or not. Though it won't matter as long as stock RR is able to do the job.

Doc, you say battery is akin to a water tank. I that case I assume a bigger battery will only take more time to get charged/discharged. The charging will be at same rate though.

I'll need help in plonking an HID once DC conversion is complete.
Can anyone suggest a 14ah battery as well. unable to find any.

Quite frankly, i done the mod on Pulsar150 classic...and it is great success...now running on 55/60W halogen. The problem pending is i don't quite easily get details on the same mod to pulsar 150 UGIII... Rahul..could you make it more clear?

I second that bro. Rahul, can you please give a much more detailed step by step method for AC to DC on Pulsar 150 UG3 models.

The circuit diagram directly is of no use to noobs like me for this level of electrical stuff.

Can you please give step by step procedure of what all parts to purchase, photos of the actual circuit, wiring locations in and out from the actual setup of the bike?

                    • Long term report from my side-with ape rr and rewound coil and 55/60 w headlight, amby reflactor, cut out set up

now copleted around 4000km after this setup, very few night rides but it worth!its increased my avrage speed while riding in nights in pune-mumbai ride.and even after 400km nonstop ride rr unit doent heated up at all!
But i have heard from my friend who works in apprilia workshop pune he mate our xbhp guy prince who also has same setup he has to come at pagio workshop for rr unit.
i doubt what is the life cycle of ape RR unit?how much km??like day riding wise or night riding wise beacuse im planing for goa ride shortly, and if RR fail then it would be hell for me!so guys please share your views.
and thanks for abhijeet for such valuable mods which is possible for me.

                      • It should be as reliable as any OEM parts. Mine has covered more than 10k kms.

                                one 5 pin relay 10A Dc12V

in my case, maybe my steps wlll be
yellow wire is located from regulator device towards headlights depts.
                                disconnect this yellow wire.
add custom rectifier. dc volts to battery.
other part of yellow wire will go to brown wire.

am i fine till now , sirji
