Guys one query, I have a Pulsar 180 UG4 2010 as known in previous posts.

It is nearing 1L KM mark (2K kms short), and I just wanted to know if
    * The meter reading will reset post 99999 to 0
    * The meter will continue recording as it is right now
    * The meter will stop completely at 99999

What out of above three can happen? Pulsar mechanics at service centers were clueless on this[/QUOTE]

AFAIK, the meter will reset itself from 99999 to 00000 and the reading starts all over again. The easiest way to know is if you have a 0 (ZERO) before the actual kilometers on the odo (Like 099999). If you do, then the meter ticks on till 999999, which is a 6-digit number.

    Yamaha YZF R15 V2 [2011 - Present]
    Yamaha YZF R3 [2016 - Present]

    What's next? :)

Congrats to 100k club, Even i have 2010 UG 4. I have hit 100k mark last month below are my reply
        * The meter reading will reset post 99999 to 0
No, Meter will get stuck at 99999, service center folks said it is designed to stuck at 99999, they said outside shop we can get it reset.Currently i travelled 6k km after that, calculated distance using trip meter. Need to check next week, feasibility of resetting it to 6k,my mechanic says it is possible. I will update here once i get it done

After 9 peaceful fun filled years I have bought a new bike, continental gt 650. My pulsar 180 ug4 severed me faithfully with zero niggles and a decent fuel economy of 40-45 kmpl. My head says that i should sell it off as i would be using it lesser and lesser as time will pass, i think someone else should enjoy it now. But my heart says that I should keep it for day to day city use where taking the gt would be a pain in the ass. Moreover i do most of the service and maintenance myself so there won't be much burden on my pocket. But i could really use some cash which I would get by selling off pulsar.
          Peace

Since you've purchased a Royal Enfield I'd say it's only common sense to keep the Pulsar around, cheaper to run and maintain, plus the bullet proof reliability when it comes to long distance touring.

To put it in simple words, they simply don't make motorcycles like that anymore.

That's true and with bajaj's resale value I wouldn't get much for my bike, so it's better to keep her around

              • Re: Bajaj Pulsar 180 (All Versions)

9 years of almost fuss-free 1L+ kms ownership. Will be honest, had never expected I would complete 1L kms with it. Some pointers:

Kick-ass performance - did many mountainous rides with pillion and luggage, all without a single breakdown ever. The rush after 6K-8K that kicks in makes you go woah even today, tops out at 125 kmph and beats so many of its contemporaries even now.
Did I mention the brakes? One of the sharpest brakes across all bikes I have ever used and felt, saved my sorry ass many times from certain disasters (saying this after experiencing Yamaha, Honda range of FZ, Fazer, XBlade and so on bikes). Bajaj killed it with the entire brake assembly - simply mindblowing brakes. Life of brake pads is awesome too. 10K before they need a replacement and dirt cheap spares make it a great affair. I rode a dominar ABS version and was almost about to scream where are the damn bites! Understandably, ABS has this peculiarity of not having sharp bites but for a pulsar owner, moving on to other ABS bikes after years of riding a Pulsar, will be a shock-value change. The silver color I own still makes it stand out after a pressure-wash and spray polished look.
15L tank - Gives it a stupendous range with a mileage that hovers around 40 irrespective of how I drive it. And boy I do drive wild at times, however sane most of the time.

                The only problems I faced:
                1. One Way Rotor Assembly - The starting problem I faced at 95K were from one-way rotor assembly that failed to stop the forward rotation of the magneto in a heated engine state, thus sending the bike in never ending starting problem. I changed magneto, but fault lied within the rotor behind it that was skipping the traction of rotor bits, changing which solved it.
                2. Broken Rockerset - Rocker broke while pulling up in a traffic, and engine noise suddenly changed like something broken inside the engine chambers is consistently dancing. No it didn't stop at all. Ran over 4K kms with noise before changing it.
                3. Relay issue - This issue bugged me the most out of given all. I was about to sell it off since I had changed everything from starter motor to CDI unit. And bike used to go into self-start issue randomly. A mechanic somehow caught the issue with relay changing which got it going like new again.
                4. Ever depleting engine oil - The engine oil goes real low in just 2K kms. Piston ring and kit being new with no white smoke to talk about, I do attest this to my driving style. I often push the engine to max on all gears, but it does consume engine oil a bit much than its Honda/Yamaha/Japanese counterparts.

Engine rebuild done at 68K, clutch plate changed at 45K and then at 68K. Running on its third chainset, which is about to go out on me in next 1-2Kms. Service Center guys told me to change the coneset at 31K because they thought it had ran too much. I told them to shut up and ignore it. The dawg has been there in stock position even till now, touchwood. Not everything SC guys say, can be taken seriously.

All in all - mighty confused to update to which next bike? Often I think to pick up next version of P180 if nothing else comes close.

It has served me so well - I am unable to find a bike that matches its character, usefulness and practicality in terms of usage, spare parts availability and ownership cost. Truly satisfied beyond words. Plan to keep it as long as it starts showing up signs of Hachiko and then, I will put it to the place it belongs in retired life - country side ownership before finally letting it go.

Congratulations, the Pulsar's are tough to beat when it comes to taking abuse.

Do share details about maintenance history, make of consumable used etc, so that we may get a better idea of what were the contributing factors.

                  Cheers,

                    Thanks!

There is hardly any maintenance history to write about. Used to get it serviced in warranty every 3 months or every 5K kms from official service center. With warranty over, now I usually do it on need basis and change the engine oil myself at usually around 2000-2500 kms without fail (as wrote about engine oil depletion above), lubricate/clean chain myself, get it tightened often, lubricate movable parts and get it washed once in two months.

Engine oil I use is strictly Motul - have never needed any other brand. Engine is stress free, vibes are non-existent. Usually once in a month or in two months, I get minor service fixes or sounds checked, if I hear anything out of ordinary or get some parts change because I forget when I changed them last :P. I also make it a point to stress it out once in a week to keep the engine used to varying dynamics. The top end varies from 116-126 kmph. I don't know why and I don't care how. I see red line, I see happiness. Recently changed both of rear suspension at 96K kms after getting them refilled twice. Disk plate was changed once at 79K kms. Front suspension requires seal change every 15-20K kms. Change spark plugs every 30K. 4th battery in 9 years (Amaron 4 year warranty one, comes out real cheap). Pretty standard IMO.

And tyres, damn it, I am running on my 4th set of tyres all because of nature I drive. I pick up fast but sail at medium pace around 70, hence poor tyre bears the brunt. Currently running on Ceat Zoom, the best tyres I have used for this bike. With MRFs, I was always scared of skidding but with Ceat, I use hard rear braking just to hear the skidding sounds...for fun! Lol.

The next set of changes I can see is meter, chainset, and clutch plate (can go another 6-8K though). All thanks to dirt cheap maintenance, I can sustain the blow on my pocket. Same can't be said about another Yamaha bike in my family (FZ) whose existence we are questioning now whether we really need it in first place? Damn clutch plates on that thing cost more than a minor engine build work on Pulsar. LOL! The only shortcome on parts is that Bajaj doesn't manufacture silver colored plastic parts anymore and I have to look at the aftermarket parts unwillingly. Thought not an issue worth contemplating, but still one issue for the count.

Also, as a tip, I strongly recommend using original Bajaj or quality branded parts as I have made the mistake of using a local brand clutch wire and brake pads that blew up on my face shorter than I had projected them to fail. Besides, always get the engine rebuild done at official service centers purely for the accountability factor (I got my piston changed for free after getting the rebuild done from SC, because the white smoke had occurred within a month).

And that's about it for the machine that I intend to keep along for really long...it has been my side during my transition from a college passout kid to a grown, mature man who went on many trips mere description of which almost shot the heartbeats high of many in my circle, let alone thinking it out. While passing a nallah in Spiti, or in Munsiyari, near raghunath temple, the harleys, REs of the world were busy discussing a way out amongst their adventure riding groups, of the nallah when this dog went it like a stinger missile and came out the other end without an extra character.

Yup, do ping me up for any queries I can help with, happy to help!

Use Motul 3100 Gold and change oil at 1.5k intervals, issue would resolve itself.

Check the expiry date on the bottle of the oil, i think that's the only way to know when to change the oil date wise. There's not even S of snow in jaipur [emoji28]
