There was absolutely no problem with Gulf, but I thought to give Motul Mineral 10w30 a try. I'll get the carb tuned during second oil change i.e after riding 1500 Kms since engine overhauling. I believe the increased CO2 level will come back to normal after tuning.
I'm also planning to the get the Centrifugal filter and Engine Oil Strainer cleaned as well, since there may be some metal particles of the newly installed Bore-Kit inside the C.F.
Please share any more pointers, which should be checked during next servicing.
    Hi Guys,
    Need some help!!
I've rode 750 kms since the engine overhaul of my xtreme. She is returning a decent mileage of aroud 50 kmpl.
Problem is I'm experiencing low pickup. I had replaced the whole clutch kit including clutch centre and pressure plates @ 21 K. So when the bore kit was replaced @ 28 K, no clutch work was done since pickup was good.
But after the overhauling, pickup had decreased.
My first impression was that engine has not yet settled, But even after 750 kms, pickup has not returned
Can you guys throw some light on this issue.

During my last update, I had mentioned that my Engine's head cover was changed under warranty. Peace of mind, I thought. But no. It started leaking again. After exchanging a few pm with Shoeb, he told me that it might be a problem with the threading of the head bolt, and that it was not able to withhold the pressure. Contacted Hero's regional office and surprisingly, yes, the response was quick. Within 10 minutes the SVC head of Mody Motors called me up and asked me to visit him. Upon inspection, the threads seemed fine. The culprit was a small O-ring which is mounted on top of the cam shaft that was not inserted properly by the previous SVC's mechanic[Read: I always gave my bike for servicing at Mody Motors' additional SVC near my house]. The SVC head here took note of the problem, and now hopefully the SV quality at the place near my house improves.
Also, I wasn't charged anything for the O-ring, new rubber head gasket, 10ml oil top up.

Guys forgot to mention something here.

My bike completed 2 years on 14 th september. So how was it. Well the relationship has been excellent and performance of bike is excellent.

So to sum of few of the things to mention are:-

Till January this year that is 1.5 years from the date of purchase bike has run only 7k kms. It was mostly because I was riding my Joy as my previous work entails visiting many sites where there was no roads and all that. So extreme was occasionally used while work demanded riding on highways. All other times i used to ride the Joy as it feels tailor made for bad roads for its superb low end torque and robust build.

But when i joined SBI, i was posted at around 172 kms from home which made the Joy to rest and be used on weekends. So i started using extreme for commuting on monday to work place and back on saturdays or holidays. This started the use of extreme extensively and 100% on highways.

Now the bike is approaching 20 k mark fast and you can see that in these 6 months bike has covered 13k kms. My bike was registered under HMC( hero maintenance contract) which entails the bike to be serviced in 2 months or 2k kms. Service center were dumbfound to see that i covered 2k in 25 days usually.

Now i have stopped going to service center and do servicing on my own or when i do not have time near my mechanic.

            So to sum up:-

            Pros:-
            1. Excellent pick up and pulls like crazy after 6k rpm. Also the bike revs very fast. Although the specification specifies that it is square but it revs very freely. Bike begs to be revved and reward with better thrust while revving.

            2. Quite fast on expressway as i have touched 120 kph true speed while crouching on a less windy day. Rpm was at 9.3 k rpm. On this side of CBR 150 and R15 it is quite a performer.

            3. Fuel efficiency is a plus point as if ridden sedately returns 55-58 kpl but rip it hard and mileage will go south. Lowest i got was 35 kpl when most of the time rpm was north of 8k. Overdrive magazine in their 24 hours shoot out had got 28 kpl when the accelerator was pinned to max.
So expect anywhere above 50 kpl most of the time.

            4. Build quality is excellent which is typical of hero.

            5. Handling- CBZ was an excellent handler and this has taken it further. Many a times have scrapped the foot pegs on tarmac with the stock tyres.

            6. Stability- The 18" wheels provides excellent stability and the weight provides great protection against swaying in cross winds. Overdrive has mentioned it as arabian stallion and i absolutely agree with it.

            7. Ergonomics- Excellent as the seating position is slightly sporty and also is roomy which allows you to slide on the seat. The seat has enough space to adjust your body accordingly. The clip-on are excellent and give sufficient width for better holding and control of bike.

            8. Engine- The best bit as it pumps out 14.4 bhp while being smooth and fuel efficient. More than the power it is the way the power is laid which gives a smile on your face. The throttle response is sharp and also the engine is punchy. More over the engine is strong enough to rev beyond 9k rpm in top gear. Since power is made at high rpm so this bike likes to be revved.

Some other tit bits like digital console and gas shocks which make it a good bike.

            Now some cons:-

            1. No kick which although not necessary but is a good safety if electrical fails. New model has it.

            2. Vibes- Particularly in 4.5-5.5 k rpm which is very bad. With engine getting set vibes have reduced as to when new.

            3. Size- Weight is quite high which makes it difficult for smaller built person a bit tricky to handle. More over with weight bike also is quite tall. After shifting from other bikes this feels like sitting on balcony. However for me the size is perfect as i am 5' 10" in height and with shoes i come to 5' 11" tall and also i am 75 kg. I am quite wide as with years of gyming i have grown wide. So the big size with wide handle bar is boon. But little less weight would have been beneficial.

            4. Headlight- Although headlight is very bright for 35W and the reflector is excellent which help in proper focus of light. But the sad thing is that this bike has everything DC except headlight. It would have been easy if all would have been DC as plonking a 60/55 would have been possible. Since all are LED from backlight to console lights, and with 140W alternator DC would have been easy. Plan to convert soon with re-winding.

            5. Engine- A shorter stroke engine like the original CBZ would have helped to rev very quickly already increasing the acceleration. The square engine is good but who doesn't want more.

            6. Low end torque- The most irritating bit is this that there is no practical low end torque. After riding my Joy this bike has nil low end torque. You will not feel the low torque in normal riding, but ride on highways at high rpm and once you are addicted to the high Rpm performance suddenly low end torque feels low. Any gear above 3k rpm bike pulls and in 5Th gear bike pulls after 4k rpm.

So a shorter review was it and covers most point.

Engine oil used so far is:-
            1. Hero oil- good for some time and after 800 km oil looses its viscosity and becomes like water.

            2. Shell Advance ax 9(ultra) 10W 40- It is a fully synthetic oil and was excellent and i have ridden it for 4.5k but had to drain it as bike went for company servicing and those buggers had drained it and filled Hero oil. After that price increased to Rs. 920 and i never bothered.

            3. Veedol take-off advance 10W 30- the best oil for the price and bike likes it also. In spite of being mineral it ran for 2.2k and still was not feeling like needing for change. Change it and once again filled the same oil(i.e new bottle of same make). Highly recommended as it is an API SM and JASO MA2 oil.

Next want to try MOTUL 5100 10W 30 that is launched new. My friend will get it and i will try. Mostly because my running is high and changing oil every 25 days is not feasible.Otherwise Veedol is sufficient.

You can very well use Motul 7100 10W 40 and being fully synthetic, your bike will feel smooth and rev smoother. Use it and share your experiences. If i am not wrong then you run 14/42 sprockets on your extreme, how is it feeling any review on the same as it could be helpful.Go for Motul 10W 40 7100 and share your experiences.

Hi sibun, since u have tried many Oil, can u say whether the vibes in 4.5 to 5.5 K RPM have reduced in any particular oil ?

So for my problems i have mentioned, i went to ASC and asked them to do the same ( Since i don have any toolkit and adjustment mentioned are minute so i didnt go to any mechanic). I will tell u one more Joke to see how ASC guys are

Me : "Anna, please look into the issue, my engine gets stressed very early, so vibrates heavily such that i cant ride my bike"

(As usual he went for a small round in my bike, then after he came)

ASC guy : "Bike is normal only, no problem at all, See the new Xtreme is 10KG less than older Xtreme (WTF) so it will vibrate upto 80KMHR, to return good mileage company has reduced its weight, if u go by the side of a Lory which goes in high speed Xtreme will be blown to other side"

Me : (Almost Fainted) "Thanks for the info !!!!" . Felt like crying

Any ways, raised the issue in Hero Moto Corp site yesterday and got a call from ASC (another guy) today. He had promised me that he will resolve the issue, i think soon post the update

Engine overhauling of my engine is still pending and the oil in the cumbustion chamber is killing my spark plugs.
Got new one today NGK CR9E.
There is nothing written on it regarding the bikes that it is built for.
Not sure if it suits XTreme/Hunk (Mine is a Hunk 2008).

i am changed back to 14/43 sporket set up, that i changed my rear tyre with CEAT GRIPP its bigger than the MRF Zapper so the 14/42 set up is not performing well so i changed it back

Finally, I visited to my mechanic's garage once again yesterday, and discussed all the issues.
ODO reading was 29 K, and I had rode about 1000 kms since the cylinder kit replacement.
Below are the complete details of the job done.

                          1. First of all, he opened the cylinder head cover and adjusted the tappets (Without using any gauge). He also checked both the rockers for play, but both of them were in good condition. Ignition timing was readjusted as well.

                          2. He opened the right crank-case for clutch inspection. As mentioned in the previous post, I had changed the complete clutch kit @ 21K which had costed a whopping 2200/- .
Then he gave me a shock by telling that Friction kit, Clutch Plates and Pressure plates are gone and I was like . The cost of OEM Friction kit, Clutch Plates and Pressure Plates are Rs. 1334, 126 and 284 respectively which adds up to Rs. 1744. Moreover I had replaced all these parts including clutch centre @ 21 K only. I asked him that how come all the parts went kaput in just over 8000 Kms , and he answered that everything is in-front of you. He told that the fiber plates and clutch plates have been worn out, and there are scratch marks on the pressure plates as well. The only savior was clutch center which was looking fine. I was just not interested to buy all these parts from SVC again, and there was some financial constraints as well.
So, after consulting my mechanic regarding after-market spares I went to Karol Bagh and purchased following parts:

                          a. Shriram Alpine Clutch Friction Kit: 160.00
                          b. Honda Unicorn Clutch Plates (4 Pcs): 120.00
                          c. Honda Unicorn Pressure Plate: 140.00
                          d. Gulf Pride 4T Synth 10w30 (x2): 600.00
                          e. Right Cover Gasket (OEM): 60.00

I know that the performance of these after-market spares could not compared with the OEM ones, but if OEM Clutch kit is lasting only 8000 Kms then is there any other alternative??
In the meanwhile, the mech had cleaned the Strainer and Centrifugal Filter thoroughly. Every thing was installed and Anabond was applied on the surfaces of the clutch cover as well as mating surface to prevent oil leak.
Below are the images of old Fiber Plates, Pressure plate and the packet of New Fiber Kit.

                          3. If you guys remember I was facing oil leak issue in the rear disc caliper and had ordered the parts through SVC. So, now it was turn of rear disc caliper overhauling. The mech disconnected the caliper assembly and then cleaned it thoroughly with kerosene. After that Piston and Seal Set were replaced. The old piston was damaged on its edge and due to this the disc pads were wearing out unevenly. He re-installed each and every thing and pressure in the rear brake pedal was restored within a few minutes of pumping. Overall, I was most satisfied with the servicing of Disc Caliper, and now the original bite is back. Below is the list of purchased spare parts:
                          1. SEAL SET (OEM) 178.00
                          2. PISTON (OEM) 334.00
                          3. Rear Disc Pads (MK Brand) 80.00 (Note: OEM Rear Pads costs Rs. 1180

Below are the images of old piston and disc pads for reference.

                          4. Air-Filter was cleaned using compressed air which was just 1000 Kms old, and chain slack was adjusted as well.

                          5. Bike was washed and polished.

In just 2 Years and 29 K on ODO, My xtreme's cylinder kit has been replaced once and clutch plates twice. Along with this, Chain-Sprocket Kit has also been replaced once @ 22 K. I have spend more than Rs. 2000 for the maintenance of Rear Disc Brake only till date.
There was no question of claiming warranty of any sort, since I have not visited the A.S.C after 4th servicing for reasons which every Hero owner may have experienced. This bike is really burning a big hole in my pocket, and I'm fed up with it's maintenance cost .

                                Shibun..
As u told, i checked the racker arm with the help of ASC. They forced me to change that, i did as they told. Also they replaced cam shaft(free of cost-warrenty). But still the sound persist while release accelerator. local mechanic told it could be clutch bell problem. if we change it cost around 2k.. is it right?

Also i adjusted the tappet to 0.06 & 0.1 . But still RPM need is fluctuating. So i went to local mechanic.. he adjusted the tappet without any measurement(by experience). After adjusting that, i have faced many issues.. RPM range is above 2K( increased and handover to me) when i adjust that to 1.5K bike is stall in each and every signal. Also while increasing gear it is making lot of sound as well as rpm raises considerably for some moment then it is normal. Really fed up with that mechanic . Please give some solution for my problem.
