Finally took the plunge and replaced timing chain+ adjusted valves; now the vibrations are gone and bike feels as good as new & the engine noise (tick tick) gone :-)
Got this done by friendly mechanic RAM at Durganagar, Jogeswarie(E) Mumbai.

I believe that Xtreme meeds timing chain change at every 20000 KMs. May be hunk too.

You just bought the bike and now you want to sell it ?

Change engine oil at 150kms to Hero oil ( Tide water company make ) . It will reduce vibrations little bit. But you need to use bike for atleast 7-8k kms to free up the engine.

Ride the bike for atleast 5k kms and your mind will change.
I had the same situation as yours but after 10k kms, change was dramatic and i fell in love with my Hero Hunk.
          Have patience brother.

Don't get frustrated and waste your money by selling a brand new bike.
AFAIK, Pulsars are much less refined than Hunk/XTreme anyday.

New generation pulsars are much more refined (2011 and later models) and vibe free...

Your bike would have vibrations as it is new and in the break in period.

Sell it and buy pulsar 180. You will be happy. Hero bikes take long to free up.
But as you have said hero bikes don't feel refined now. So if you feel like that then you will never feel satisfied.

So sell it and buy pulsar 180.

@all- those complaining of noise then please get the timing chain, tensions a d rockers checked. Also ensure to clean oil strainer and centrifugal filter every 6k rpm.

as far as hero bikes are concerned, it will take time to settle in, but once it got settled then it will never giveup the refinement and the amazing performance.
for me it took almost 15000 KM to settle in, but after 4.25 years completed 45000 KM, still i feel like new. To have a rough idea, ur bike will improve atleast by 30% in all aspects based on ur care for the bike. just ensure to do service regularly and change the components / wearable as per recommended time. everything will be fine then.

This is one good reason why not to take the media review of hero bikes completely, because they always test the new bikes and hero bikes will improve by many folds once it runs more kms. so if the reviewer is giving 6/10, then definitely bike will score 8-9/10 after settling in.

Regardless of above if u dont have patience , u can go ahead and buy pulsar, but for info, pulsar bikes are refined nowadays but in long terms definitely NO.
so far in my experience i felt even the spare parts of Hero lasts long that too at reasonable cost.

And i dont believe in " hero bikes quality has gone down after honda has left" . its just simply people dont know about hero bikes and they come to conclusion. most of the negatives people say about hero bikes are due to the early conclusion of the hero bikes without knowing the late settling in time.

Lol...it is vice versa, brother!!! Get your facts straight.

Hero has become crap after Honda left the joint venture. Take for example the zma, zmr vs the zmr and zma post hero and honda splitup.

Not starting a brand war, but a fact is fact. And whatever success Hero has, I can vouch it is 90% due to highly reliable honda engines

                                Cheers,
                                Sanjay
