Coversion of 180 to 220
Being fed up with my 180 UG4's performance, I thought of doing something i.e. upgrading it to 220. Not just the looks, but the entire bike. Now I found tht both the bikes have a lot in common, but I am not really sure about what things can be retained and what all needs to be changed. I need your help on this. My plans are as follows:
1. 220 Engine- Although both the engines look pretty much alike, but there are quite a lot of differences. Can I turn those differences into similarities? Can I fully upgrade the 180CC engine to 220 including the Oil Cooler, 220 Carb etc. Will I get a complete 220 engine kit or will I have to buy the things separately. And what will be the estimated cost?
2. 220 Rear Disk- I found on the internet that for disk brake upgrade, i would need to replace the swing arm, alloys and a few more things. What other things need to be replaced and what would be the cost?
3. 220 Exhaust- Will i have to install the exhaust of 220, or can I continue using the 180 exhaust? What are your views on using a FFE? What would be the estimated cost in both the cases?
4. 220 Electrical System- I read somewhere that 220's electrical system is more powerful than 180 and if 220 parts are directly installed, they might end up damaging the CDI.
5. 220F Body Kit- Can the entire body kit of 220 including the instrument cluster be installed on 180? If yes then what would be the estimated cost?
Please help me out! I am really fed up of my bike's performance. I have a total budget of 25000. Can everything be done under my budget?
Thanks in advance!

Sell your 180, add 25k to the money you get for the 180 and pick up a used 220.Originally posted by mototech View PostBeing fed up with my 180 UG4's performance, I thought of doing something i.e. upgrading it to 220. Not just the looks, but the entire bike.

If you are hell bent on modding the current 180, check with 'raceconcepts' ([email protected]) if they can soup up your 180.. iirc they had a 210cc bore kit upgrade and a reworked head. Remember the quality of the parts and labour (knowledgeable labor) will make or break your build!

But is there any possibility of plonking in 220's stock engine directly with slight mods? I don't really want to buy an used motorcycle especially when its a Bajaj 😂
And reliability isn't an issue as I have already bought an Avvy 220 Cruise for all the important work

I have pulsar 180cc ug4 2010 model. clocked at 44300km Odo reading. all stock company sealed engine i did a long drive Delhi to Agra 496km it was a round trip with proper care and maintenance healthy as new engine. i also gave rest to its engine at every 80km ride for 10 to 20minutes or a gap of 1hr of continus riding. drove at 100-110km/h speed at no more than 9000k rpm viz below red line rpm.
Here's the problem i wanna discuss with you.
after this long drive my bajaj pulsar 180cc engine starts making a Metal Rod Knocking sound, gives black smoke at higher rpms seems like un-burnt fuel. wornout cluth plates, reduced pickup and top speed, jammed rear wheel if i try to move vehicle in gear by pressing clutch but feels normal if i move on neutral gear.
My mechanic said
metal knocking sound is coming from crank complete engine overhaul will be require to repair that damaged crank.
clutch need to be change with clutch cover.
timing chain need replacement too as it also creating a tik tik sound.

what do you guys says?
what are the additional replacement i will be ready for i mean when my mechanic disassemble my pulsar engine?
is it worth to fix? or to sell? why?

Re: Pulsar 2010 Model Rebuild or Sell...?
the mechanic could probably be right. get a second opinion at an authorized service center. going by your description, only a proper inspection of the bike can a detailed repair breakdown be given.Originally posted by Pulsarboy180 View PostStill waiting for comments..
a proper rebuild with new parts will cost you around 10k~15k:
some of the parts involved will be:
1. clutch plates (friction and pressure plates) and springs.
2. Timing chain
3. Valves (inlet/exhaust), valve guides and springs.
4. crank shaft (reuse if possible or a new one, new one will )
5. probably a new bore-piston kit
5. various bearings in the engine
6. gaskets

Re: Pulsar 2010 Model Rebuild or Sell...?
A similar thing happened to me, but in my case during the ride. Though there was hardly any difference in riding, the engine was making weird noises. Also, the bike was not accelerating smoothly. I took the bike to Bajaj ASSC and they told me that the engine needs to be overhauled and the chain sprockets need to be changed. They gave an estimate of about Rs. 18,000. But my local mechanic fixed the problem about Rs. 7000. He just replaced the clutch assembly excluding the clutch cover, and the chain sprockets too. He also tightened the loose tappets. This completely solved my problem. The reason behind this, according to the mechanic, was low engine oil level and/or improper carburetor settings and already worn out clutch plates. This isn't a big issue according to him thoughOriginally posted by Pulsarboy180 View Post

Pulsar 180 pick up and mileage problem
Hi All,
I bought pulsar 180 4 months back.. 6000km and 3 services are completed. Everything was perfect till yesterday.. I used to get good mileage of 40 - 45 and quick pick up.. Yesterday i had a plan of going for long ride of 400km round trip on NH7.. So I have completely tighten up my rear brake on my own.. For some time it was good only. I have travelled with 115 - 125 speed for some time.. I don't understand what has happened but the pick up got reduced and mileage has became 20 - 25 kmpl And top speed is hardly 115.. I thought it is may be because of long stretch, so had a break of 1 hour.. But even after that also it is behaving the same way..
Can anyone please help me.. Will the tightening of break have an impact on pickup and mileage..?
If I make the brake loose, then rear break is not getting applied.. What should I do..?
Thanks in advance.

Good that you raised same question with owners of pulsar180 and hornet160 in this forum.Originally posted by ashisharia View PostI have to buy new bike and am confused with Pulsar 180 and Hornet? Me too confused with same choices of bike.
Now decided to buy pulsar180. The new model got more refinement and powerful headlamp.
I am bit confused with electric start alone configuration, As I use to park bike for 2 months continually.
Hornet got its own minus too... One weird about honda engines(noticed on shine, Unicorn and also review from hornet forum) is the cold starting issues. Not acceptable to get such issue with a highly praised reliable Honda engines. Spare parts are overpriced.

...? whats your daily commute? mine was gone at 44,000km after a single long drive with sane driving if i didn't make that long drive i pulsar would be alive as showroom condition.
