I think better if you search this thread & engine oil thread for better understanding & your options regarding this.
Also fs oil needed when you cover a lot of kms in a short time, i.e long rides etc.
Otherwise ss/mineral oil is good enough for everyday to & fro riding in the city.

How about the second question....full synthetic oil...which one is advisable or should I continue with yamalube?
You can go for fully synthetic oil, is your bike is still under warranty? Did you take any extended warranty? If the answer of these 2 question is yes then I would suggest you to stick tpo the Yamaha recommended oil. If not then you can try Synthetic oil, make sure you have new oil filter with new oil.

Update from my bike (my brother in law rides my bike now):

Clutch cable snapped as I didnt change the clutch cable for 4 years. He changes the rear tyre to MRF ones, and he says that now bike is more stable and planted on road, roadgrip improved significantly and so does ride quality.

He would be getting the cerb cleaned before mansoon service.

PS: I miss my bike.

Thanks lalitp and curve_king...

Bike is almost 04 years old but other than some city driving not done much....But I plan to start with some short rides outside the city...500-600 kms rides. So I will switch to FS oil and lets see how the bike performs.

If this was posted in the help me section, i would suggest you to keep it there. This thread is not monitored by anyone. So no one bothers to answer even a genuine query.

• Re: Yamaha SZ-X / SZ-R

Hi everyone,

This could be a slightly different view because this isn't a first hand ownership experience. Also, my primary bike is a pulsar 150, so there will be comparisons. 😀

My original bike is a Pulsar 150cc 2009 edition. Nothing wrong with it. Kerala regd, stupid interstate laws, etc. meant that I needed another bike. So, I recently acquired a second hand Yamaha SZ X.

Engine:
This bike has run for more than 32000 km, but it still runs extremely smooth. It's a testament to Yamaha's quality that the bike runs so well after all this time. The bike seems to be getting smoother the more I ride it.

Torque:
Wow! I'm so used to a slow increase in power, that I get jerked back every time I increase the throttle. The torque is perfect for city driving.

Fuel gauge:
Oh my! Go down an incline, and the guage level increases, go up and it decreases [emoji13]
I fill up the tank as soon as it reaches mid level. I guess I'd be safe this way.
The calibration is off. The tank is supposed to hold 14 liters, but the gauge goes from E to F with just 7 liters.

Mileage:
Approximately 30 km/liter, but this is not as per the standard testing methodology.

Service:
I think the biggest problem with owning a Yamaha in Chennai, is the service center on OMR (Raj Yamaha). I don't have words to express the level of indifference and lack of professionalism I experienced. [emoji34]
An example: I got my bike back on the third day, and they hadn't even washed it. I asked them to clean it up and they told me there was no electricity. I pointed out that my bike was there for the past three days; and they said there was no electricity for the past three days. [emoji58]

Braking:
Drum brakes, meh. Not a problem so far. I did have a few close calls since I'm used to shorter braking distances, but I've adjusted.

Tyres:
I read in this thread that tubeless tyres are not recommended, but I had already replaced my back tyre with a Ceat Tubeless. No problems so far.

If you have any questions, let me know. I'll be glad to answer them.

robinparriath Could you give a basic comparison/review of the ceat tyre fitted & maybe even compare it to your p150's rear tyre in terms of plying on dry, wet & offroad/gravelly kind of roads.

curve_king, it's been just approx 1 month since I've changed the tyre, plus there hasn't been much rain in Chennai. So I'm not sure my review can be indicative of the tyre's general performance.

The tyre is Ceat Zoom XL. The fitters sanded the rim's insides to smoothen them before fitting the tyres. I was told that it was necessary to make sure the air didn't escape from gaps, and I can understand the logic.

Dry roads:
No slipping/skidding. I had faced this problem with my pulsar's zappers.

Gravel:
Quite good. It does have a noticeable lack in grip. SZ-X's drum brakes mean that the danger of tyres locking up is much lesser than in my Pulsar. Overall, it feels safer.

I changed to a 15t sprocket on my FZ. Used the stock one from the Unicorn Dazzler.. You can try that and should work I think.

Not a fit. The SZR drive shaft is slightly fatter than the unicorns and r15 2.0's by a few millimetres.

I thought the drive shafts for SzR and FZ would be similar and I've read that the engine blocks are essentially the same. I could be mistaken. When I went for my 15t change, my trusted mechanic specifically asked me to buy a stock sprocket of the Dazzler variant and not the original Unicorn classic one... The 'classic' variant's front sprocket too is not a direct fit on the FZ, but the Dazzler's is.

I had picked up a unicorn and an r15 2.0 15T sprocket which didn't fit my SZR but it was a perfect fit for my friend's Fzs
