Done with the 12th (I think) service, did it at Monarch Yamaha Tilak Road, Pune. It was a regular service after 4-5 months, there has been huge delay between my last service and this one due to some personal commitments.

Overhauled both the brakes as disc brake was making noise due to dust/mud. Rear brake was adjusted. I wanted to have Yamalube SS oil in my bike, but they did not had that one, so using Mineral oil, will change it with Motul SS after 1.5K kms. Bike is smooth as ever. No niggles, so far (touchwood). Did not check the mileage after the service, will check it and report it back after few days.

I dont understand why people are not keen to reply to this thread, even the non-owners. This is one of the prime reason why this thread is dead, because no-one bothers to reply to this thread, even moderators!

        hi lalit..
My bike's 5th service is due as my odo readeing is 12200 approx. Is it mandatory to change air filter, spark plug, front fork oil at 12000kms only...??
I am concerned about front fork oil specially.
Please give me inputs according to your experience.

I'm sorry if this seems a silly question but what noise does the disc make due to mud/dust because my disc has been making a squeaking sound since I lubricated steering bearing & swingarm bearing & overhauled disc. The sqeaking sound is not stopping & has been there since more than 2 months now.

And by the way even I service my bike at monarch. Or used to whatever.
The last time I had told them to clean & lubricate chain & replace air filter or rather they recommended it. :banghead:
After about 200kms I had opened the L.H.S panel to do some other work & suddenly remembered that I had a new air filter fitted. So I thought of checking it out.
And I was shocked when I could clearly see that they hadn't changed it.
So dunno what to advise you because before this incident my bike hasn't given any problems till date after giving it to monarch(except tight chain & tight clutch setting).

          No it isn't mandatory.
And my friend please check the manual.
Ironically(in your case) n idiotically in everybody's case there is no maintenance schedule given for fork oil change.
About the air filter I cannot say because few people have mentioned that this bike has a bit more than required air intake anyway so I guess we could postpone the replacement of this part unless it's been contaminated too much by oil from crankcase breather. Else I guess we can clean thoroughly & use for more number of

Sorry submit button is too close to keyboard buttons on phone.(it got clicked midway)

            But lalitp one more thing.
Chain cleaning & lubrication which I thought will have been done was not done too.
I checked my chain just a few days back & I found it caked with so much muck that it could be said without any doubt that the chain hadn't been lubricated since ages(not before 2 months atleast).

              Hi Naveen,

Good to see you here buddy.

I have done 18.5K kms (I know it is less :P) in 3 years. So far I have changed Spark Plug, after replacement found that old one could have lasted more than I anticipated. I changed the fork oil and LHS side fork seal as I saw some oil traces there. After replacement of fork oil I saw huge positive difference, I think in my case the fork oil originally was less. It is said that air filter needs a replacement every year, but I beg to differ. If it is chocked/oily then you need to change it otherwise it shouldnt be a problem. Its all about how much of these parts deteriorated rather than schedule (Thats what is my thinking)

My suggestion is to ask SVC to check the air filter/spark plug and then take a call. In my 3 years of ownership of the bike, I just changed airfilter once, spark plug once. My bike also covered less distance in those 3 years.

              HTH.

              Cheers!

I had been struggling with front brake from the begining. I made YFS Pune people life miserable for it. In that frustration I gave my bike to Monarch and I dont know what they did with it, but since then the front discs are the way I want them to be. This time also the disc are perfectly fine without any noise after service. I asked them to check air filter and also told them to call me before adding any part in my bike.

You can always email Yamaha India and report any incidents you face during service. Trust me it works, it works like a charm, they will come running to you to fix the problem. One email against a SVC make them work so much on documentation part, so they make sure the emailing customer is satisfied no matter what. Try it out.

              Cheers!

                Thanks for the quick reply.
The email thing surprised me. But I think too much time has passed & I don't have any evidence to back up my claims now.(as I have cleaned the chain)

And you mentioned that you changed fork oil.
May I ask after how many kms/months did you change & where did you get this done?

Thanks for Your inputs friends. After discussing my confusions with head mechanic and 2-3 friends I decided to proceed as per yamaha service schedule, as a result 5th service costed me 1380rs/- which includes following items:

                  1. engine oil: 340
                  2. spark plug: 120
                  3. air filter: 250
                  4. chain cleaning and lubing: 70
                  5. rear wheel bushes: 60
                  6. oil filter: 40
                  7. swing arm cleaning, greasing and lubing with labour: 450 (these 450 figure is irritating me a lot)
                  8. tax: 50

Head mechanic of yamaha service center explained everything to me with solid examples from other bikes which were coming for service but still i was expecting a figure of around 900-1000rs/- max and that is why I am feeling a bit cheated.

This is way too much IMO. You could have done it with a trusted mechanic. I did it through a local mechanic shop and it didnt cost me that much.

That i know buddy but I dont care this much as I get reimbursement for every single penny spent on my bike. More importantly my company always insist me to get my bike serviced from authorized service centers only.

Went for a ride today to Mahabaleshwar a hill station near Pune, round trip about 250 kms . Enjoyed the rip-fest. Was riding at 90kmph+ on highway for most of the part on return journey, mind you top speed of my bike is a 105-107 kmph. Otherwise I was riding between 70-80 kmph. Loved it all over again. Cross winds make it very difficult being a naked bike, this is bound to happen. Didnt leave any occasion to red-line the bike.

Ghat section was depressing for the tyres. They are no more than pathetic when you are coming down from ghat section. Straight line was good after they heat up. The work that SVC did on brakes boosted the confidence. All in all enjoyed the ride. Didnt check the mileage, should be around 40 kmpl.

                            • Is it true that this bike has a high air intake already & so it isn't necessary to replace/change air filter as per the maintenance chart & just clean periodically (as claimed by users on this thread)
◆Experience: After fitting new air filter heat is felt when ridden on speeds upto 60 (inside city so staggered) for just 5 kms after initial 3-5 kms ridden on low rpms & <= 40kmph.
So is engine running hotter due to increased air flow ? What are the possible steps which could be taken ?
