One thing I have also faced is that when I throttle up just near 5K RPM in 3rd, I hear this 'CHIRR" sound as u guys mentioned. However in 4th and 5th its a different RPM where I can hear this, is this something related to what discussion is going on on its just something which I am because I am pushing the throttle far... ???

One more question I generally shift around 5 K RPM in 3rd, 4th and 5th gear. Though I tend to immediately shift from 1st to 2nd. Is this way how its done or I am doing something wrong?

13K kms done... No problems till now.. Mileage 40-41 in city though in highways I have not tested much maybe something around 43-44...
Like I said I faced the issue of chirrr sound at 70-80 kmph and it was crash guard who was culprit. Check for any loose parts.

I always start my bike in 2nd gear, no matter if I am with pillion or alone. 1st gear has too much of torque and RPM builds very fast. Never faced issue pulling bike from second gear from stand still. I normally shift gears at 3K RPM. And 30 kmph in 5th gear

I often redline my bike (of course under controlled conditions and only when bike ran about 5 kms), its fun to hear that engine sound. :P

Hey guys, I am also facing kir-kir sound since last 3 months. Precisly after first servicing. Service center mechanic first told me its normal. After 5k it will vanish. In second servicing I again raised this issue. He tested and told main fuel tank fairing packing is loose. He fixed that. But kir-kir sound was still coming when in throttling. When i release throttle kir- kir sound vanished.
I shown this to local Mechanic and he said that engine motor tuning is disturb. Fix this from service center. Sound start from RPM 4600, 58km/h in 5th gear. In 4 th gear it start 4000 rpm. This weekend will remove tank side fairing and front crash guard. Will update the result.

Yeah.. as i said. For them engine is normal. And its a truth if we see engines performnce. As its not affected by that chirr kirr aound.
Still hope your problem gets resolved. Best of luck

Mileage can be increased by an Optimizing Air Fuel Mixture Ratio and you can get it done at any Yamaha service centre

thanks :-), will check for next service

Brother, Our SZ-R Engine delievers maximum power at 4500 rpm which is around 12 NM of torque.
Engine's maximum power output is shifted at the mid range rpm of 4500.
So shift your gears after 2500-3000 rpm for first three gears as gear ratio is quite high for first three gears and shift after 4000 rpm for 4th and 5th gears and avoid unnecessary load on your engine. This will also keep your engine smooth and healthy

Yeah. Just check your service book and ask them to get your carburretor cleaned if your service book says so. Jobs are mentioned on the service book according to the number of upcoming service. This will lead to a more better adjustment of Air Fuel Ratio

You mean peak torque at 4500 RPM? I dont lug the engine, i just make sure that the engine has no load whatsoever. :-) It does 40 kmph at around 3200 to 3300 RPM. It is smooth as butter. ;-)

Mileage has dropped now, getting between 40 to 45 kmpl.

Yaah max torque at 4500 rpm.. all is well then.. but just avoid sudden acceleration
And you wont believe but i have extracted a Mileage of 61 kmpl from my SZ-R on a state highway yesterday

I am ram from chennai and own a black sz-r. I love my ride so much as it never troubled me since 2011 when I bought this. Am getting a moderate mileage of 45kmph as like many of you posted in this thread earlier. Click image for larger version

                      • [Yamaha SZ-R ]Frequent switching off and Low mileage problem

                        Hi

I own a SZ-R and it is 2.5 years old .I am working now in bangalore.I have the frequent Switching off problem, every 0.5 or 1 km when i am going a little slow in traffic ..it always gets switched off and another thing it gives me terribly low mileage (around 30 km) .

I am planning to give full service to rectify these problems.Which yamaha service center is best in bangalore and is it advisable to go to local service center and does anybody face this frequent switching off problem??

                        Please help.

                        Thanks.

It seems your carburettor tune is out of sync and slow speed (idle) is way less. Get your carburettor checked.

                            Cheers!

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
                            The girl said, 'NO!'

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

First of all, I know that this thread is almost dead but senior & experienced members are keeping it alive & I want to thank you all for that.
And it would be most appreciated if my queries are answered.

                              1. Does yamaha szr have an o-ring chain or a non o-ring chain ?

                              2. Does it have Teflon lined throttle & clutch cables or not?

                              3. Is it true that this bike has a high air intake already & so it isn't necessary to replace/change air filter as per the maintenance chart given in the manual(as claimed by users on different threads)?
