  • Re: Bajaj Pulsar 180 (All Versions)

    Hi All,

Went to another ASC that is attached to the main dealer. Met the service manager there and he directed his mechanics to check the fuel economy problem. They found that the AFR was set to a richer mixture and hence this drop in FE. They promptly set it to a neutral mixture and after riding it for sometime now I don't see any drop in performance. Have to wait for the next fuel test now!

Well in my case I changed to moto 4 gold 20w50 at

      350 km first time,
      700 km second time
      1400 km third time
      2000 km forth time.
And since my first change I have been only using moto 4 gold I have completed 2500 km since 21st of January 2014 when I bought my bike. Did 122 km/hr in the third change of oil slowly slowly. Now she rides very comfortably . Well in my opinion since this is my third pulsar I have seen just two engine oils which this lovely machine of ours is very comfortable with is moto 4gold 20w50 and motul 15 w50 but seeing the pocket I guess moto 4 gold is the best on pockets. It your choice at the end of the day which one to put.

        3. Since I changed oil 400 kms back could not find much difference
        4. Could not find any oil deposits.

        1. Air filter is new, and cleaned recently.
        2. spark plugs are new and wires dont have any crack
        3. Yes, there is sound like sewing machine when observed closely.
Your valve clearances are not set properly also your bike requires clutch adjustment. Do the valve or tappet adjust in a stone cold engine. Leave the bike not running for 3 hours plus before adjustment.

Guys my bike consume 2ltr engine oil within 4500km.and it consume about 150-180ml oil after covering 700km when riding 60kmph plus speed.pickup is little bit less but no problem in the top speed.no oil. Leakage but I found the nut bolt that are below the engine kick side.they are covered with engine oil only 3nuts.engine makes sime mettle sound.bike has covered 50400km with 40%hard ripping red line.

Lots of reason can make engine consume oil , first and foremost check all the possible areas for leakage, crankcase drain plug, and the areas where you are seeing oil, damaged or worn out main bearings throws excess of oil, which then flows to the crankcase and then pushed into the cylinders.Just check the areas for leakage and refill the oil and then check again.

                • Help required ! Pulsar 180 , mechanics have given up !

                  I have a 2007 Pulsar 180 UG3.

The bike has done more than 50000 kms and these are the major repairs carried out.
at 40,000 kms New cylinder Kit , valves , piston.
                  at 45,000 new clutch

I have a Knn filter too and it has been cleaned and oiled recently.
I am running this setup since the past 7 years without any problems.

in 2013 the bike was completely standing for 7-8 months.

After that i got it serviced, replaced the battery etc.
Also got the carburetor cleaned atleast 10 times from different mechanics.

                  The problems

When i accelerate the bike NEVER goes beyond 7000 rpms and after 6000 rpm it chokes badly. (It hits 100 in 5th gear max )
Sometimes with speeds less than 15kmph the bike just stalls.
Once i got it serviced and carburetor cleaned it was running perfect, hit 10000 rpm but while slowing down it stalled again.
After that within 5 minutes the problem came back.
Presently if I open the throttle fully, it just chokes badly and refuses to go beyond 5000 rpm, below that it is smooth.
If i open the accelerator smoothly, it eventually hits 8000 rpm after a long time but then it just chokes very badly.

The mechanic says (he is an ex-HH mechanic) That the engine and clutch are in perfect condition.

I dont know what to do and my Leh-Ladhak ride is coming up within 20 days so i need a solution fast !

There is also a small crack because of rusting at the end of the exhaust pipe.
There was a small crack in the Air intake pipe but i fixed it with some Mseal and it did not make any difference.

                  Please help !

Knn and no mention of jetting... man why do people use knn?!:banghead: on regukar setup engine knn does more harm then good. Air intake pipe is actually a rubber hose.. air filter to carb 60rs carb to engine 45rs:banghead: jublee clips extra if old ones are kaput at 10rs a piece. Also, your afr is mega screwed... get back to stock reliable form. get normal afr set and enjoy
Check for water in tank aswell. But its definetly a carb afr kind of issue.
Best of luck on the leh ride. Post pics or a link to the travelogue. May god bless you

I am running Karizma jet ever since installing Knn.

I will get the tank cleaned and a new Intake pipe, and the carb cleaned again. Then i'll see what happens.

Anyone knows how much a new carb costs ?

And. My bike mileage has dropped fiercely yet again. After setting the AFR to a leaner mixture I now am getting a mileage of 32 kmpl. I'm clueless and frustrated. Don't know what is wrong.

Did you try 100ml mileage-can test ? If not then ask SVC personnel to arrange one for you. Find a 5-6 kms stretch of flat & straight road for better results.
