        • Confused between Hero Honda Hunk and Pulsar 180.

180 why? because its better than 150 IMO.

Why Hunk? because of pillion comfort and better Mileage.

Hunk is in option because i've heard pulsar needs more service and spares replacement - I'm a college student so you know i think must avoid such things :P

          My requirements.

          1. Mileage doesnt matter.
          2. Budget 80k.
          3. Pillion comfortable.
          4. Less maintenence cost.
          5. 150 cc +.
          6. Reliablity to go on GOOD for some years (3 minimum).

reading this i know what you all are gonna say :P. Nopes no Honda Unicorn i dont like the style

          Just these 3.

          1. Hunk
          2. Pulsar 180
          3. yamaha Fz-s

I would have gone for Fzs but need comfy Pillion seating too thats why these two are preferred ,

asking this here because only pulsar users can let me know more about pulsars maintenence and experience.

your inputs are precious , please do reply to me, thanks.

            • She is back

Finally was able to rev over 8,000rpm. Speeds were 115 and 120kmph.
So happy, the oil was the culprit. I have posted this info in the oil thread but for our reference as we use 180 UG-IV.

This is one of the crappiest oil i have ever seen in my entire 2,30,533 kms of riding...Most pathetic oil.

Degraded performance is surely expected, i might be wrong choosing it as first of all its grade is not mentioned, and the new one which specifies to be 10w50 is nothing but liquid diluted to look like cocunut oil, atleast Bajaj SVC oil is much better than this.

Observations after filling the engine with this oil, Pulsar 180 UG-IV
              - Bike resists to go over 8,000rpm or 110kmph.
              - Gear shifting is very hard.
              - Low end torque is not at all great since its a pulsar which is superb for low end torques.
              - Fuel average gone for toss, eats up most of the engine power, There is a direct calculation for low average. Since the bike resists to go over 8,000rpm you are completely opening the throttle in such case. The fuel supply is maximum but you aint getting that type of response. Privious used oils full throttle use to be around 9,500 rpm straight red lining and speeds around 120kmph, now at 110kmph full throttle and max fuel usage.
              - Engine overheating, i could sense the heat while riding over 30mins of time be early morning.
              - After draining the mech says there is hardly any oil left in your bike, good you changed it now or else your engine might have jammed.
              - Forget the charge being 700 or something, i have paid more at times for ELF or even the Motul but those oils trully deserve that much cost, this is so freaking bad in quality, i would rather go for mineral. As mineral oil is much better in comparison than this one.

This is what i faced in the last 2,000kms. Yet it said that this one can last for 7,500 kms. I think they said your engine will last that long only

My personal advice please dont use it if you have a Pulsar 180 UG-IV, about others iam not sure...

Which oil? Castrol Power 1 Fully Synthetic oil? I am using the same one and it is going good. Might be your oil was not the original one.

Yes the castrol power 1 racing stuff 10w50, its a new one costing rs 699. Btw i had won it through XBHP castrol contest only. I have no clue about it, right now iam using Motul 3100 Gold 20w50 costing rs 310. Its simply good, retarding force is smoothened out and gear shifts are quick too.

I dont know how its working for you but yes i assume it to be duplicate...cz the performance was simply pathetic.

Iam glad that the noise is low, btw please check your rear brake spring, it might be twisted, thats why that khat khat sound might be coming. Its located near the brake hub and connected to the right side foot brake lever.

I too got it from xBhp contest, now wondering about the performance through this one. I will be keeping a close watch on this oil now after your case and change if anything abnormal is found. For now it is feeling good and the oil levels are normal even after a 450kms trip on which I redlined the bike badly.

I see, Btw check some workings on your bike -
                        - Take it near redline see if you can top it up the way you use too on previous versions of oils.
                        - Mid range will be good, i guess thats the speciality of the oil
                        - PLEASE KEEP CHECKING OIL LEVELS, VERY IMPORTANT. NOT EVEN 700 ML OF OIL WAS LEFT AFTER 2,000 KMS.
                        - Check for retardation force, see if you can hear the silencer sound breaking when complete retardation force comes into effect.
                        - Tremendous drop in average - 30kmpl
                        - Heating at times.

                        good luck mate

yeah...it seems like a duplicate stuff as castrol is famous for duplicates...
motul may follow in near future...

                          yes for sure friend..
and one more thing, now that kil..kil sound is gone..it was that rear foot rest where that washer like thing was loose and making sound. just tightened it using plier and sound is gone now.

Bike is performing better than before. Pick-up is good and no other problems at higher rpms. Oil level has been a problem with my bike, last time I changed the oil it was found tobe some 800-900 ml only. And this has happened a couple of times. For now the oil level is normal.

                              • What contest guys? I must have missed something.
@Eshan: Great to know that the bike problem has been resolved. Castrols are not bad, even they do come close to motuls but as I said earlier, getting of genuine pack is extremely rare. Until the time is right lets stay away from Castrol. You should switch permanently to motul 5100 semi-synthetic after 1500km. Because that 3100 mineral is good but dies before 200km.

Anyway I'm on motul 300v fully synthetic for more than 4000 kms. Mine is running fine. except the small acceleration punch has lost after the servicing. That normal for the bike after serviced at bajaj. It has always came back. After hard ripping bike is giving 45+ avg. I'll refill oil after 1000km or so.
