    Guys,
I find this topic pointless. It should be closed. Almost every Xbhp biker uses a Premium bike to commute. And what's so strange about that?

Where even the fastest premium bikes (RTR180/ P220/ CBR 250) are good commuters, why should Xbhp bikers get a separate bike for commuting? Mileage? I don't think so.

I Own A Thunderbird Twinspark Which i use daily to my college Which is approximately 10km...So I do about 20-25kms a day. My bike gives me an avg of 30-32 kms.... Maintenance- need to visit once or twice a month to svc for some minor problems....& Need to make sure dust/dirt does not settle as the bike tends to rust...

Been commuting on my CBR everyday! The torque is addictive! Got a mileage of 31 last week which was awesome! This was complete city riding only

Do 60kms everyday to-and-fro and sometimes 70 kms.

Though planning to cut down and go to office by train on some days!

Initially, I used to do only touring on my Ninja 250R now I take it to office as well.
Gives me a decent mileage of 20-25kmpl ever since when commuting. While touring it goes upto 30-35kmpl.

Seems "premium" definition has changed then I used my XCD125 for 7 months continuously to go to office which was 50kms one dide, i.e. 100kms to and fro. Mileage = 55-60kmpl

                      Hero Honda Hunk,CBZ Xtreme,Karizma.
                      Bajaj P220(F&Fi),P200,P180,P150.
                      Yamaha FZ16 & R15.

                      HONDA Unicorn.
                      SUZUKI GS150R.

Now what I need to discuss and share is what is the fuel consumption? of these bikes when it comes to commuting and traversing traffic of any metros or urban regions in India.
Also what are the maintenance cost and other issues that these bikes require for plain commuting.(like lubrication, suspension maintence, tyre and brake issues).

P.S.I dont seek a comparison of these bikes with 125cc or 100cc segments.Only a general discussion about their performance as a commuter. Thanks

I own a Yamaha Fazer .9months old,11500km. In city bike returns a mileage of 45-48. On highways at 65kmph cruising i get 58kmpl. on ripping at 80-90.returns 45-48,at 110-126kmph retuns 42kmpl. No problem faced till now . Only the front master cylinder kit was faulty, was changed under warranty.

About lubrication.- using Motul chain cleaner and lube (480+510). in rainy season using castrol gear oil 90. At 10,000kms changed the front fork oil (310/- for both the fork)Tyres still good to run for another 10000kms . Rear tyre has 6 punctures. Fazer Mrf Revz tyres are prone to punctures but provide excellent grip and stability on road. Brakes are the best in class (150cc) makes me feel safe when i am riding her, alwez

i ride an RE CL500. (can this be called premium?) i commute around 60km everyday, in bangalore traffic, and long rides around once a month. gives me about 25 km/pl but who's complaining!!!
Actually i dont think its actually comfortable to go 30-80 km around big cities on 100 cc commuters. I may be mistaken but thats what i feel (pls dnt beat me up )
Overall i dont do any extra maintenance apart from regular servicing every 3k KMs.

                            Premium bikes !!!...lol...

Pre 2009 i guess there were premium bikes but now i think premium bikes are none apart from SBKs.

Previously R15 use to be a premium bike due to limitation of higher choice but today there are many.

                            R15, CBR150-250R, and Duke.
I consider them medium premium, becuase today i see many bikes from above category.

Today i consider the following bikes as premium:
                            1. Hyosung ST7
                            2. GT650R
                            3. Ninja 650
                            4. Ninja 250
                            5. GT250R

BTW the way there are some SBKs and other higher >700cc bikes which are platinum premium bikes, HD883, R1, CBRRR, etc..

I own a simple R15, which i brought for touring only, but now i have to use to for daily commuting for 40kms. average is 40-45kmpl. Riping then atleast 35kmpl.
Maintenance is exceptionally high as compared to other 150cc. or some 200cc too.

                            Happy with it
