Friends go and take me along, not a tourer :P. If you go for long rides, always check your oil level before the trip and if in slightest of doubt, keep some for top up.

Pulsar tends to drink oil on long rides @ constant high revs.

    • Does engine oil affect the working of the engine??

I mean its new for the Castrol 10w50 and iam serious trouble with top end speed. Couple of days back it refused to go over 8,000rpm or 110kmph to be precise. The lean and rich mixture was rectified and I thought it to be the culprit, But it isnt...Its quite balanced and tuned for performance than average...

So now what is it that is stopping it to go over 110 kmph or 8,000rpm??

Please let me know as i really think its soon gonna screw up the engine...

From my calculations i have drawn that it is either

      1) Wrong grade oil, does not suit my Pulsar engine as iam trying this for the 1st time.

      or

      2) Oil level to be low thats why the engine is struggling at higher revs.

Please let me know what can be done...Also this current engine oil has clocked around 2,500kms... its a fully synthetic so iam hoping it to last 4,500 - 5,000kms atleast.

@ abhichotu.abhi nice pics there buddy...
The bike looks so pure and rejuvenating
Also let me know when you coming on 4th would be great to meet you...

It is quite possible because as many expert here say that market is flooded with duplicate castrol oil. 95% castrol found in the market is duplicate. Even dealers don't have clue about it.
Or may be your clutch plates are worn out.

            Check:

            1) Chain (if it is too tight which is what I suspect to be the case, as you have changed the chain and sprocket now only, do this: Loosen up the chain a litttle so that it has atleast 2 cm play and then try.)

            2) Too tight tappets

            3) Clogged air filter

P.S: First try the chain trick, I am sure it will take care of the problem.
P.P.S: Will be in Pune at 4th and 5th, we will for sure meet and try if you can plan a ride?

              1) The Chain settings are perfect, got it checked from my own bike mech...he adjusted it last eve but today morning ride to office i face the same problem.

              2) This I might have to check.

              3) Replaced the Air Filter on last servicing, clocked around 400kms after that.

Lets see how things go regarding Tappet Settings now.

Btw do you think Oil can be a contributor??

Oil could be a factor only when it is too much viscous. I mean 10w50 is okay, indeed better than the recommended. Try loosening the chain and then try again, keep aside perfect settings and go by trial and error method.

When you take it above 105/110 does it feel like if the bike is putting in a lot of effort, somewhat like it is being dragged ?
and when you slow down to 90, the engine comes back to normal with a small jerk ?

It is better to look for auxiliary lights then fitting 220 Projector setup. 220 setup might cost some 8-9K Rs. With it you will have to upgrade the alternator too. Which might cost another thousand Rs. Instead sell the bike and go for 220. Or do some DIY, like upgrade the charging coil and alternator which might cost under 2-3K Rs.

                          Yes, a lot.

when it crosses 7,000rpm to be precise....you feel iam slavering the engine and it doesnt go ahead, if a slope present then yes it does not struggle but in normal roads yes a lot...

And then when the acceleration reduces below 7,000rpm you feel the bike is now stable...A lot better, no drag nothing.

Now its quite perfect when kept below 7,000 rpm but just when you cross that mark things kinda get messy..

Do you know what it is that is causing this problem.

@ Abhi - Yes i checked the chain setup yest and also adjusted the Tappet settings...today morning ride its the same, doesnt go above 8,000rpm man..

                              Hi guys,

This is Amod here. I've recently moved to Bangalore. I own a classic 180. I want to know of any good mechanics in the vicinity of Indira Nagar (I stay close to CMH road). I'm facing issues with the front brakes (mostly the fluid has leaked cause there's no resistance when I use the brakes).

Will be a huge favour guys. Is it worth visiting the Bajaj service station? Not sure if they over-charge, typical of what most company owned service station do. Thanks a ton.

                              -Amod.

Bajaj charge upto 200Rs. and still won't do any good job(just had an experience). About good mechanic, i think, there's no one from Bangalore active on this thread. You should ask about this in Bangalore G2G thread.
