Top speed of 103 is dissatisfying really? Our roads are not that safe to do triple digit speed on 2 wheels all day long. I topped 110 kmph on an open stretch, did a longish ride in which i was riding between 80-90 kmph constantly for about 100 kms at a stretch and I own a first generation SZ-R. And 100cc doing 100kmph + is a little exaggeration. Shine barely touched 100 kmph AFAIK. Have you checked how much is Hunk and CBZ's topwhack and even their engines running at peak at that speed.

My doubt is more of a general than SZ RR V2 specific. Comparing with other 150cc+ bike this low power/torque of SZ RR V2 is a big drawback for a rider who rides around 60kmph. What do you think, since you own a SZ R?
Yes it can do 60 kmph all day long with a pillion. Its low end torque make it a super traffic tool. My bike will complete 5 years in Feb 2016, currently I dont ride my bike my brother in law rides it and he loves every bit of it in Mumbai traffic.

Only drawback of my 1st Gen SZ-R is mileage, its not that great, it is between 40-45 kmpl under city conditions.

      Thanks Lalit

SZ R you have reaches peak torque @4500 rpm, the same torque is achieved @6000rpm in SZ RR V2. Sadly, this doesn't seem like an upgrade to me?

Yes you are right, it is not an upgrade I believe, its a just a facelift with new engine with new technology. I think since this is a new engine Yamaha kept same torque for FZ Version 2.0 and SZ-RR Version 2.0, power has different figure. So I reckon they just reduced their work load to detune it for torque, then just detuned the power of the engine for SZ-RR version 2.0

So will getting spare parts for non-fi version be more tough now ?
And a bit ot. Anybody know of average mileage figures of v2.00 ?

            Hi,

The leg/knee guard on my SZR has started to rust and has lost some paint. Thanks to the salt and moisture in Mumbai air. Although all other parts are fine. I am thinking about re-painting the leg-guard at home. Any suggestions on this? (Such as what paint to buy or how to apply or whether it can be done at home in the first place) Highly appreciate the same.

            Thanks fellas.

            • Problem with front Disc brake on my Yamaha SZ-R

I own a Yamaha SZ-R (2011 model) purchased before 2 months from olx. I am satisfied with this bike very well. But I have one problem with the front wheel. It's not rotating freely. I have checked the bearing, and it was fine. Later found that there is friction with the disc pad and caliper. Local mechanic advised me to change the disc pad.
Waiting for the reply from experts.

I am no expert here but will be happy to give a few pointers.
Since you have bought a 2011 model it must've covered many kms.
So if it has maybe you do need to change brake pads.
You will have to crane your neck & try to see the small space between disc & outer surface of brake pad to figure out if pads are at the end of their life.
Also, wheels with a disc brake setup do tend to stop with a very slight jerk when you rotate them with your hands.

professional touch up is the best solution, gte hold of a guy who can do this for 100/- with matching paint. Else if you are a DIY guy, you will need 4 hours to clean sand apply primer and paint the surface. Not all on the same day. Do remember it is not prudent to buy 500 worth of paint and equipment if you can buy a new gaurd with the same money.

                    Hi Friends,

I'm looking to buy SZrrv2 soon. But there aren't many online user reviews for it. If any of you have heard reviews from your friends, could provide more inputs like how much improved mileage does the current version provides, or like any major issues with the bike after a few months usage, could help me in finalising the bike. My other option is unicorn160.

                    Thanks.

                      Hi friend,
Unfortunately I have version 1.0 so can't comment much about the latest version.

Am using my bike for past 4.5 years and I dint have any major problems till now. Pick up is the best and am getting a mileage of around 45kmpl purely under chennai city traffic.

If mileage is your main concern then i think unicorn is a better choice... Don't hope latest version szr may give a mileage that's on par with Unicorn.

One thing I heard is the v 2.0's peak torque is at 6000rpm. Mine is just 4500rpm. So engine may breath better at relatively more speed.

Please share your opinions if you test drive both the bikes.

After evaluating lots of reviews, finally got a black Yamaha sz-r in November 2012,things were pretty well till odo reading 25000. After which things started getting nasty :
1 . engine needed to be decarbonised
2.disc brake failed to work properly, got it repaired
                        3.rusting in certain areas.
                        4.mileage dropped to 30-35,which was previously 45+.

Although a well put together product by Yamaha, but failed to deliver when compared to my previous Yamaha rx 100.
                        Regards,
                        TUSHAR

Hi Dear, Thanks for your reply. I am ready to replace the faulty parts. But my confusion is, will this be resolved by replacing the disc alone ?. or it is a problem with other partss?

                          • Oil Leak From Yamaha SZ-R Engine

I am facing this issue with my Yamaha SZ-R 2011 model, Oil leak from engine where the clutch cable connects. Pls have a look at the attached photo. (It is not mine, I have taken this from google for easy understanding). I have consulted with 3 mechanics. all of them are saying that, the engine should be opened to replace the faulty seal/bush and it will cost around 3000. Is it true.? And they have advised me not to do anything now as it so not so serious. But I am very much confused as the the decreasing oil level will affect the engine life. (Leaked oil has spread near the gap of engine and starer motor).Kindly advice me on this dear experts...

In around 3000 you can get the block-piston replaced.the seal cost say 200+ labour charge say 500+engine oil 300=so the total cost must be around 1000.I advise you to go to ASC and get the bike checked

Thanks for your reply. But mechanics are saying that it's too hard to open and replace this particular seal. And one of the mechanic had applied some paste/glue to the leaking area. But I need to do the same after each water wash.

Almost all the ASC in Chennai are now with too much work load due to the vehicles affected by flood. Yamaha ASC told me to come after 2 months.
