Hi again everyone,

Bumping this thread after a long time. My search for a used SZ continues as the last one about whom I asked on this very thread didn\'t accept my offer.
Anyways, I have bumped into another seller with a 2011 December SZ-R in very good condition. However, the bike has been ridden for close to 42,000 KM.

Simple question, is this a huge negative? Can I expect another 60,000-70,000 KM of trouble free running from the engine. Owner has maintained the bike very well and even my regular mechanic approved the bike. However, views of members here is what I would rather rely on before taking a call.

P.S. - My mechanic, OTOH, is pushing for me to get a new SZ-S (68 OTR) rather than spend 35-40K on bikes such as above. He says there is simply no difference between a new SZ-S and the SZ-R\'s I am looking to buy; except for the price of course.

Your mechanic is right to advice you to go for a new one. Because there is no difference in SZ-S and old SZ-R. I would suggest you to go for new one.

Completed 4 years of ownership of my SZ-R, when I bought this bike it was from first batch delivered at YFS Mumbai. Loved it when I took delivery. There are lot of memories surrounding my bike. I am happy to own this bike, even though it is not popular.

Still in the love with it.

Hi all,

I had previously posted on this thread seeking opinions of owners here about purchasing a used SZ. Came across two deals and after consultations on this thread, realized that both were over-priced for what they offered. In the mean time, i came across an excellently maintained Suzuki GS150R and after sweating over it for a while (coz of same old Suzuki service and spares issue), made the purchase. I realize both bikes are completely different from each other but I really didn't expect the Suzuki to be so good when I rode it. Icing on the cake was its condition. ODO reading 7622 KM, 2011 Aug model, no major fault or repairs carried out since purchase, regularly serviced but mostly idle due to owner's ill-health.

I'd like to thank members on this thread who answered my numerous queries. Starting with Anuj_Gupta, yes!rajib, Naveen1985 and lalitp.

I'm grateful for your time and opinion guys .

Had a lot of accidents on this bike. Straightened out forks & what not. Bike developed this "khat" sound. But only when front wheel goes in some of the bigger potholes.
Small potholes , no problem.
Now after another fall the noise comes much more easily on smaller potholes too.
Is it the cone set ? Or something else ?
P.S : I think sound comes on bottoming out of forks.
Also checked to see if number plate touching mudguard, but it is not !

What is the bulb type of SZR headlight? My friend is planning to change the headlight to something better.
But I don't know the bulb type/size

Naveen, all those information that you are shared in this thread are very much useful for fellow team members and also to those who want to research about SZ. Some member's (like me ) will silently follow up this thread on regular basis and shoot some questions if we need to know something.

4 years now & the bike is showing an extremely incorrect fuel tank reading.

Its(dont know the "part's" name sorry) health was declining steadily. A year back it used to show half when the tank was about 3/4th full.
And now its showing empty when the tank is actually just half empty.

Also when setting tappet clearance scratched the feeler's surface. It was my friend's & I wanted to replace it for him.
Any shop in Pune where you get Stanley feeler gauges ?
Someone told me www.toolsnfasteners.com is a good authentic site but I wanted to buy from a shop.

Not specific to your bike but for any bike. For the distance you are supposed to cover, ensure you have at least 10-15% more fuel. Have sufficient water(preferably glucose). Take rest on a regular basis. Lube the chain well. Have the tyre pressure at least 1 psi less than normal. In this heat, tyre pressure goes up drastically. Also, if possible have your mechanic's number saved in your mobile.
Have a safe journey.
A bike on the road is worth two in the shed.

Hello members .I own a Yamaha szr .I change the engine oil last month with mogul 300v. Now since 2 days,at lower range engine noise is OK but the engine noise is changed and at around 6 k rpm..the noise is like engine running at 9 k rpm.the tachometer is showing normal reading in ideal.also if I give to much throttle (7000 rpm) there is slight black smoke in exhaust .please help is someone knows.

Switch back to recommended grade of oil, You can change brand but don't play around with grade.

A fully synthetic oil isn't recommended for your engine. My best recommendation is use the Yamalube 15w50. It gives you the best experience for the engine.

Are you observing scruff marks on the fork? I think its the inner tube. Is the oil leaking? The fork doesn't seem to have been correctly straightened. You need to get it checked again and replace the fork oil, seal with a new set only.

Is this a new bike? If so wait for the brake pads to actually wear a little, and if possible in next service get the brake oil replaced with fresh DOT oil from a sealed pack because DOT oil kept in air will oxidize and not perform well. This is the reason you get spongy feel. If not, when was the last time you actually overhauled the front brakes at an SVC and properly bleeded the oil? Go with fresh new DOT 3 oil, and if the brake pads are more than 60% worn, a new brake pads costs about rs.180 for the set and see the difference, my feel is that the BYBER brakes are actually the best. If in case your brake liner is really old (more than 3 years in sun and rain) the rubber would age and this gives poor braking, replace that too if the service engineer suggests. This should help you.

For the weight of the bike and stopping distance required, its not the brake liner you must invest in, go for better rubber. A soft compound tyre like Michelin Sporty or MRF tyres should give you better braking and stopping than TVS tyres. Also, fitting a steel braided line is not advised because this only gives longevity to the brake lines, but doesnt actually boost performance by any margin. Changing front wheel means change to fork too, not suggested.
