Re: Yamaha SZ-X / SZ-R
How is it now that you have added Silicon, does the air still leak out? It's scary since I am traveling to Ladakh and if this happens I don't have any way to fix itOriginally posted by Aigars View PostThere are no short-cuts to any place worth going. Re: Yamaha SZ-X / SZ-R
If you will have air pump then you can fix very easy on the road. I think you must check air pressure often. Last time it "fell off" it was too soft i guess. You should find very good puncher who will do it.Originally posted by prajnyan View PostHow is it now that you have added Silicon, does the air still leak out? To fix I used GP689 general purpose silicone sealant - one i had at home. May be some other kind of silicone could be better, basically you need any flexible and water resistant substance between tube and metal rim because stock rims are not designed for tubeless tyres.
1st time it happened 2-3 month after conversation. 2nd time after may 7-8 months. But my rear tyre is ok, never had issues.
I tested tyres on track for hiking to Nandi hills, in the sand and gravel. I am very happy. I never tested in a mud because i couldn't find it
So, I don't know how tyres are on very slippery, but i am sure that they are much better then average ones.
They told four wheels were better then two.
So, I bought another motorcycle!

Re: Yamaha SZ-X / SZ-R
Finally got new tubeless tyres fixed and the air is holding good. Did high speeds too, will test a ride from Bangalore to Ooty.
Also did some major upgrades: hazard light blinkers, led lights, mobile charger etc. Still need to get clutch plates and sprockets kit changed before the Leh ride.

Hmm. If you don't mind can you answer these questions so that I can analyse issue for you.Originally posted by ramprasadkamineni View PostGot them adjusted, but still I hear some noise
Should get it checked again
1. What generation and how many km has your bike done?
2. What grade of engine oil have you been using?
3. What RPM are you hearing the sound?
4. Does the sound disappear after the engine warms up?There are no short-cuts to any place worth going. So ride safe when you are treading uncharted roads.

Re: Yamaha SZ-X / SZ-R
As I mentioned in the earlier posts it was a used bike which was bought for friend. It was lying idle for almost 9months as he left Bangalore. Now that I've sold my bike I am using this.Originally posted by prajnyan View PostHmm. If you don't mind can you answer these questions so that I can analyse issue for you.

It was a 2011 model with close to 30k on the odo
Noise is present right from the starting
Engine oils used was shell ax7
Sound is present throughout the rev range even when engine is warm
Gave for a service at trusted mechanic and works done are below
Changed the clutch assembly
Battery
air filter
Spark plug
Front Disc master cylinder
Carburettor cleaned
Cables lubricated
Engine oil and filter
Tappets adjusted
Fixed a joint inside the headlight assembly which was broken
Air filter box was broken and it was not replaced as there was no stock anywhere
And here are the pics

Re: Yamaha SZ-X / SZ-R
Since you have already done major work on the bike. I suggest you give the bike at a Yamaha authorized service center for engine noise and tappet adjustment. They will know the default settings better than local mechanic.Originally posted by ramprasadkamineni View PostAs I mentioned in the earlier posts it was a used bike which was bought for friend. Even I have a 2011 SZR and I haven't got anything major done except regular service and maybe a new battery last year, so far it has done 30k km stock.
But I am planning a Ladakh ride hence got new tubeless tyres and fog lights done. Will give for complete service and for safer side new clutch plates and cables, new chain and sprockets (I still have stock chain and it might even run another few thousands) changed.
Even I have slight tappet sound sometimes on cold start but it disappear after engine warms, and ideally they adjust it, so I am not really worried. But if it's your timer chain noise you will need to get the engine removed to assess it.
You could find air filter box at the Yamaha SVC, so you can get that fixed too. And go with yamalube(20w40) or motul 5100 (15w50) oil and see if the engine noise will go down. A fully synt oil like AX7 (10w40) isn't suggested for our bikes.Last edited by prajnyan; 05-14-2017, 10:32 PM.There are no short-cuts to any place worth going. Iam sure that it's definitely not the timing chain or the tensioner but let's seeOriginally posted by prajnyan View PostSince you have already done major work on the bike. And BTW ax7 isn't a synthetic oil, it's a semi synthetic one
Have been using it from 2013 on my previous bike.
Haven't checked the recommended grade for this bike.
I will shift from ax7 to ax5 on the next oil change.
Called few SVC for the airfilter box but it's not available, also tried at few local spare part shops but of no use.Last edited by ramprasadkamineni; 05-14-2017, 10:59 PM.Yamaha fzs (2009-2012)||Honda unicorn(2012-2013)|| Hero karizma R (2013 - 2016)||Honda CBR 250R(2016)||Honda Hornet(2016-Present)

Re: Yamaha SZ-X / SZ-R
I was expecting this to happen considering the age of the bike and kms run

Right side fork oil seal busted
Can anyone help me with the capacity of the fork oil to be filled ??

Re: Yamaha SZ-X / SZ-R
Sorry, must search in manual. For FZ it's some 459 ml, but in ours it's less. I am going to Yamaha SVC this Friday, I could ask then and tell you, got to wait till then. By the way I got my rims stickered for reflection and I really [emoji7] them.Originally posted by ramprasadkamineni View PostI was expecting this to happen considering the age of the bike and kms run

Re: Yamaha SZ-X / SZ-R
Went to the mechanic today for the replacement of fork oil seals
On close observation there is a slight damage to the forks and mechanic insisted on changing the fork tubes for which I gave him a go ahead
Replaced fork tubes, fork oil seals and filled the forks with 180ml(mechanic recommended quantity) of fork oil but couldn't source the dust caps.

Re: Yamaha SZ-X / SZ-R
Look at the second hand market/scrap market you may find one, also body parts of sz is tough to get hold , it took me 6 months to get hold of the windshield. Not even a single SVC in Kerala and Coimbatore had that part.Originally posted by ramprasadkamineni View PostIam sure that it's definitely not the timing chain or the tensioner but let's see
