Motul Oils in 3100 series which come with M065MOTxxx JASO certification# are from Singapore licence => perhaps cheaper.
Motul Oils in 3100 series which come with M033MOTxxx JASO certification# are from France licence => perhaps pricier.

Motul Scooter expert 10w30 JASO-MB had Singapore licence & it was cheaper like local minerals.

Try to lean towards JASO-MA2(2011) for wet-clutch motorcycles. Not sure if 3100 are equivalent to 5100 series, but definitely not better.

Hi guys, I finally went ahead with Motul 5100 15W50 after much deliberation. And man, within 5 kms did I notice the difference! The gearbox, which I so hated with its notchy feel, has now become smooth and shifts are positive (earlier, I used to have a lot of gear-slips). I can't comment on the smoothness of the engine yet, but yes, when I revved the engine high up the kind of resistance, loss of power and vibrations I would encounter earlier was not there! Wohoo!

I know you guys would see this quick-review as a bit of an exaggeration but trust me the results have been pretty evident to me! I'm only waiting now for the effect of the oil to properly set in after a few more kms.

Cheers all and thanks for your help on choosing the right oil! The Bajaj engine oil sure was crap!

Update: Morning cold start is a breeze now! Earlier the bike would struggle and I would've had to use 1 or 2 attempts before it starts the engine without it stopping on its own. Even in traffic one attempt was enough which always not the case earlier! Wohoo!

See that's the difference a good oil can make to your bike engine, oil is like healthy food for your body.Just change the oil in time and enjoy the ride, but do wear proper riding gear.

        CHEERZ!

Is your bike emitting white smoke, check the quantity of the engine oil, condition of the spark plugs, check the compression of your bike engine first, i dont think that in just 1700kms you might be having engine problems unless there is some manufacturing defect, and even if it's manufacturing defect your bike will be in warranty period so company should change the troublesome part free of cost.Don't show your bike to local mechanic just take it to authorised service centre first and see what they have to say.Sometimes due to overfilling of the engine oil also exhaust tip gets wet as the excess oil is burned.

Did you follow the run in period properly at 1789 km the piston can only be bad because of running the vehicle harsh or without proper engine oil. Show your vehicle to asc

If yes which oil would you suggest for a bike which rides 30 km in the city daily in bad traffic. The Motul 3100 or 5100 or any other product? I'm definitely looking for better mileage here without heftily compromising on performance.

Motul 3100. Switch to 5100 around 4k kms. Dont ever use bajaj oil, its THE crappiest oil

Guys, I noticed this yesterday. While slowing down, in first gear, if i am leaving my clutch and accelerator, the speed is reducing and the engine knocks a bit till 5-6kmph. After that it is running constantly at that speed without accelerator. If i am depressing/releasing clutch, its making no difference. I m unable to understand the issue. A truck wala banged me from behind at a red light, might it be the cause?

Theres no issue as such, but as your enging is still running-in, you should avoid semi synth oils. Still, i dont think it would affect much.

Take care of your new bike and stay under the rev-limit till 2k.

Relax.. If you are happy with 5100 stick to it. There are cheaper (price wise) oils in the market that work just as well on our desi bikes.. some of them are elf , valvoline, shell. Stick to the right grade and it will be fine.
btw.. any update on your mileage tests done using tankfull to tankfull method ?

                          a question, why 15w50?

instead, go for 20w50 Motul 7100(synthetic) or 3100 (semi). both are excellent. i have been using them on my 2003 model
for almost last 4 years now. no complains, zero clutch slippage, smoother gear shifts and unbelievably long clutch plate life too.

i hope Bajaj is still recommending 20w50 for current generation 180s? not sure?

Hi, Motul 3100 is mineral and is just okayish. Yes, Bajaj recommends 20W50, but 15W50 is safe.

Could be leakage or theft. Can you replace the fuel petcock with a lock and key type ?
