Now, i have 2 things to ask about...

    1. i was wondering if i could switch to synthetic oil now...but someone told me that you should not directly switch from mineral to synth. what should i do and what oil should i go for? i want to change oil as bajaj oil sucks bad.

    2. since after the service, i am having this issue in rear brakes. now, its not a regular issue, its happening once in a while. i am getting a "backfire" feeling sometimes when i m applying it. its making a tuck sound and pushes itself up (i dont know if i am explaining it properly)

also if anyone could advice me what to do with the shitty headlight
Kick the guy who said no mineral to synthetics directly :banghead: though I think motul synthetics are a bit too expensive and you have to do a lot of top up since they vaporise. Hence id go with motul 5100. 15w50 or 20w50. During winters go with 7100 or 300v.

Brake pads needs checking and your brake return spring is sticking(30rs) or there is an issue with the rear drum. Open and inspect.

There is nothing better than motul for a bajaj. Synthetics will fall in level you will need topup. Just get 1 liter motul 5100 I doubt you will want to chabge to anything else. And its between motul 3100 and 7100 in price and lasting too! 500 odd rs.

I am using moto 4gold 20w50 from the very beginning my bike rocks with this oil yes I have tried motul on my previous 180 I never found any difference its just that you are relax on your head with the fact we have motul. But I am happy with moto 4gold 260rs for 2500- 3000 km I guess its worth it. The gear are smooth the pickup everything is class with this oil getting an fe of 50.
Even the neutral comes comfortably no need to shut the vehicle. I am happy its just that I am saying all this here so that those who feel motual to be heavy on there pocket they can go for this oil.

            Hello friends ,
It has been a long time since I logged to xbhp as I forgot my old user name , but was able to revive it from some old emails. phew ..
I own an FTB 180 which is nearing 10 year in service (Jan 2015) and clocked around 64k kms . Its almost stock except the exhaust which when rusted was replaced by aftermarket one. Off late I have been facing issues with power and pickup and the bike does not have any power post 3k rpm and is terrible with a pillion.
My mechanic says that cylinder kit need to be replaced but I dont see any smoke from the exhaust which makes be believe that rings and pistons are ok .
I was using Motul non syntheticClick image for larger version

Get a compression test done and compare with the factory recommended readings.. hopefully you can find an asc or a local mech who can do this
It could also be due to worn out clutch plates and springs.

Does a local mech can check the compression ? I'm not sure asc will take the bike for check up because they first blame the after market silencer. I have seen some bike with mods were rejected by asc from service back in 2006-07 .
The cluth were replaced some 10-15k back by my mechanic.
Can any one suggest a good mechanic in trivandrum whom I can trust .off late i feel my mech is charging a lot . Last time I was charged for 400 service (just cleaning, checking, tighten etc) with me supplying the oil.

                  Hi All,

Does anyone know if the use of Diamond chain lube is advisable? How good is it compared to Motul's?

i doubt if a local mech will have a compression guage.. they normally go by their instinct by giving the bike a few kicks..desi style An experienced mech could be accurate in diagnosing weak compression, but if you want to see real readings it will require a compression guage. also it might just require adjusting the valve clearances correctly or replacing/reseating the existing valves.
So you will need to check:
                    1. compression and valve adjustments
                    2. clutch assembly
I highly suspect the clutch components. Either it needs to be adjusted or the plates(friction and pressure) and springs need replacement.

                      Thanks s1d.
The bike rides as if I'm trying to accelarate with brakes on.I could also hear some sort of grinding noise in 2nd gear at low rpms.

Lets put it this way.. Diamond is a TI group brand (remember ti cycles? bsa ?) and they are oem chain suppliers and also sell after market chain/sprocket kits.
I have used diamond chain kits in the past and never had a problem.
Now coming to down the chain lube.. considering their expertise in making chains, i do not see why their chain lube should be any inferior to motul. IMO, the cheapest (price wise) chain lube would be 90 Gear oil , and the ones that come is fancy spray cans would be just as good with the added convenience of portability & ease of application.
Whatever you use, don't over do or neglect it.

Difficult to give you advice on this without riding the bike.. first check the items i have mentioned earlier, and if you still have issues..try another mechanic to see what he has to say.

After market exhaust is an eye sore and is sure to screw up your engine unless made by someone who knows what he is doing....
Run the bike on high rpm at stand still... any white smoke? next try to kick start the bike... kick feels weak and smooth and loose or hard? bike engine oil level is same or has it fallen? Open the spark plugs... any shiny hard oily deposits?

                            Hi friends,

I am having pulsar 180 the pickup is very less compared to the new bike when I bought. My friend has suggested me to go with pulsar 200 block and piston which makes more power in my bike. I have small query that is there a direct fitment of pulsar 200 cylinder block and piston on pulsar 180. What changes has to be made if there is no direct fitment ? Experts share your light on this issue and help me know what can be done.

                            Thanks and regards,
                            Anand

                              Hi Divyansh ,
                              Thanks .
I tried the after market exhaust simply because I liked this over the stock one. The newer silencers from bajaj is of inferior build that it will soon show signs of rust after a monsoon. I did not wanted to spend 4k to rust again. The current one is basically the end can welded to the pipe.
I'll check the points you suggested and post. I did service last week and my mech told me that oil level was low.

Want a better sounding exhaust that wont rust, is ment for a pulsar, is oem and looks sexy like a missile launcher? Get the chrome original old model round headlamp pulsar. These aftermarket ones will screwe your vales up.
