This was true for Honda Two Wheelers and is true for Honda Cars too. Remember how long Honda did not give Airbags standard on its best selling City model so as not to impact its margins?
Only a few 125cc scoots are available in the market(no alternative factor) because most people prefer motorcycles over scooters at 125cc and above, main reason is better control and stability at higher speeds. On the other hand, most 2 wheeler s sold in India fall in the 110cc segment(according to a survey for the ABS/CBS being made mandatory for 2 wheeler s) and in that segment people prefer scoots over motorcycles, that's the reason why there are a lot of 110cc scoots out there, same reason why other manufacturers are not upgrading them for now, manufacturers want profit and they are getting it at 110cc
yamaha and honda both have high performance scooters (125cc&150cc) in other asian markets, that too with liquid cooling and fuel injection yamaha NVX,honda PCX,honda froza, honda lead, may be if the demand increases and people are willing to spend 90k or above for a scoot they might bring it to India

Since this is my first experience riding an auto gear scooter I wanted to check if the mild woosh/whiny noise coming from transmission when closing the throttle at higher speeds like 30 km/hr and above is normal for honda scooters.
A lot people report different types of sounds, and it's almost impossible to understand what some of them mean without listening to it. I've ridden a Dio for around 70k km and i do not understand the sound you are talking about! It could very well be normal.. why don't you ride another activa het , maybe a test ride at your local honda service center.. that will give you a clear idea. If you don't notice it on another activa, get an opinion from a mechanic and let us know what they say.
Since it's been 3 yrs, I'd advice you get a full drive train inspection done (i.e. open the left side case, clean it out and inspect the variator rollers, drive belt, clutch shoes/bell etc..). This would take approx 30 minutes and any honda service center should be able to help you out.

And first ensure you replace the engine oil and gear box oil (use 90 gear oil, like castrol or mak spirol from bharat petroleum). you never know if/when the previous owner replaced the oil.. especially the gear oil.

Here is a link to how you would inspect the drive train:

It's normal, nothing to worry about.

Thanks for the tip. Got the scooter serviced and changed engine oil and gear oil. For some reason (to get money I assume) they greased the clutch also. Is it required to periodically grease clutch? I didnt find in the maintenance schedule in owners manual.

Thanks buddy, gives me peace of mind. Last 2 days I have been paying attention to other scooters on road and noticed this distinct whine from almost all Honda scooters when decelerating from a reasonable speed. But I think Yamaha and Suzuki scooters dont make this noise.

the clutch actually consists of 3 clutch shoes, and they hinge/lock together on a small pivot point. maybe they applied a dab of grease on this pivot point and the clutch sheave (that slides). it a good practice to get the drive train inspected every service (which most of the service centers don't do).. refer to the video in my previous post.
remember to never get oil or grease on the clutch shoe itself.. it is similar to a brake shoe and if grease or oil get on the friction material it will keep slipping and you will lose pickup/acceleration.. and am sure every mechanic knows at-least this much and wouldn't get oil/grease on the clutch itself!

              Finally got my Activa 4g

Its bliss to ride this gearless scooter in city.Rode around 15kms in city.
Have some questions for current owners
1.Does the underseat luggage storage gets heat up after riding few kms??Touched the plastic panels of the underseat storage,it was little hot
2.Since the rainy season is about to start. My mechanic told me to get a anti-rust coating and have also heard about rusting on the floor(where we rest our legs).Does anyone has done this before??
              3. I am keeping speed under 60 km/hrfor the break-in period,have touched 50 km/hr till now.
Driving a Car is like watching a movie
But Riding a Bike is like Actually Starring in It!!!!

                Congratulations !
Yes, the under-seat storage spaces gets pretty warm.. it is normal.
as for the rust proofing coating, i've heard and seen folks get it done (Dinitrol was the brand iirc). make sure they cover the engine/hose pipes/wiring before spraying the bike.
here is a video of one such treatment

You can continue with maintaining these speeds during run-in. just let the scoot idle for a minute before taking off.

Since rainy season is about to start, did anti-rust treatment for my activa. My mechanic used this Black Japan ,he told me its better than dinitrol. He had applied it on his customer's activa and it prevented from rusting for 2-4 years.
Attaching the pics of Black Japan and the panels and the body on which applied black japan

                  This is Black Japan

Panels and body where Black Japan was applied from inside

                  This is how it looks.

Hi all, I recently purchased Honda Activa 4G about 2 months back. I wanted to buy a motorcycle but due to my lack of riding experience and also I hoped my father could ride it, I decided on a scooter. Well its a awesome scooter. I have not ridden any other scooter so I don't know about others. The suspension could use improvement but other than that everything is nice. But last one month I have noticed buzzy floor board vibrations after 50kmph. The vibrations have increased last few days due to hot weather conditions I think. Also there is a tick tick noise coming from the engine if it gets hot after riding for a while. I told this at the service centre but they said its normal! If anyone has any idea why this is happening please share. I have done about 870 Kms till now. Fuel economy is 45-50kmpl. To be honest I am regretting slightly buying a scooter since I wanted to buy a motorcycle for a long time. But its a terrific scooter, only this feelings of regret kicks in when a young kid on a Fz or a Hornet over takes me on high speeds and without helmet! Its a nice looking scooter, nice matt grey color, accelerates nicely.
XBhp is an awesome community by the way. I have been reading other ownership threads too. People here are really helpful and not abusive! Anyway here are some pics.

For the vibrations, get the nuts/bolts tightened (panels/floorboard/side stand).
The tik-tik-tik sound is normal and your svc mechanic is right. It's the sound of metal (exhaust/catcon) contracting. Occurs on almost every scooter motorcycle especially when they are new. Nothing to worry.
The fuel economy you are getting is perfect. Enjoy riding it and do not worry much or try to fiddle with something unnecessarily.

Thanks for the reply. I will get the nuts/bolts tightened. But the exhaust noise you mentioned happens when the engine is off right? I know that sound but I was actually worried about engine noise which can only be heard when the engine is very hot and running. If I switch off the engine for 5 minutes then start, the noise is gone. The noise is a much lower note tick sound than exhaust one. More like tock than tick!
Fuel economy I got between the last 2 fuel stops is 52 kmpl. I am slightly surprised even though after buying it I was expecting 60 kmpl as company mentioned! Then came the shock of course. But after the last check I am quite happy with this.
                        Thanks

sorry buddy, i can't help you further without actually listening to the sound. a lot of folks here keep complaining about different raga's, tunes, tick-tocks and it's almost impossible to say if it's a normal or abnormal sound. Please ride another activa and see if you notice similar sounds.

the fuel economy you are getting is fabulous.. anything above 45 is good.. with some getting around 42 in stop go traffic or when used for frequent short rides. Forget what the company says. you should be worried if it drops below 42(Assuming your riding pattern/style is the same and you were getting higher FE)
And always check your fuel economy using the tankful to tankful method (and not by the fuel gauge/reserve calculations).

I understand, actually I am not much worried about it. As long as the scooter is running I'm ecstatic. I am growing attached to the scooter.
I was imagining what if sounds of ragas and melodies start coming from bike engines for real! Hehe

When I'm going around 50kmph and take my hands off the handlebar of my Activa, it tends to shake right and left very fastly. Is it related to front tyre or handlebar not tight enough?

I have a 2012 Activa. Never had any such noise. Although I have heard a whistle kind of noise from dio when riding around 80kmph. Inspect your vehicle bro. There should not be any noise till 50 kmph other than engine grunt if you full throttle.
