  • Re: Yamaha SZ-X / SZ-R

    Hello everybody...
I am ex SZ-R owner. I used it for 30000 kms and then decided to move on from bikes for time being. I was totally satisfied with the bike except its mileage and cruising ability as it was very short geared but it was excellent for city use.
I want to know few things from SZ-RR V2 owners as one of my friend is planning to but it.
    1. Mileage
    2. Rpm reading at 80kmph
    3. New tubeless tires performance as they were not upto the mark in previos version

    Thanks

I've noticed some difference in sound,
Opened the seat and checked the air filter area and to my shock the airfilter box is broken on one side
Is that air filter box easily available in showrooms??
And if so, how much will the cost be ??
Checked few automobile shops for the part, but of no use
You should get it from the ASC. Iam not sure on the cost. It might be around 500~800.

I have been trying to get some accessories for the SZ I just bought - Tank bag, crash guard, beeper for indicator etc. The showroom has been giving me the same reply (that it will be in stock in a week) for the past two months. This is rather puzzling as in the auto industry, generally product margins are thin, and most dealers make their profits on acessories, and this seems rather the opposite.

I know the stuff is available in GP road etc in chennai, but dad can't ride too far, so we are trying to find someplace on OMR, chennai to buy/fit

I made some plastic surgery for my SZ. I bought it on february 2011.
So far done 53+K. Totally i made 85+K in India. Next year will be my 1st lakh.
The worst thing is speedometer cable. It is 4th (!!!!) on my bike.
I am very satisfied with this bike. It is easy going to any roads. I was in Kodaikanal, Ooty-Coonoor, Coorg, Kolli hills and many other places with 3 bags on bike + pillion.
              Customising is not finished yet.
I am planning to make it totally naked. Just must figure out what to do with battery and wiring.

They told four wheels were better then two.
              So, I bought another motorcycle!

Dad's SZRR (which I took delivery of last month) went for its first service, and dad has been using it fo a week or so.

He initially kept stalling it at low speeds, and found some play in the clutch, both of which were fixed at the first free service

Accessories - crash guard from showroom (900) Flasher from local spare parts shop (50+30 install), seat cover + tank bag (from local shop) 500

Nothing exceptional, though he keeps having trouble getting it into neutral. My friend who took delivery of the bike faced the same issue, but another friend who tried it out did not face it.
Friend#1 rides a classic bullet, so he figured he might be applying too much effort.

Dad also says he's still figuring out where the gears are, but still gets frustrated every now and then. Anyone else faced this issue?

also, is the fuel meter very non linear? it was showing almost empty, we filled around 500 rs worth of petrol (~7L) and the meter went to the other extreme.

Well, looks like gearbox is not good on all SZ series. I have simple SZ (without X, S or RR). Even after 50+K gear shifting is not smooth. Sometimes hard to put into 1st gear. I thought those issues will gone after breaking-in, but no, they are still actual.
And fuel level indicator is not accurate also.

Resale value is low. You can expect a figure or around 50-55k max

I am planning to ride on my Yamaha SZR to Leh/Ladakh and definitely my stock TVS tube tyres wont be a good choice. I am thinking of going for on/off road dual purpose tubeless tyres. I have narrowed down to the below, I need input on which is the better choice for rear and for front. If you have any other tyre brand in mind please suggest.

Rear: Michelin Sirac Street 100/90 R17 TL (or) Ceat Gripp XL 100/90 TL (or) Ceat Vertigo 100/90 R17 TL
Front: Michelin Sirac Street 2.75-17 TT (or) Michelin City Pro 2.75-17 TL (or) Ceat Gripp F 2.75 TL

(Will TL tyres suit TT rims? The rims aren't damaged and thus I hope the tubeless tyres should fit with some adjustment for the air valves. If they don't then I will have no choice but to go with a tube tyre. In which case I prefer both Sirac Street TT for front and rear.)
There are no short-cuts to any place worth going. So ride safe when you are treading uncharted roads.

I have Michelin sirac street.Very sweet tyres.
I converted my stock SZ rims into tubeless in the shop. But it is not perfect. One air went out and tyre "peeled off" the rim. To put it back i used silicone on the rim
