      Your mixture is correct as your idling is stable. Your bike is feeling rich because your compression is down and a engine with compression low gives the same feeling as a bike bike running rich. The first symptom of low compression is your bike feeling rich with correct tuning.

      Damn these service centers. I have re-built my friends karizma engine in an evening. What happened is that my friend zma engine was requiring a overhaul. I gave him the list of parts and he got it from my retailer friend that too with 7% discount.
      Then when i returned from office at 6 my mechanic and i opened the engine in 45 mins. Then i went and sat near the lathe and fit a new con-rod and reconditioned the crank. When i returned my mechanic had already cleaned the engine with kerosene and cleaned the head.
      Then we sat and started fitting the engine with new parts. The engine fitting completed in 1 hour and was loaded into chassis in 30 mins. The next morning the bike was idles for 2 hours and then tuned and my friend took it.
      This was for a full engine overhaul.
      For bore piston change a maximum of 1.5 hour is required.
      Any chennai xbhpian, please help him to get a good garage.
      And regarding engine oil honda and hero honda, both engine oils are provided by TIDE WATER, the makers of VEEDOL brand oil. Usually we use hero honda oil when new and thus feel hard gearshift and think oil is bad.
      But a hero honda engine takes 10k for completely getting free.
      Use hero honda oil and you will find the bike is smooth.
      If you are happy with honda oil then try VEEDOL TAKE OFF 10W 30 that comes in black color bottle, you will love it. You will not shift to other oil.
      If you want more better oil then use VEEDOL SUPER SWIFT 10W 40 semi synthetic and you will feel it the best oil that you have ever used. It comes at RS.330 and i have used it many times. I am yet to find a better engine oil than it. i have run the oil for 5k without changing in my joy and still the oil was performing without any problem.
      And mileage difference between 10W 30 and 20W 40 is as much as 8-10 kpl.
      And leave honda testing i have tested the same in my extreme and i can verify it easily without any hiccup.

        • Today at 10 AM i got this call from hero and this guy told me he is General manager at anand automobiles and he will like to have a talk in private -I said i will be there in 30 mins and when go to the showroom asked for the GM - he came out shook my hands and immediately starts apologizing for the way the staff behaved with me - i was like is this for real or am i dreaming .

          taking this as a opportunity i asked him if i can get the bore package after checking it is from USHA or SAL as their sales person is adamant of me not opening the package- then only he asked what the problem was - i told why i am afraid to leave the bike in their care as they once didnt even fill the engine oil to minimum mark and one of his mech didnt even know how to set a tappet - he made me run around a lot .

          Again he apologized for all the trouble and said he only took over 2 months ago and made a lot of changes - and mine was the only direct complaint to hero HQ in the last 3 yrs - so he told me to give the bike to him and he himself will make sure the bike is taken care off .

          The he accompanied me to the service area - and directed this supervisor who he said is a expert in Xtreme and told him in get the best mech to look after my ride - they exchanged a few words on which mech is the right one for the job and finally he told the supervisor "we lost this customer for ever but now we have the chance to get him back so do it right " - i was like .

          I asked him if i can watch the mech open the engine - he was not at all comfortable allowing anyone on the service floor -he said there are CCTV in service etc so its not possible to go and take peek blah blah blah but he said he is responsible for my bike that i need not worry .

          I was in such a shock that chor anand motors actually has a heart and care for their customers .The supervisor started the engine and told him about the hard gear changes - he said he will look into it - asked me to come to the showroom after they open the engine and they will tell me what all needs replacement - he said he will call tomorrow - so i left he bike with them - i told i need this bike trouble free for the next 40K -and left .

          Also he told me to send a mail back again to hero saying the problem is solved with anand motors - i was like isnt this too early to make such claims ? but didnt say anything
          to that effect - just told him i know what to do and will do it right .

          Hope they dont charge a bomb for the repair and walked straight to meenakshi temple they had a long queue and prayed for the bikes well being as its going through a major operation and returned home .

          @ Sin bun shocked to know the diff in mileage is that much

          they asked me for 3 whole days to fix my bike - mostly they will touch the bike only tomorrow .

            Since i do the work mostly by myself, I have no experience with any of the ASCs, hence couldn't guide @ Sarbonoxley to any specific ASC,...I had already given enough feedback to him, and hope he gets his engine set properly.....

              Just came back from SC where they opened the engine in front of me only -they showed me the bore and said it has scratches all over it - and they told me to run the fingers through the side walls and i felt like it was uneven and dipping slightly inside but only felt it for a moment - will get the old bore and take a few snaps tomorrow - It was all done by the head mech and even the General manager came by to see how the work is going.

              The head mech said the CON ROD is in good shape as i took care of maintaining the correct engine oil level - ony if he knew my short runs to chennai with only 550 ml of oil - PSR sir luck was on my side today .

              I didnt know the bore could be opened this quickly - the head mech opened it in mins and the supervisor said new valves +piston+bore kit along with the labor charges will come to 6K max - is that price ok guys?

              They will start the work tomorrow at 9AM only after i give them the packing kit i bought earlier - the bore kit i opened and checked it was SAL not USHA - think sibun wont like this part .

              Just like sriram told me i didnt have a permanent marker with me at the time so i took a ball polint pent and made some mark on the old bore also have told them i need the old kit back.

              Sorry guys i didnt have camera with me as they told me they will open the engine only tomorrow - but they changed their mind when i paid them a casual visit today evening - will get the snaps tomorrow if they allow me .

              • Hi Guys,Did my last free service @ 12200 Kms today. I am on my own now. Told them about many issues i am facing but none of them is fixed.
                1)My rear brake is making huge screeching sound frm last few days.no matter what time it is. i havent changed my brake pad till nw may be thats y . . .

                2)a drift is felt in the rear side in between i m riding. as if rear part is having some swing/drift in left side. balance doesnt seems good.these 2 issues are coming into play from last few days.

                3)Gears are very harsh.currently using castrol 20W40. any other reason for this hard gear shifting?/ improper clutch pressing while gear change or else ??

                4)last bt not the least. strange sound coming from engine.low enough but noticable. engine sound is not as expected

                  CHange the pads immediately - dont go for OE pads they suck - insteal go for ANL or ASK. The drifting seems to be serious ask them politley to set it right if they dont oblige shoot a mail to hero they have a seperate form for that in their website .

                  About the harsh gear shift try Hnda 10W 30 for a change .

                  is that tappet noise ? all SC have one senior mech get hold of him and all your problems will go away .

                    1. GO for pad replacement but at the same time, check your disk whether it is bent/not. Even a slightest bend will reflect in the way the pads have worn out.

                    2. Is the drift when taking turns/cornering/cutting through traffic/when running in a straight line? Tyres also can be the culprit. Are you running Stock Zapper Y? You must have noticed that there is no central line and by now, the depth of the 'main' treads near the central part must have decreased. Check your tyres too.

                    3. 20w40??? Strictly not recommended bro. Drain fully and change to 10W30 ASAP. Honda/HH oil - both will do. 20W40 might decrease engine heating but surely takes away smoothness in our Hunks/Xtremes; not to mention - a drop in mileage too!

                    4. Can you please be a little more elaborative/specific about the 'strange' noise?

                      Rear brakes are drum.by d way is 12K too much for brake pads ? many other members have told me the same.will change it soon.

                      I dont know exactly whats tappet noise and wats timin chainnoise but its like something loose bolt inside the engine and making sound when vibrating.

                        I am happy that the con rod big end bearing ,and crank shaft are ok..otherwise it would have necessitated opening of the entire engine,by splitting the crankcase....6 K for the entire work seems acceptable, since ASC labor charges will be on the higher side....

                          my cbz is around 3years old and has done almost 17k on OD.
                          I am getting mileage of 40kms only....
                          I constantly ride less than 60kmph..
                          Is this normal?
                          If not, what I can do to improve the mileage....

                          • Just got the bike after they installed the new bore kit .

                            The bike feels AMAZING even with the crappy hero oil - the engine has become so quiet like the old Xtreme .The pull has increased when i open the throttle - feels very hard to stay under 50KM/HR .

                            The mech asked my permission before he changed anything which was nice - he changed the accelerator cable + clutch cable.Also replaced some kinda rubber bush in the front forks - he cleaned the oil stainer and the CF filter .

                            Told him to change the clutch plate but he refused saying it was in good condition - investigated the hard gear shifts and said it will take Rs 40 to fix it but the spares were not available told me to come after one week .

                            Even though the GM said i cant watch the mech change my bore - i quietly slipped into the service area and watched everything -for some reason they were jumpy about my camera and didnt allow me to take any snaps so only took snaps of couple of bike that claimed 3 lives in total outside the service area .

                            The total bill came to Rs 4700 not R6000 that they intially claimed .

                            @sibun the head mech told me later that though the kit was SAL the rings were from USHA only - dont know how that is possible .

                            My eyes are burning as i have fever - saw a splendor that has done 2,10,000+ kms with 2 overhauls costing 12K each . cant write anymore as i am tired and my eyes feel like its being cooked

                              Hi Sarbon the current hero honda oil is not crappy as it is made by Tide water(Veedol) same as honda oil. So this oil is as good as Honda 10W30.

                              Congrats on your engine rebuild and enjoy your ride.
