hmm, have you checked it multiple times preferably with fuel from a different pump ? Or maybe you should try measuring it this way:
1. Fill up tank - note meter reading
2. Ride 200km
3. Fill up tank again
4. Calc mileage as: 200 divided by No. of liters taken in at step 3 above
Anyway do report the low mileage.. and do let us know what you get after the first service.. ideally you should be getting 38kmpl+ unless you rip every time you ride and if used for shorter rides frequently.

I did check thrice. It's exactly the same - 27 km/l. Would get back to you after the 1st service! Cheers!

• Re: Bajaj Pulsar 180 (All Versions)

Hi all,

Had my first service with the dealership workshop itself. However, I have to share the experience I've had and what followed!

After the service was done, the ASC guy calls me up and asks me to collect my bike. I reach the place, pay the necessary charges (incl. the overpriced Bajaj Engine Oil) and then head towards the bike, which was parked outside, with the service advisor. To our utter shock we realize that the bike keys were missing!! A long process of search followed but to no avail. Eventually, they promised me that they will get a duplicate made after I get the other key, which I'd kept in my house, the next day.

I got they key the next day and gave it to them, but decided that I'll complain about their irresponsibility to the Bajaj authorities. I quickly went online and logged a complaint on the Bajaj website. Believe it or not, I got a call from the Regional Service head within 5 minutes! I told him, the real issue is not that a duplicate will be made, but if a miscreant has possession of my key and he steals my bike from somewhere. He agreed it indeed was a genuine issue and will be looked into immediately. Exactly 22 mins later the dealer's service manager calls me and takes stock of the situation, I tell him the whole story again. He assures me of immediate action, I suggested that he change the entire lock-set, starting from the ignition lock, tank lock to the side panel lock. 30 mins after, the ASC guys call me and tell me the bike is ready with a new lock-set!

I reach the ASC and I am greeted by the Bajaj service regional representative sent by the head. He told me he was here to see what went wrong and that even the owner has been called in. He then showed me that the locks have been changed and asked if there's anything else that needs to be checked. I showed him that my RPM needle was still fluctuating, to which he directed the ASC guys to make adjustments with the tappet clearance. He supervised the whole thing and ensured it was fixed after which I drove away happily.

All in all, I am quite unhappy with the ASC guys since I had to go through hell because of them (I haven't told you guys the whole story to keep it precise), but I'm pleasantly surprised by the Bajaj regional service team's swift response. It was all done in 1 hour flat after I logged my complaint online! Kudos to the Bajaj management for such awesome customer service!

I suggest to all you P180 owners, if your issues remain un-addressed by the ASC guys, please go here and log a complaint.

Cheers!

Well, metalmaniac said he was unhappy with the ASC. It was the complaint he lodged with bajaj that got the asc working to resolve the issues he faced. I am yet to come across an asc (be it any brand) that are friendly and helpful out of the box !
metalmaniac , do let us know what mileage you get now .. hopefully its improved from 26kmpl.

The mileage that I observed before giving the vehicle for service was at 31 kmpl. Yet to measure the improvement after service. Will come back with that in a week. Also, the fluctuating RPM issue has creeped in again even after the tappet adjustment was done, it was fine at the ASC. The Bajaj service team guy will come over to the workshop again to have it fixed. Let's see.

Tappet adjustment has to be done a damm cold engine, if done on a hot or even warm engine it will be off at hotter it colder temperatures.

Its probably due to the temp. Diffrence of the air and your engine( read its now cooler). I dont suppose it should be so pronounced that its noticeable

what he meant is when you do the valve adjustment engine should not be hot. as when hot metal expands ( metallurgical property) and you wont get correct reading/measurement for the clearance. the engine should be cold to get precise adjustment.

for ex : if manufacturer states 13mm of clearance for inlet valve.. it might show 14 when engine is hot but might come down to 15mm when engine i cold as metal contracts.

Well, not surprisingly, the ASC guys did the setting when it was well warmed up. That says it I guess. Anyway, the dealership service manager called up and asked me to bring down the vehicle to get it fixed again. I'll suggest them to have the engine cool down before doing any adjustments.

that explains it. tell them politely to do it when the engine is cool.
valve running with more clearance will also make some clatter and some vibes but nothing beyond it.
but valve clearance below the mentioned spec can actually be more dangerous. in some cases causes engine pinging or knocking.

Hi guys, just came back from the ASC. The issue was that at idle my rpm was flickering between 900-1000 rpm. The ASC service supervisor after inspection told me its natural with all vehicles. So I told him to show me a brand new Pulsar 180 and a used one so that I can verify the same. To my utter embarrassment both vehicles had the same fluctuating RPM at idle, with a variation of about 100-150 RPM.

So I came back telling him "alright buddy".
